Some comments from EJ Holland of 247 on the 2021s from this weekend --

Elite 2021 recruits — Texas played host to perhaps two of the Top 5 players in the state for next cycle in wide receiver Latrell Neville and athlete Shadrach Banks. Neville told me Texas is firmly in his early Top 3. Texas A&M, which was thought to be a favorite, is not in there. The Longhorns hold the clear in-state advantage, and Neville is friends with 2019 Texas signee Javonne Shepherd. I also like where Texas stands with Banks coming out of the visit. Out of all the recruits we saw today, none looked like they had as much fun as Banks. He was on campus with North Shore coach Theadis Reagins, who coached Texas players Al’vonte Woodard, D’shawn Jamison and Anthony Cook at Houston Lamar.

New 2021 offers — Texas also put offers on the table for 2021 wide receiver Cody Jackson and 2021 defensive end Ja’Tavion Sanders. The recruiting process is just getting started for Sanders, who has notched close to 15 offers over the last month. Sanders’ family loves the program, and Texas may be the early leader here. Oklahoma is the heavy favorite for Jackson. His former teammate is CeeDee Lamb and is making a big impact on him. But Mehringer has made him a priority for next cycle, and he has legitimate interest in Texas.

I hope this recruiting momentum continues because it is so much fun to see the Horns reeling in top talent. As Texas should.

Now that we have Mook in the fold, who was my #1 get, perhaps we can get my new number 1 Vernon Broughton(?). Man I am so greedy. But he is a very possible get. Just sayin.

Mookie is 2021? Why did I think he was 2020? Regardless, what about Zach Evans?

He's not in the fold until he signs. Commiting this early just gives any recruit that much more time to second guess his decision. Especially out of state guys.

We offered RB Camar Wheaton of Garland Lakeview Centennial. He is currently listed as the #1 RB nationally per 247
Ran a 4.37 at TCU camp last summer, and 10.6 100 meters in his freshman year in T&F
    Impressive freshman highlights

From Mike Roach (247) at the UA Dallas camp --

Fort Worth All Saints offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer belongs in the conversation with the elite offensive linemen in 2021. The Texas legacy showed up in great shape at 6-foot-6, 285 pounds, and he was undefeated in drill work during one-on-ones. Brockermeyer is quick and athletic, and he plays with great technical ability and motor.

More from Roach -- this time on 2021 OL Savion Byrd

Speaking of elite 2021 offensive linemen, Duncanville’s Savion Byrd entered the conversation with his performance today as well. Byrd looked like a chiseled monster at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, and he showed fantastic athleticism in one-on-one drills. Byrd’s quickness was tough to beat, and he showed some nastiness in his game at times. Byrd will be another prospect with his choice of elite schools once he reaches his senior season.

4-star 2021 OT Hayden Conner (6.5,298) of Katy Taylor has us in his top 3 (w/ Mich and Neb) Hayden Conner, Taylor, Offensive Tackle

And Rivals says we lead for 4-star 2021 OT Donovan Jackson (6'4,295) of Bellaire Episcopal Donovan Jackson, Episcopal, Offensive Tackle
“I like how honest they (Texas) are. Coach (Herb) Hand, the offensive line coach, you know what you’re gonna get with him. He doesn’t sugarcoat things and I appreciate that. Coach (Tom) Herman, when I talk to him, he says he’s looking forward to recruiting me the next two years, so I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

“My dad wants me to wait until after my junior year, and then it’s all up to me. I have an idea of what I want to do, but I’m still unsure. It changes every day.”

“Obviously, I’m looking at the education and the alumni system after, the connections where I can get a great job early, that definitely stands out to me. Texas, they have a great program for after football if you want to come back to get your master’s degree. They’ll help you out with that and I appreciate that.”

Joe, I'm still trying to get my eyes back into their sockets after watching his speed and moves on the film clip - really impressive. Hope he winds up in Burnt Orange.
