Horns open up their home schedule with four games against the Boilermakers starting Friday in series that will include a double header on Saturday. Purdue was a tournament team last year playing in Chapel Hill regional and going 1-2.

Here is preview from Purdue Sports:

The key stat in that preview is that those 3 Purdue pitchers last weekend held a top 25 team scoreless for over 70% of the innings they pitched. A key in the first 3 games will be to drive up the pitch count in order to get to the bullpen. A Purdue weakness is in their depth of pitchers.

Here's some fun before the game.

BTW: Purdue has updated their website removing the picture. They actually responded to the tweet.

Hitting with RISP is a problem in this game.

Blair Henley with another solid start as he goes 6 2/3 giving up just 4 earned runs and Horns lead 12-6 in the bottom of the seventh of game one today.

DH-Game 2...Zubia continuing his pattern of taking called 3rd strikes with RISP. I know he has some power, but he consistently fails to deliver in the clutch.

Horns are imploding in the ninth three errors and a couple of hits have them down 3-0 and only one out with another runner in scoring position. :brickwall:

A fourth run scores for Purdue and Texas goes meekly in ninth to lose 4-0. a great pitching outing by Horns is wasted as no offense and an imploding defense at end lead to loss. Need win tomorrow to take this series,

Purdue pitching was pretty damn good in the night cap. Congrats to them

Whelan is on mound for Horns to finish the series and Horns put a three spot on board in first inning and lead 3-0 after one inning.

    Through 2 and 1/2 still 3-0 Horns.

Horns make the three spot in the first stand up for the 3-0 win. The pitching staff was outstanding getting five scoreless innings from the starter Whelan, 3 scoreless innings from Fields and one scoreless from Quintanilla, who is fast becoming the shut down option for this team.

Texas is 6-2 heading into midweek games with SHSU Tuesday and UTSA Wednesday before hosting number one ranked LSU in huge series next week.:hookem:

Not a good trend considering who's coming to town. Hopefully Piece will use the mid week games to get the lineup figured out.

Not good - can't count on the rotation/bullpen to throw a shutout every game. Horns need to score some runs for the pitchers and ease the pressure.

Now 3 innings out of 27, which is an average on 1 inning per game.

And yet they have 13 runs over those same 27 innings, which is almost half a run every inning.
