Huge midweek matchup with the another top ten team as the Pigs come to town. Preview from Texassports: No. 9 Baseball preview: No. 11 Arkansas - University of Texas Athletics PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS TUESDAY—Texas Fr. RHP Jack Neely (0-0, 6.23) vs. Arkansas Fr. LHP Patrick Wicklander (2-1, 2.45) WEDNESDAY—Texas TBA vs. Arkansas TBA And a reminder for piggy, thanks for one of the all time bloopers:
Texas just made a basketball play-in game with two teams I care zero about more interesting than the game they are playing. And they did it in 3 innings. That takes talent.
Horns fell behind big early and this was never really a game, chance tonight to get split. Review from Texassports: No. 9 Baseball drops midweek contest to No. 11 Arkansas - University of Texas Athletics
This game is wearing me out with about 350 pitches so far, but I'm locked in. Horns fighting back to the lead in the 6th
Duke Ellis... Dude is fun to watch, safe or not. That was a shallow fly ball and he made it a bang bang play
3 up 3 down in the top of the 8th. Its just amazing what can happen when your pitcher throws strikes. 7-5 Horns bot 8. 3 outs to get.
FINAL: Texas wins 7-6 W: Tristan Stevens (2-1) L: Elijah Trest (0-1) S: Cole Quintanilla (4) With 36 walks, we should have won by 20 or more
Very scrappy win which seems to be our style. Still, hitting with RISP was total crap. ~17 free passes by Ark pitching we shoulda had more cushion at the end.
I like the concept of a midweek, two-game series against a tough opponent, but it seems like these sorts of match-ups should be scheduled before conference play begins.
Not a great thing of beauty, but nonetheless a W. Team needs to tighten up on fundamentals - there is potential there, but it won't go very far without the key ABCs of baseball - hitting, pitching, fielding.
I really wished Cole Q didn't come out for the 9th. He threw about 30 pitches to get 8 or 9 outs, would love to bring in Fields to close it out. Coach Pierce never asks me for my opinion.... Probably has good reasons for that..
Very important midweek win and split series. The Horns go 7-5 in 12 games against top ten opponents over last three and a half weeks (they went 4-8 last year against same 4 teams in regular season) which is impressive for a young team. Texas now sits at 16-8 having come through toughest part of schedule. But there is no rest as still looming is top 25 in some polls TCU this weekend in Fort Worth, mid week games with aggy and Rice and the rest of the Big XII schedule. Texas has positioned itself to have a strong case for regional host slot but the work isnt done and I know I keep saying it but with the wins they now have if they can win the Big XII avoid any more ugly losses like UTSA and put some win streaks together they have legit shot at a national seed. Game Two reviews: No. 9 Baseball wins 7-6 to split series with No. 11 Arkansas - University of Texas Athletics No. 9 Texas completes another comeback to beat No. 11 Arkansas, 7-6
Agree, but this is baseball where what should sometimes isn't. If Texas had not won this would have been a big deal. A series win against TCU on the road will be a nice cap to this brutal stretch of the schedule.
