Another reason to work even harder to at least finish over .500 at Texas so that he can have better options when/if he leaves.

Unless Texas makes one of the play-in games, it looks like the NIT is in our future.

No expert on the psychology of college athletes, but it can/t be good to play knowing that your coach could be fired at any time, especially after a bad loss. See: Texas football at Kansas and Charlie Strong.

No surprise there and frankly it would have been a travesty for them to have been put in the tournament. They will probably get a home game in the first round of the nit and about 500 people will show up.

Time to move on. A school with brand and resources like Texas should always make the tournament. Shaka is making no progress. CDC should go a different direction.

Am I alone in being glad they did NOT get selected for a play-in game? To get placed in one of those and then lose it would have done immeasurable amounts of damage to the program. At least the NIT games will be in front of a small audience, both live and on television...

It would have been good for promotion of program but with a .500 record and losses to teams that should have been wins, they got what they deserved. A few more wins combined with the wins over NC, Kansas, KSt, Ark, ISt and Purdue would have pushed them to NCAA with respect. All the NIT does is give them the potential of a few more practices / games. Understanding that Hayes is out, that may be a good thing since now the team esp underclassmen will see what they have without him as he most likely turns to NBA draft. IMO, he needs to stay around 2 more years. That would help him and the team climb up the ladder and be respected again. I would probably be inclined to play more young players for experience and maybe even if Hayes was not injured, I might be inclined to play with out him, in anticipation of his going NBA.

Seems a certainty that SS will be returning for another opportunity to showcase his coaching ability. Monetarily, he's all set without proving he was the right hire.

Back to the original question: What will it take Shaka to survive this year?

A: Shaka's discovery and possession of photos of CDC and half the Board of Regents in compromising positions----along with winning the No Interest Tournament (NIT).

They tried...blowing a 19 point lead when you run out to a 19-0 lead is simply inexcusable. They cannot afford to do that in any more games...and they need to hit both ends of the two-shot trips to the line. Granted, their inability to do so consistently meant I made money (took SDSU and the 8 points), but their next opponent will be keeping the game much closer...

There's also a College Insider Postseason Tournament, but it doesn't get much publicity. So, why not create another tournament where only the worst teams are invited and a team can only advance if they lose. The loser of the final game would be declared the worse team in college basketball and of course, receive an appropriate trophy. Hell! I'd watch. Could be quite comical!

Well, it appears that Kidd went to college for 2 years without completing his degree. See: Bill Bradley not considered as a football coach at UT for not having a degree.

Regarding his head coaching record Kidd has never coached college (of which recruiting is Job No. 1), but his NBA head coaching record:

    Brooklyn 2013–14 82 44 38 .537
    Milwaukee 2014–15 82 41 41 .500
    Milwaukee 2015–16 82 33 49 .402
    Milwaukee 2016–17 82 42 40 .512
    Milwaukee 2017–18 45 23 22 .511
    Career 373 183 190 .491

Don't forget that Kidd went to Berzerkley, the same (insert your own noun) that provided us with Fenves, who seems to make his own rationalizations and rules as he goes along.

Steve Owens was the AD at Oklahoma in the 1990's with no degree.

A period where they went through three AD's in the decade, three head football coaches in three years and four total in the decade, and two University Presidents.

Their efforts were finally paid off with Senator Boren (although they are swimming in an ocean of red ink and there are now multiple allegations of sexual misconduct by him; Bob Stoops who had no head coaching experience, but that seemed to work out; and Joe Castiglione that was a home run hire.

I miss OU in the 90's. Just sayin.......

OU isn't The University of Texas.

You are correct, but under Dr Boren OU was much better run and made far greater progress than our beloved University has done under Powers & Fenves.

I have no knowledge of sexual harassment or misconduct under Dr Boren, but I know that is a subject WE do not want brought up or discussed on this, or any University of Texas board.

My original point was about whether Kidd, perhaps, would be considered as HC at UT Austin, pointing out that Bill Bradley, somewhat adored by the Longhorn faithful, would not even be considered for head coaching at UT because he didn't finish his degree. And so comparing that to Kidd, whether he is or is not otherwise qualified or under consideration, would be struck off any list because of Kidd not having an undergraduate degree.

Whether OU hired someone in any position who didn't have an undergraduate degree and did a better job as compared to the UT equivalent misses the point that --- so, good for OU, and bad on UT for hiring underperformers.

But UT sets its criteria for hiring, apparently which includes the completion of an undergraduate degree at a minimum. If OU does not --- that's their prerogative and I don't even argue with that if that's what they chose to do.

But, I repeat, OU is not The University of Texas. For good or bad.

That's all I was posting about as it relates to any consideration of Kidd to be a HC at UT Austin.

What Beard is doing at Tech is impressive. It wouldn't shock me if hes interested after Techs season is over that hes offered the job no matter what Texas does in the NIT.

Won't happen because we won't fire Shaka. Then Beard will take a high profile job somewhere and we miss out. Then we go 16-16 again next year.

Hoping the frawgs crush us, forcing smart to be fired. Watching Tech pull this off and going to the final four makes me envious. Smart, hard nosed basketball, something I haven't seen from us in a VERY, VERY long time.
