I don't think I've ever seen a more incompetent and wimpy group of negotiators and political "leaders" in my life. By trying to extend the deadline, they are only delaying inevitable and look incredibly desperate and weak. By looking so weak, the EU has absolutely no reason to play ball with them at all.

They need to be willing to leave without a deal. If they aren't, the EU will just slap them around. It's really sad.

UK needs to leave without a deal and set up there border with Ireland as they see fit. Tell the EU to "come bite me" if they don't like it. That isn't the only sticking point but one of the ones I have read about.

The politicians over there are laughably gutless, and they're showing their gutlessness. At a time when they need a Churchill, they only have Chamberlains.

Like I've said previously, Brexit will have some losers. It won't be good for everybody. Furthermore, there will an adjustment for many. It won't be all fun and games. The UK leadership is very obviously afraid of any kind of disruption, so they're willing to get down on their knees and beg the EU to essentially let them leave while giving them all the advantages of remaining. The EU has every reason in the world not to do that and no reason to do that, especially if the UK is willing to grovel and beg.

The only way they're going to get any kind of a deal from the EU is if they are willing to leave without a deal and take their chances. It isn't as though the EU has nothing to lose. The UK is a big market and petty wealthy. However, the EU can basically act like they only stand to gain by the UK leaving, because they have the balls to at least act like they don't care if the UK leaves without a deal.

What they should do is negotiate but do so completely willing to walk. If they actually do have to walk, then so be it. When the inevitable losers of Brexit complain, simply shift the blame to the public. After all, they voted to leave. And then reassure them that the country will adjust and weather the storm. After all, they've face dramatically bigger challenges in recent history. Compared to the world wars, the worst Brexit scenarios are a cakewalk. They gain nothing by groveling.

I agree the UK leaders are showing no courage at all. If the main issues are economic. Make pro-market and trade changes. I think that is the whole problem though. The politicians agree with the high regulation, tariffs, and loose money stances of the EU. To make it work they will have to be more laissez faire and they don't want to do that.

The UK has ZERO leverage. The choice is either a soft or hard landing. Y'all appear to prefer a hard landing as non-citizens of the UK. My co-workers who live there are desperate for a soft landing or better yet a reversal of an narrowly won referendum the business community vehemently disagreed with.

I think some actually agree with EU policy. I think some are also getting pressured very hard by the business interests who will lose or at least be disrupted by Brexit. Those folks aren't used to not getting their way.

I think that's an overly simplistic view and a self-serving narrative - not from you but from the Remain side. The EU is at an advantage because of its size, but I don't think it's accurate to say the UK has no leverage at all. They are a massive and very wealthy market that buys a lot of EU goods and services - about £70B more than they sell. Juncker might talk like he doesn't give a crap if the UK leaves, and he has to. The last thing he can afford to do is encourage other Eurosceptic countries to follow the UK's lead, and of course, this problem is far bigger than the UK. Hostility to the EU is a substantial force in almost every EU country from every political circle - Left, Right, and be Center.

But companies like Bosch, Peugeot, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, etc. definitely do give a crap. This isn't like Malta leaving the EU. This is an economic, political, and military giant leaving the EU. Whether the EU lets on our not, they do care, and if they care, then the UK has some leverage. They don't have most of the leverage, but it isn't zero or close to zero.

Well, that is part of my point Deez. I am speculating but if the politicians promised to remake their tax and trade structure to be more business friendly, then they may pushback less. But that is a whole new paradigm for all involved.

Also read that trade with EU is trending down. It now stands at ~44% of all trade. So the UK does have leverage and it is growing.

France's EU minister reportedly named her cat Brexit, because he meows at the door that he want's to go out, but then just stands at the door without leaving.

And the can is about to get kicked down the road a little more. Looks like May wants until June 30. The EU is saying no later than May 22. Link.

Regardless of the date, I still don't see how anything changes in that time.

Lol. Even Juncker cracked up. Of course, he had also probably just downed half a bottle scotch.

If the mainstream parties are inept (the Tories), in disarray (the Tories and Lib Dems), or insane (Labour and Scottish National Party), other parties will at least try to fill the void.

Read that Nigel went off on the BBC. They kept asking him about things he said a couple of years ago. Then he quit even trying to answer their questions and just went off that the BBC doesn't really cover the news. That big changes were underway in Britain.

I would really like to see a renaissance of the old British self-sufficiency and sense of enterprise.

The BBC is the ultimate establishment media outlet in the UK. It isn't really a Left wing bias like the US political media has. It's a bias against anybody who doesn't fit neatly into the globalist Tory/Labour/LibDem framework. That means they despise a guy like Nigel Farage. This was the interview in question, and though Nigel goes off on this guy, this level of hostility is what he routinely gets.
