Why did I hear by at least three different radio guys that Northeastern not only would beat Kansas but likely make it to the sweet 16? Kansas is winning by 33 points and Northeastern looks like a high school basketball team. Don't ever trust the radio prognosticators. Every week I hear them make picks and only talk the next week about the ones they got right. If they guarantee the upset definitely pick the favorite. The madness is on!
The W-sips with all their 5* and 4* talent..oh wait...easily ship the Pirates 84-68. I think they are my second favorite post season team this year.
Last week during the NCAA selection show on CBS, one of the commentators prognosticated that we could see New Mexico State in the Sweet 16*. So much for that. Poor (NMSU) Aggys. *Yeah, and I'd like to see Texas Tech and UofH in the championship game.
Considering that Guy V's Phi Slamma Jamma team may have been the best men's college BB team to never win it all, finishing No. 2 in back to back years in the 80's, I'd pull for them. I know it's not Guy V's guys, and it's Kelvin Sampson and not Guy V, and it's UH, but at least some tradition of having a winning program in the past never to have won it.
Craziness...K-State gets beat by anteaters and those damned w-sips are still around. Oh, and Barnes is trying to choke again...although not near as bad as Virginia trying to lose to a 16-seed two years in a row...
If the scruffy mongrels of Wofford baseball team makes it to the College World Series this year I'll kill myself. Edit: Well, they went tits up against Kentucky, but was touch and go most of the game, still only lost by 6. Sooo, I guess I'm off suicide watch now. Unless they get to Omaha in a few weeks. Friggin' mangy curs. I hate them.
Interesting results as of Saturday evening for the Big 12 --- Baylor and OU were both 9 seeds, playing 8s, and winning. You know, the old 9/8, thanks a bunch, if we win we get the No. 1 regional seed next. Baylor now gets regional No. 1 Gonzaga tonight at 7:10. OU gets regional No. 1 Virginia tomorrow at 7:45. Winner of that gets winner of a 13/14 matchup. KU, a winner from the 4 seed, gets smarmy Bruce Pearl and 5 seed Auburn; KU may be going home soon. KSU, a 4 upset by 13 already packing for Manhattan. Then there's Tceh, 3 seed winner gets Buffalo tomorrow, if a winner, probably next up is Meatchicken, if winner probably Gonzaga. I think Tceh could do this.
The Big XII could easily have no team in the sweet 16 with Tech being the likely lone survivor into that round. Terrible year in the conference and the best Shaka could do is 8-10 and the NIT? Oh that's right, his senior leader was unfairly suspended for allegedly failing a 3rd drug test. Poor Shaka
Baylor, Kansas had double digit losses, KSU was gone in the first round losing to a #13. I don't give OU much hope against Virginia; however, this is Madness so anything can happen. Tech might make the sweet 16 but no guarantee. Buffalo was pretty strong and slaughtered ASU. Pretty pathetic showing by B12 reps so far, but that's what I thought would happen, with the exception being Tech.
Though the Jayhawks cut the slaughter to a final margin loss of 14 Auburn had already opened up a quart can of whoopass early, leading 51-25 at half. Damn.
Looks like the Big 12 is not exactly lighting it up. But Tech has a chance to get to the Sweet 16 as does OU.
OU is not a good team. I give them a 25% chance of losing by less than 10. Tech is taking it to Buffalo early in the game 17-6.
Buffalo has cut the lead to 24-22 with 3:48 left in the half. Duke is having a hard time with UCF leading 51-50 with 13 minutes left.
Tech leading 33-25 at the hal. Duke tied with USF at 57 with 9:54 left. Good game as USF looks huge compared to Duke. Lots of big guys on the floor playing very well.
Cougs are going to the Sweet 16. A convincing win over tOSU. And Wilford Brimley in the audience sporting an enormous mustache and cowboy hat.
What a boring tournament. Except for 5 seed Auburn and 12 seed Oregon all four regions have only the top 4 seeds left. I guess Oregon is our Cinderella?
Tennessee was extremely fortunate to survive...20+ point lead going to the half and they barely get by the second round, having to go to OT. Some things never change with Rick...and sadly, that trait seems to still be present with his previous school.
ESPN spending lots of time on a team that didn't make the final four: "The biggest story in college basketball since November, Duke fell short of the Final Four." Takeaways from Duke's season-ending loss to Michigan State
Remarkable stat - Tom Izzo has had 24 recruiting classes at Michigan State. 23 of them have gone to the Final Four if we assume they stayed all four years. 1999 2000 2001 2005 2009 2010 2015 2019
