The Horns travel to Fort Worth for huge Big XII road series this weekend. All three games are on tv either FSSW or ESPNU. Preview from Texassports: No. 9 Baseball preview: No. 22 TCU - University of Texas Athletics PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS: FRIDAY—Texas So. RHP Bryce Elder (2-1, 2.22) vs. TCU Jr. LHP Nick Lodolo (3-2, 1.36) SATURDAY—Texas Jr. RHP Blair Henley (2-1, 4.23) vs. TCU Jr. RHP Jake Eissler (3-1, 6.04) SUNDAY—Texas Fr. RHP Coy Cobb (0-2, 3.54) vs. TCU Jr. LHP Brandon Williamson (2-1, 2.61)
Friday and Saturday pitchers appear to be about equal, but Texas has played a tougher schedule. TCU's Sunday's pitcher appears to be a bit better than Texas'.
Really would be great to win at least two of the three - would give the Horns a big leg up in the conference race.
Well........that sucked. Horns blow a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth as Pierce stays one batter too many with Elder and then Fields just implodes and TCU wins 3-2.
When I saw Elder come out to start the 9th I thought it was a mistake of heart over head by Pierce. But Fields still should have come out and shut the door. He just gagged that one. I was thinking he would bring in Quintanilla, but I'm guessing he wanted to give him a rest since he came in and pitched against Arky.
I cant understand leaving Fields in there to blow the whole thing like that. Nothing pisses me off more than a pitcher coming out of the bullpen and cant throw strikes.
Review from Texassports No. 9 Texas Baseball loses late to No. 22 TCU - University of Texas Athletics
We're struggling at catcher also. Balls in dirt not blocked. We have totally failed at recruiting at catcher: Our JUCO catcher is out with shoulder surgery Our #2 catcher failed to make team 2x, but is the best available now #3 catcher is a freshman walk-on. Has shown some power at the plate. We did sign 3 catchers in November for 2020: The catchers include Silas Ardoin (Sam Houston HS/Lake Charles, La.), Cameron Constantine (McKinney North HS/McKinney, Texas), and Peyton Powell (Robinson HS/Robinson, Texas). Hopefully at least 2 will make it to campus.
Well, if there was any question about whether the Horns would bounce back they seem to be answering them pretty strongly as they are up 12-1 in the sixth tonight. One thing about Pierce teams that has become clear these first three seasons they don't panic and they don't dwell on losses.
Nice to see the offense produce. Hope the Horns can wrap this one up and win tomorrow - 2-1 on the road against a ranked team isn't a bad thing.
