Agreed! I think the key thing is that she's got confidence that Mike White believes in her hitting.

Well the Horns dropped a second straight as Elish gave up 2 home runs and was pulled for O'Leary one inning too late, who then got pulled for Bollinger [by that time, ASU was leading 9-4 on a 5-run inning] who put the brakes on the scoring.

Bummer. But to put it in perspective, the Longhorns currently stand at 16-3 where at the same 19-game point they were sitting with a 9-10 record.

    Comparative stat after today's game:

Think Schattle should’ve been PHed in that ASU game.

    1. I was yelling at the TV "Not Schattle! Not right now!"
    2. For some reason, White thought that Schattle was a better option at SS and at hitting then Slack. Hrrumph!

[hitting into a double-play with bases loaded......grumble, grumble, grumble]

Another 5-inning run-rule W and my girl, Bekah, continues to rake: 2-3, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, HR. Unbelievable turnaround from her. If softball had the Gaskamp, she'd have already claimed it...

Double run rule night plus a no-hitter thrown in for good measure.

And today marked the 9th and 10th run-ruled games of the year. Comparison, we had 5 for all of last year. Great run support for the pitchers, easing the pressure on them knowing they're going into an inning with lots of runs in their back pocket. Today's comparison, strike-outs:

Weekend invitational starting today. One negative trend for this year's team, compared to last year is the growing number of errors. Some are just "what are you doing?" types

MW is going to have to find an answer at 3B and SS. No offensive power there and weak defensive plays.

This Minnesota game will show only 1 error. But there were several others.

    200% agree with you!

Ugh! I can't believe junior players are playing so poorly. The infield, except Jefferson is playing horrendous.

So, we overwhelm the teams we're supposed to beat, the 11th run-rule of the year. And then our bats fall deadly silent when we match up against a quality opponent. So, I guess we put off the talk about hosting a super-regional for now.

Ironically, today's chart is the number of hits. [Geez, Elish had to pitch and hit and steal (twice!) for the whole team today!]

Absolutely. MW has to find an answer at SS. Just a routine catch and at least the game goes to extra innings. I've played rec ball with 1 girl that played div III ball and others who couldn't sniff a college team and they all made plays much tougher than that. It was ridiculous to be called a hit.

Bad night for both ball teams. Ugh!

Great double-header today for the Horns. Quick thoughts:

Texas Southern - O'Leary having to work full 7 innings was huffing near the end, but gutted it out to make it. Lucky hits and slow fielding led to 2 runs at the top of the 7th. I guess the team thought it would be an easy game.

Minny - When they went up by 1 and the team seemed to be hitting the easy pop-ups or simple grounders to infield, I thought it was going to be another futile batting game. But the explosion in the 4th was impressive.

And looks like someone now has competition for their starting job at SS.

Poor hitting when we had runners on base led to the loss in the rubber match with Minnesota, 3-1. Horns drop to 21-5.

I sure like Parker at SS over Slack. She makes good contact with the ball and her fielding has been solid so far. I also like the fact that MW made an immediate change after Slack missed that pop fly which lost the game for us. He doesn't mind if some feeling get hurt if he can make the team better.

I didnt mine the change to Parker at SS but I totally disagree that Slack lost the game. There is no guarantee we win even if she makes that play. I personally felt so bad for her as soon as she missed it. I hope she heard no one say that she lost game. If we dont hit better with runners in scoring position we will not win many games..period.

Today's mid-week game featured the 4-20 A&M Islanders. It seemed to be an attempt to boost Elish's confidence as she's on record for 3 straight losses. She was good the first inning and struggled with her pitch the second inning. She got back on track in the 3rd and 4th inning. Still, seems to be struggling with her confidence.

    Today's cumulative stat comparison:

In the post-congrat line, several ex-Duck players and coaches took time to stop and hug the head coach of the Islanders. Research shows he was a former assistant at Oregon from 2010-2013.

"They were who we thought they were", Dennis Green.

So we beat up on an average opponent, and struggle against a solid opponent and split BYU and Tennessee.

The base running was......ahhhh....aggressive, to say the least. I've never seen Texas get tagged out on so many rundowns in the same game.

And ironically, today's cumulative stat is......

Off for spring break, so stats will be delayed by a few games.

Aggressive base running in non-conference games is ok I guess. Need to put Conference foes on notice that you will run anytime. Just something else they have to prepare for which takes-up valuable practice time.

I guess nobody watched the game against Iowa State today. Horn's run-ruled the Cyclones in fine fashion. Elish threw a no-hitter (1 BB away from a perfect game) and ended the game with a grand slam. If Mike White is the kind of coach CDC can bring in, I can't wait to see who's next...

Me and the family watched/listened to inning 2/3 of the game on my phone while inching our way through gridlocked traffic on Kauai!

    Heard the First 3 runs

Now the Horns are 29-6 and who would have thought our team would be this good now, a year ago?

Interesting data point is that we're starting to issue as many walks as last year's team. Maybe there's more game tape for our opponents to study?

Second, the number of errors have started flattening out. Maybe it's making the Rhodes/Parker combination permanent and the growing number of run-rule games? (fewer innings in which to commit an error)

O'Leary with the first perfect game (by a single pitcher) since Luna in 2011.
I was slightly annoyed that the Baylor-Vision hosts only noted it as a "no hitter" and didn't mention a peep that it was a perfect game.
Oh well, broke a 5 game losing streak to the Bears.

Looks like the Paper Longhorns showed up to Stillwater this weekend. First game, okay....pitcher's duel. But second game, the infield totally let down their pitchers - who were mentally psyched out!

Gotta love a pitcher who strikes out 11 and can hit a home run to help her own cause. Yeah, losing the series to OSU sucks, but getting swept would have been much worse.
