I will be shocked and pleasantly surprised if they win more than 70.

Agree. I am expecting somewhere between 65 and 75 wins. It all depends when the pitching (starting and BP) crashes. I picked at least 100 losses last season but little did I know some the competition would be tanking in excess of the Rangers.

Darvish with six walks and five K’s through two innings tonight. He didn’t get through three innings. Even with Darvish struggling, the Rangers trail early and any chance they might be .500 at any point this season appears to be heading out the door.

Update: Gallo with a huge bomb to dead center in the bottom of the 8th caps off comeback and Rangers lead 8-6, can the bullpen pick up its first save of year.

Don't give up hope just yet. Leading 8-6 in bottom of eighth, the Rangers need to see if Leclerc can nail down the save - that would get them to .500 for the season. Enjoy it - this might be the only time they see .500 this year. :smile1:

Rangers win on walk off wild pitch 11-10 to move to 2-1 and their magic number stands at 157.

If we can just have former Rangers on mound for other team every game the rest of the year I like the Rangers chances.:texasflag:

Two in a row - guess that qualifies as a "winning streak!"

Ride it for as long as they can. I fear an ugly crash as Texas would be 0-3 if the Cubs had a bullpen. Houston at 1-3 will be an interesting series this week.

My gosh - the Rangers won 6-4 and they're now above .500! Who would have thunk it!

Mike Minor with the kind of performance you expect from your “ace” and Rangers win 4-0 and take series from Houston. Only six games in but they are two games over .500 and I wouldn’t have taken the odds on that happening at any point this season.:texasflag:

Rangers up 9-2 in Anaheim, going to bottom of the sixth. One of you other Ranger zealots will have to take over cheering for the rest of the game - I've got to drive from Arlington to Aledo tomorrow morning for an early tee time. Retirement is rough work! :smile1:

Nice start to season, but I keep telling myself to wait 30-40, even 50 games in and see where they are before I get too excited or invested. Every team has good runs and the fact that rangers are having one to start season doesn't change all of the inherent flaws on this team. If May 31 rolls around and they are still over .500 then I will start letting myself get excited about this team.

Seattle somehow threatening to run away with the AL West. They will unless Houston can get their pitching back on track.

Totally understand, but there are a few bright spots that warrant real optimism. Joey Gallo has as many walks as strikeouts and a .447 OBP. That's huge. Elvis also looks great, as do some of our relief pitchers.

The rotation? Well, we won't talk about that. Lol.

Rangers with nice Sunday comeback after trailing 7-2 to win 8-7, somewhat makes up for blown 6-1 lead Friday night. They sit at 7-7 through 14 games and the early signs at least say maybe my "no way they win 70" prediction could get challenged, if they play the way they have these first three weeks of the season I can see them topping 70 maybe even approaching 75 wins. Of course that is a big "IF" to be hanging my hat on 14 games into a 162 game schedule.

There are enough mediocre starters in the league that they could bash their way to 70 wins if their own pitching improves. I don't see a team with a 5.44 ERA winning 70 games.

Good point, Mr. Deez. I'm not sure the rotation has a lot of room to improve, but it would help a bunch if they can just stay healthy. I don't want to see JD have to reach into the farm system to bring up a starter who's not major-league-ready - too much risk of ruining him for the future.

And it would also help a lot if the position players can stay healthy (Odor and Guzman currently on the DL).

Rangers are last in the West but would be second in the East.

Pitching is bad and already down one starter. I cannot see where any improvement will come from since the Rangers really don't have any trade bait and are not going to spend any money to get better.

Same olé Gallo. To many K's with runners ISP, and the shift still causing head issues. However while he has had some interesting plays in LF, he actually looks better in CF. If he could just get his batting average up 75 to 100 points (currently .171). He appears to be one of those guys whose analytical measurables do not translate to on the field success (he just does not pass the old fashion eye test).

Nice win last night to get over .500 again. Its a couple of years away but there are some interesting pitching prospects playing down in A ball right now:

Stellar work by A ball starters tonight

Minor threw a complete game - 3-hit shutout. Some nice help from the defense (Andrus started a highlight-film DP). Gallo hit another bomb to the popcorn stand behind the seats in the lower bleachers in right. 5-0 for the Good Guys against the Angels.

Nice to see Minor throw well - and nice to see the manager let him complete the game. He is pitching well - hope he stays healthy!

Minor was what he is paid for and finally delivered. Usual Gallo night - one bomb and one K with runners in scoring position. Rangers staying around .500 which seems to be the ceiling for now. If they could get into the AL East teams now instead of the mid-end of the season, they might be able to move the ceiling up a little.

Rangers win 5-4 tonight. Not a thing of beauty by Leclerc, but he got it done in the ninth. That completes the sweep of the Angels. Day off Thursday, then Houston is in for the weekend - sure would be nice to take 2 of 3 from the Astros.

The game was closer than it should have been as the Texas 3, 4 and 5 hitters were a combined 1 for 11 with one walk (3 K's by Gallo in his first 3 at bats). Leclerc has the "stuff", but it is madding to see him at times either unable to hit the strike zone or keep the ball away from the batter. Uncomfortable with the catcher? Sounds like over thinking.

Already seeing rumblings that Rangers are looking to move Minor and Leclerc to vet prospects. Even a better than expected start is not impacting the dump everything and start over philosophy for this season.

JD will have to be very careful if he uses this approach. Seems like the front office has been pointing to a competitive team to open the new stadium in 2020. The only valid reason to trade Minor and/or Leclerc would be to get multiple major-league-ready pitching prospects - and the teams that have such prospects would not want to trade them if they're "major-league-ready."

If JD trades them for the next level of available pitching prospects, it would effectively give up on 2020 - and I'm not sure the fan base would want to buy in on that approach.

My opinion - I think the Rangers ride this team out, at least until the All-Star break, to see what happens. If the team is a bit better than middle-of-the-pack, that would argue for extending Minor and Leclerc, not trading them.

Agree. Also agree with FW's still 70+ loss season. JD is going to have to pill a couple of rabbits out of whatever hat he wears or the attendance in the second half of 2020 is going to be bad which will be the end of JD.

Rangers jump out to a 10-1 lead on the Astros and then hang on by skin of their teeth to win 11-10 when they get a K from Kelley of Chirinos with the bases loaded to win the rubber game and take their second series of year from a red hot Houston team. Rangers are 12-8 through 20 games and you had to figure there would be some 20 game set where they won 12 of 20 this season so cant get too excited that it happened to come at start of year and not some random period in July or August. Still its fun to see Texas at 12-8 and having taken 4 of 6 from best team in baseball. Giving me a reason to keep checking in and keep paying attention.:texasflag:
