Went by the NWS website and searched on Lawrence, KS for 7-day forecast; looks fairly safe for Fri/Sat/Sun with a 10% chance of precip off and on Sat and Sun, but the stuff wetting Texas and Oklahoma doesn't reach up into Kansas.

&*^$ Gnocchi gives up 2 HR's in the bottom of the 9th giving Canzez the walkoff. The season can't end fast enough, this team is cursed.

Kicked in the teeth again in the 9th, this time by freaking Kansas. I feel kinda like I did after Charlie Strong's final Texas game in Lawrence.

I tried to remind everyone that Kansas took 2 of 3 from the same OSU team that kicked our teeth in. We might only win 2 or 3 more games this year.

I guess I didn't read far enough down the schedule so I didn't realize Murchison Middle School was on it.

Remembering the New Orleans Saints fans who started wearing paper bags over their heads and or bodies so that if they were shown on TV, no one could recognize them. They still showed up and cheered for their team, they were just too embarrassed about it to let the whole world know.

But you didn't tell us it was going to happen with two home runs in the bottom of the 9th. If I'd have known that, I would have already checked out of this season, and not tortured myself.

Two home runs on 2-strike counts. Unbelievable. And unacceptable.

Isn't that basically the way we lose almost every game? It seems like 80% of our late season losses are giving up a lead in the 8th or 9th innings. Whether by home runs, hits or errors is just semantics. This really sucks.

If I were a starting pitcher, I would flat-out refuse to come out of the game.

Only took an hour an 48 minutes to drop Game 2 to the Chickenhawks (by a score of 1-0). I think even the players just want the games and season to end quickly now.

This teams number 1 problem is lack of hitting though. Something isn’t right with the confidence,

Pierce has lost the team. No senior leadership and only two starters and no bullpen haven't helped, but it all falls back on the coach. I hope he has a plan for next season.

Since the Xavier series sweep this team just seems lost and has gone 5-13. Viper is right Pierce better have a plan and I suspect he does.

If want to punish yourself here is recap of yesterday, Henley continues to have an outstanding season that is just being wasted.

Hitting has been a problem for years, both with Augie and with Pierce. But at least with Augie, the pitching was so good that if we could scratch out one or two runs, we had a very, very good chance of winning. That’s not the case this year. Both the hitting and pitching have gone south.

I don't get it: hitting and fielding are usually inverse relationships, you give up some defense when you choose players with better hitting.

We are currently 7th in the Big 12 in field percentage at .966 vs. #1 Baylor at .979. Baylor is #1 in Batting with an average of .317 and an OBP .401 vs. our average of .247 and an OBP of .355. Of course the loss of Hamilton and Petrinsky adversely affected our fielding, but it is hard to compete with teams with 6-7 player hitting better than .300.

I totally agree with Texanne that at least with Augie and Skip, the pitching and defense were so good that "if we could scratch out one or two runs, we had a very, very good chance of winning.”

I see we signed 3 catchers and 4 LHP for next year to address near total recruiting failures at these key positions the last 2 years. No one expects Brett Baty to ever play any college baseball and I looked at the other recruits we signed last November and I don’t see any cure for our hitting woes.

If David Hamilton signs, who is going to play SS? Hibbeler is out of eligibility. Bryce Reagan has range and arm, but was too inconsistent on fairly routine plays. Maybe he has a great summer and comes back with enough confidence to do the job. I didn’t see anyone else mentioned as being able to play SS, but if I missed someone, please inform me.

I can see everyone is so anxious about today's game so I'll update 8-6 Kansas coming to the 9th inning. We're about to be swept by Kansas. I don't even know why I look anymore.

This especially sucks because we are arguably as much of a baseball school as we are a football school.

    Number of trips to CWS

The first 65 years of SWC, we won or shared all but 10 Championships

Of four HCs before Pierce, two were the winningest all time in NCAA.

Texas is one of few schools where baseball pays its own way

Total season ticket holders and game attendance

We are the team everyone else wants to beat

Other than those, maybe we should work on our spike ball program

I'll add we have the most victories of any major program. Fordham has more, but has been playing since 1859. They may have played the very first college baseball game in 1859. I feel like the Round Rock Express has damaged the attendance at UT games (and some attention otherwise).

Texas is 25-25. I checked Augie's first couple of years after taking over for Gus, and they weren't stellar. 4th season CWS but 2 and Q. Then he started rolling and Texas was a force to be reckoned with until early 2010s, then there were some dismal seasons. For all the David Pierce faithful out there, do you see another CWS appearance next year? And the next? If so, I'll be quiet then but I think it's pie-in-the-sky to think Texas found it's best coach on a nation-wide search that went all the way to New Orleans. To me, this hire is similar to Charlie Strong and Shaka Smart. Did Coach Pierce make it to the CWS only because of Augie's players? It's starting to smell like that. My first time noticing Texas was the 1983 team that won the CWS when they beat Alabama. I've taken pride in Texas baseball's dominance since then (except for the lean years of course). Is this a new era in college baseball where no one dominates so my expectations are too high? I wanted Virginia/Vanderbilt/UCLA's coach to at least be interviewed. I guess our baseball team has the same or less priority than our NIT champion/69th best team basketball squad...

The CWS has been played continuously since 1947. The CWS consists of the 8 teams that win their regional play --- so equivalent to basketball's Elite Eight and football's previous traditional New Year's Day bowls of Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Cotton (8 teams). And with the 3rd and 4th championships (1949, 1950), Texas was there from the start, and has continued with titles in the 70s (1975), 80s (1983), the 00s (2002, 2005), titles under coaching of only 3 coaches, Bibb, Gus, and Augie. BUT, under 3 different coaches over a span of 7 decades.

Last year was the 72nd year of the CWS. Texas returned to CWS play last year --- it's 36th year --- on average Texas baseball has been an "Elite Eight" or "New Year's Day bowl" team EVERY OTHER YEAR for 72 years. No one comes close --- USC is better because of Dedeaux's amazing run of titles, but take him out, and other numbers as noted above, appearances, CWS games won, etc., Texas outpaces every other program.

To put Texas' baseball success in context with the other 2 of the Big 3 college sports, to restate, Texas baseball has been on average at worst every other year an "Elite Eight" or "New Year's Day Bowl Game" team over the 72 years of the championship history of the sport. I don't think in football Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan, tOSU, USC or OU can claim that they have averaged every other year making a "New Year's Day Bowl Game", nor can UK, KU, UNC, or UCLA claim to have been an "Elite Eight" team on average every other year.

College baseball only started getting TV coverage in the past 10 years or so IIRC, as compared to football, so support has been mostly with butts in the stands.
