I don't think Michael Sam faced NFL discrimination because of his sexual orientation.

NFL talent evaluators are notoriously discriminatory towards edge rushers with:
    - 4.91 40 times
-17 reps of 220 bench (cornerback like performance)
-25 inch vertical (bad even for a nose tackle and betrayed innate lack of elite explosiveness.)

Add to that that Sam was 3-4 inches shorter than your typical edge rusher and lacked the frame to bulk up and move inside. Sam faced discrimination for lacking elite size and athleticism. I faced the same kind of discrimination.. in the 9th grade.

Sam was correctly evaluated as a marginal prospect, drafted in the later rounds and was cut after better athletes outperformed him in training camp.

I'm just saying that I believe there is only one race, and that is the human race. In this country where we've always had a diverse population, millions of us share DNA with people of color. All colors and all ethnic groups. Check the 23 and me DNA data and you will see that no matter your skin color you're likely to have a mixture of European and African, or Asian, native American etc. ancestry.

And the documents that ask for "race" are disappearing. Most, but not all, of those documents were developed and used for ill purposes. Often to discriminate against folks of color.

Regarding Andrew Beck and Carson Meier. Both are strong blockers , can catch, tough, --bet they make it to a NFL roster. Beck may become the new Gronk under Belichecks system.

    To paraphrase the Bentsen quote:
"Mr. tight end, I watched Gronk. I knew Gronk. Gronk was a friend of mine. Beck, you're no Gronk."

They're picking him up to be the third TE... if that. More likely, he'll be a special teams guy who reliably can play coverage or block. They already have Seferian-Jenkins and they picked up Anderson from the Texans. If he can supplant either of them, it would have to be on his blocking prowess alone. He doesn't have near the size or speed to be considered a downfield threat, but not many TEs do.

I think Davante Davis is the FA pickup who's most likely to turn some heads at Seattle's training camp. He's big, and although his 40 time isn't stellar, he's exactly the kind of DB that GMs look for in a nickel/dime situation. If he doesn't make Seattle's roster, I wouldn't be surprised if a team with injuries at corner picks him up and he plays a bunch in 2019.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

It depends on the vintage of Tiger. Back when he was on top of his game and appeared to be the greatest golfer of all time, he was widely hailed as an African American. Since his fall, his race is in question. Since he allowed Trump to honor him, I'm certain that he no longer qualifies as AA.

I suspect Tiger, not the surrounding culture, but Tiger himself, identified as a mixed race person with clear ties to the African American community, his Thai ancestry, and the broad American European culture (which I strongly suspect he has DNA ties to through his father, Earl Woods) in which he was raised and interfaced with every day.

Tiger once used the term Cablanasian to describe himself. I think it is a mash-up of Caucasian, Black, and Asian.

From the book, The Undefeated: Tiger Woods coined a phrase to describe his ethnicity: “Cablinasian.” It is a term that describes his full racial identity: Caucasian, black, Native Amerian and Asian. Woods’ late father, Earl Woods, was African-American, Chinese and Native American. Woods’ mother, Kultida Woods, is Thai, Chinese and Dutch.

Belicheck can turn anyone into a star. He has a system, his particular players and if you make the team he'll make you real good. Where would Edelman be without Belichek? Or even Tom Brady?

By the way I'm a German American with a dash of Irish.

Belichick is a master at finding rare skills players have and maximizing those skills. With Edelman it was his quickness.

It was described to me that he hand picks players that will fit his system. If you get picked by him there are good reasons. Edelman, Welker etc... was invented by Belicheck. Edelman anywhere else is not in the NFL.

I think he finds those skills then modifies his system(s) around the players. I'd agree that those same players typically aren't as effective in other organizations.

A lot of people are saying that Justyn Ross is going to test the 3-and-done rule for the NFL, and if they won't bite like with the Clarett/Mike Williams situation, he'll quit and go XFL for a season before entering the draft in 2021.
