Clean, sounds to me like the Iraqi Christians should arm themselves. Maybe they and the Kurds could carve out a bi-national state for themselves.

Obviously all are theoretical at this point but one of the things I learned as an instructor is to never make absolute statements (like I just did here), someone almost always finds a situation that makes it incorrect.

 

Yep, it should be a sizable piece of the puzzle, along w gas, nuclear, coal, wind, and whatever else works. The irony w both nuclear and hydro is they emit next to no pollution, yet many* of the self styled environmentalists still oppose them.


* I know one particular very, very smart guy who is a strongly left-leaning liberal environmentalist who strongly favors nuclear and hydro. He's a full blown believer in man made global warming. His take--whatever damage might be done by nuclear and hydro is immensely outweighed by the harm of using fossil fuels instead. I told him he should peach to his choir more often on this...

 

And as a Texan I have deep concerns over what any abrupt move away from oil and gas would do to this state. Hint--economic devastation over large swaths of the state that would resemble the depression.

Does anybody outside the oil patch give a damn? They sure didn't during the last major oil bust of the mid and late 80's to early 90's. If you lived through that in Texas, you know what I mean. What the enviro extremists have in mind would be much worse. Sure, our state economy is a lot more diversified now, but an abrupt move away from oil and gas would still be devastating.

Ah yes, back to the topic at hand--Christian persecution: many churches in this state would lose lots of their funds and parishioners if this happened. So there's that...

 

An abrupt move away from oil and gas by the US would rattle the world economy, not just Texas. A huge number of consumer and industrial goods in the construction, agricultural, automotive, medical, and many other industries are made from petroleum and petrochemicals. Even aluminum is made with carbon electrodes made from calcined petroleum coke. If the source of inexpensive raw materials to make thousands of chemicals and plastics dried up, there would be shortages and the price of everything would go up. Spare parts would be non-existent for a long time. And transportation? It would only be for the rich. It would be an economic catastrophe.

 

Good points. Plus, if you think much of the Middle East is crazy now?!?!? No telling what starving zealots with weapons might do...

An abrupt global shift away from petroleum would plunge the Middle East off the cliff.

 

Of course the hard core radical environmentalists would be just fine if a billion people in OPEC countries starved to death. As anti-human folks, they would see that as a great first step.

None other than Al Gore said that if he had a wish he would come back as a virus that would kill some 90% + of the humans on the planet, and thereby "save" the planet. I'm a human. Makes me really want to vote for that guy.

You are one of the few people I have ever heard express that sentiment, but it is true. The only true "solution" to the problems the radical enviro-whackos complain about is a significant, and I mean seriously significant, reduction in the human population. Deforestation? Ozone? Carbon emissions? (There are many others, but you get the picture.) All are addressed directly by the removal of multiple billions of human beings, who by the simple fact of being alive and wishing to remain that way exacerbate every issue the enviro-whackos constantly mewl about. And yet not a one of them has the balls to face this simple truth and advocate the logical conclusion of their philosophy.

I could respect an enviro-whacko who chose to make an example of him/herself and either committed suicide to "save the planet" or at least sterilized him/herself. At least they would be practicing what they preach to some degree.

 

I have been heavily victimized by environmental activists. I’ll write a book about it someday. The Environmental Activists on the left are corrupt. The Al Gore’s of that movement are flat out anti-human. Elon Musk is another like that. I created 40 jobs and watched activists wipe it all out. They use minorities for their movement and then trash them financially. Trump is slowly waking them up. He’ll win the black vote in 2020. Wait and see!

If the GOP starts winning minority votes, the environmental movement will be badly weakened. They don’t have activists in River Oaks, or Beverly Hills. Their in Compton, El Segundo, Port Arthur, Cancer Alley along the Mississippi River.

He's not going to win the black vote or even come close. It wouldn't surprise me if he does better with blacks than the GOP generally does. White liberals are now to the Left of blacks. Link. That suggests that the woke nuttiness of many Democrats is wearing thin with blacks.

However, that only helps Trump if he gains more black votes than he loses white, suburban votes. Unfortunately, he's doing what he can to alienate them.

 

The greatest blasphemy to these folks comes from Genesis where God gave dominion over nature and the animals to man. They really hate that verse. To them, nature itself is their "god". They are twisted neo-pagans. Of course the druids performed child and other human sacrifices. Coming around full circle if these jerkoffs ever take control.

My personal observations--only around 10% of this sort of character would even stand a chance at surviving by living off the land without modern machinery or equipment. It's real easy to attack modern industrial society while sipping your latte in an air conditioned room after downing the prescription medicine keeping you alive.

A double WTF on this development. Usually it's the Hindus and Muslims duking it out in Inida. Now they're attacking the Christians, who almost never do a terrorist act.

What business is it of a Hindu if an individual person wants to adhere to a different religion. Multiple Hindus I know have said something to the effect that: 'if you're a good Christian, you're a good Hindu', 'if you're a good Muslim, you're a good Hindu', etc. And lots of American Hindus have added Jesus to the gamut of gods that they pray to (not saying that sort of religion-blending is ok, but that's what's happening). But that sort of thinking doesn't seem to reach these violent mobs.

I do know that the Northeast of India has many millions of Christians, as does Kerala and Goa in the Southwest. I think the Kerala Christians claim a lineage that goes back to St. Thomas (doubting Thomas) who reportedly evangelized the area. Ask one of them (Kerala/Malayalam-speaking Christian Indians)--there's lots and lots of them at UT.

Agree Chop, one would think after all the senseless deaths and incredible cruelty, countless writings about it we would shun war, but nooooo it still rages on in the year 2023!

 

This seems dumber than the run-of-the-mill war for land, resources, enforcing treaties, etc. Here, it's "You turned away from my religion to some other religion; therefore I will kill you!" "And, oh yeah, my deity will reward me for killing you!"

Sounds like some of these guys are not very confident in their own beliefs...

...and that may be at the innermost root of all this sort of thing.
