I know I know, this has been discussed a lot, and I know there are a few other various satellite threads. That said...

I have Dish now, not real happy with not, but not horrible. Signal goes out constantly no matter what the weather, etc. Gonna have to have them fix it (so they say). I've tried it. The reason I like it is because of the Dual reciever. It has HD for my living room and then it sends SD upstairs. It's nice to be able to record stuff on two seperate DVR's. I've been looking at DirectTV and I haven't seen that feature. Do they have it?

I also want to get my locals in HD, which Dish doesn't do (I know, I'm considering the OTA). My package now is $90 a month, for the second to the top package, dual reciever and the HD stuff. There are a few channels I want to upgrade to (like Versus) and of course the woman has some channels she'd want.

Should I upgrade my Dish (and get the signal part fixed) or switch to DirectTV for some extra features and HD stuff. I'm torn if Direct doesn't have a dual reciever.

    Thanks.

It sounds like your technician gave you a bad installation. The dish might not be properly aligned or not have a good line of sight, i.e. behind too many trees.

I have Dish Network and I hardly ever lose signal, even in bad weather. When I first got Dish, I too had trouble because their older recievers were crap and my dish was out of whack. Since I upgraded to the newer model receivers and had my dish re-aligned, I've been very happy. So, before deciding to dump the whole system, be sure it's not something easily fixable, like a decent install job.

And yeah, I love their dual-tuner DVR. I've read several reviews that rate it as the best in the business.

Yeah I was looking at it today. I don't have a ladder so I couldn't get up there. It's pointed the same direction as most in the neighborhood, but it's pointed right above the house next to mine. So I guess it could be pointed to low, it's just to hard to tell from the ground.

I just need them to come out, which is hard since I have to be at work.

I have Dish in Houston and have loved it. THeir new receivers and actual dish are great. I upgraded my HD package to the expanded channels they came out with not long ago and it includes all the locals in HD as well.

My only complaint with Dish was when I had an older receiver it just went out unexpectedly after having it only 1 year. I had them come out to give me a new one and they wanted to charge me $100 for something their ****** receiver broke all of a sudden. It worked one day then the next it didn't. Apparently any service call no matter what they stick $100 to you.

I just went with DirectTV from comcast but I spend a lot of time at my parents who have Dish network. The dual receiver from Dish is the best by far, you can record and watch in either room or you can use both tuners for one tv and use PIP as your tv is designed, all with the flip of a button.

Direct TV as of now kills on channels, I have many more regular and HD channels for the same price (actually less than) as my parents (might change in 6 months when the introductory period ends).

When did they change from the so called "old" receiver to the new one? Mine was installed late April I believe. It wasn't bad for a few months, hardly went out. Then a few months ago it seemed to happen more frequently. Now, the signal is out most of the time.

And if you have the warranty plan (whatever it's called) they only charge like 70% of that $100. Or thats what I understood from the lady on from Dish.

wild_turkey, I think we're pretty much talking about the same thing. One box that sends out two signals to different tv's.

You need to get your dish tweaked. I have DISH in Austin and have lost service ~3 times this year including the ice storm.
