Fortunately the swine have mostly descended into a pit of irrelevancy in 4 and 5 star-level Texas recruiting after their move to the SEC.

Is there a suggestion that OU is paying some N. Texas HS coaches? Or do I need some new reading-between-the-lines glasses?

Directly pay no, but money isn't everything.

Aha! I'll leave it at that.

I predict that this recruiting class is going to be heavy with both kids from DFW and Arizona. JQJ is the type of player that will attract others to follow him. Already look at the guys that are leaning hard to Texas because of him. I think Texas lands

    Chris Thompson Jr
    Prince Dobrah

Outside shot at Jase McCullen and Jahari Rogers.

Add to the guys we already have from DFW and that is 5 to 7 guys or roughly a quarter to a third of our class.

I have a really good feeling about the Arizona guys. Ringo, Ransom, and Robinson. I think we get all three.

Again I just want a quarter of the top guys. I'd guess there are as many Texas exes in north Texas as any other school.

I do think DFW has always had more transplants (#3 corporate headquarters after NYC and LA) so the culture is less state focused overall.

All this fixation with recruiting D/FW is over wrought. Recruiting HS kids is very cyclical and regionally focused to some degree. BlowU is closer to Dallas than Austin. And a much simpler/easier and less expensive journey for family. Plus, some of these kids want to go home routinely (having gone to UT at 18, I’m not sure why). Before being blinded by ‘only non-Texas school’ inferiority fit, Arkansas owned East Texas recruiting. Street would have gone there had they had a decent baseball team. They had at least 4 AA’s from ET in the ‘60s. None since joining SEC. duh, wonder why that is?
Regionalism draws fam. Hence, when the sodbusters exhibited the ultimate penis envy over the Longhorn Network and took their ball to the SEC, SEC, they opened all south east Texas to Alabama, ole miss, LSU, etal owing to them playing every other year in dog patch. I reckon aTm figured on raiding Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana for top talent. You gotta dream!
UT will have that headwind to recruit against in perpetuity. I guess until they get ‘Welcome’ printed on the front of their doormat/helmets.
A couple years ago, aTm chose to play Prairie View, boldly risking the cinch of winning half time. Now I see where they have risked their likely Natty, by playing Lamar in pre-conference games. Bold, by damn. Question? Is this the Lamar in Beaumont or the better one over on Westheimer Road?

No. Dallas is equal distance to both.

Correct, as the crow/bat flies. But until planet Waco gets moved off I35 and/or until the Barker Lane/Georgetown parking lot gets expanded, in-time of travel terms, Austin is located some few miles into the Gulf of Mexico. Genius/ignorance. Principal difference. One has bounds.

35 through Oklahoma is under constant repair so that art is a push. My wife's niece's daughter plays soccer for ou and she is from Houston so she gets to fight 45 then 35.

Right. I measure 53 miles from DeSoto to Prosper. Must be the same place.

The top athletes at a few DFW schools seem (to me) to almost never have any interest in Texas: Dallas Carter, SOC, maybe some of the Garland/Carrollton/Lewisville schools. It could be a pro-OU or anti-UT coaching staff, or just a general dislike of the Horns in certain limited pockets of the region... Maybe Rashad Samples will break some of that down.

On a similar note, anyone else remember when the ags used to say there were pockets of East Texas (ahem, cough, cough, Lufkin, cough, cough) in which Mack Brown and UT were simply not welcome?

The State should be ours, but it doesn't come without a lot of hard work.

Garland produced Herkie Walls and Marquise Goodwin for Texas. Not sure how DKR missed on Gene Mays. Steve Casteel developed big time for ou, and Chuck Dicus was 2 time AA for the pigs. There is a kid at Garland Lakeview who is drawing attention, but I question his academics.

I think it was more a case of Gene's family situation and his wife not wanting to be so far from her parents. DKR had Chris Gilbert coming in; TCU had both Ross Montgomery & Norm Bulaich coming in.

Samples is gone. So what are we doing to mitigate any harm and to maintain the level of recent DFW recruiting Samples brought to us?

At a minimum hold the current commitments. As I said above Herman should have been ready for this. With less than a month before fall practice starts for both college and HS, finding a coach is going to be tough. If Beaty is on staff he would be a good fill-in.

Frisco Lone Star HS has consistently been one of the better 5A schools in the State (currently #1 in 5A-DI). For some reason most of their people have been going to the PAC-12. However, look who showed up on Thursday:

Unfortunately no pictures of anyone from Texas.
