The #11 Texas Longhorns take on the #5 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Texas’ first bowl game.
Here in the third quarter, Zuel Conoly throws the clearing block for Jackie Field on a 61 yard punt return, giving the ‘Horns a 14-0 lead. Texas went on to win 14-7.
Most of these guys I’m sure had more important work to do after the game wearing different uniforms.

Seems like our chap girls reach peak sassiness in same cycle as our football success: e.g., 2004-2005, 2008-2009. Based on my observations, we should be good for 2019.

Yeah, very different times. The world was at war. If you enhance that photo of the fans at the CB on the visitors / Texas side there are a LOT of fans wearing ARMY uniforms and a handful of NAVY uniforms. Cannot make out any Marines and the Air Force would have had uniforms similar to ARMY.:usflag:

America loved football, but was far more focused on the war and much less on sports or pastimes in 1943. The outcome of the war was far from certain...

Probably best known for ending the college career of Marcus Dupree. Rest assured though Dupree was not the only opposing player to be on the receiving end of a Peavy hit.

Love this sort of player. The headhunter-type safety like Peavy instills fear and lives in the back of the minds of opposing WRs, disrupting their offense. BJ Foster is the latest incarnation.

Peavy and Hagy (another vicious-hitting headhunter type safety) played on the same Longhorn team/same era. You wouldn’t want to be an opposing WR coming over the middle in those years...

Especially since the rules of the day didn't lean towards suspending any player who was even mildly aggressive back there.

Yes the rules have changed how safeties and corners can play the game now. Bryant Westbrook was one of my favorites due to his big hits and aggressive style. Michael Huff would hit you hard. I just love aggressive secondary play. I always knew I made a good hit when I saw stars at impact!
The game has changed a lot since then!
