That was a great one. The Chiefs probably should have compensated Mack Brown in some fashion for keeping the wear and tear on him to a minimum. I definitely would have run him more.

Great players who wore 24 (as with 4, 66, 77, 81, etc.) are many. Here’s one for you younger guys:

    Walter Fondren III
    [IMG]
Grandson of Humble Oil founder Walter Fondren, Sr.
    Grad of Houston’s Lamar HS.
DKR’s first quarterback. All-conference 1955. 1956 team MVP. Team captain 1957. Rushed for 1,217 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns in his career. Because he played both ways, punted and returned kickoffs, he holds the record for minutes played in a season.
    Longhorn Hall of Honor 1983.

    Chop,

Dion gave me an excused absence the last few weeks, so I have just read this entire list. Not to threadjack but to your questions about Eric Metcalf -

Terry lived in DC area, which is where Eric attended HS. His recruitment was another story of accident tuned good. Eric's mother & much of his extended family lived in Seattle, including two cousins that played at UW. Eric's first game was in Palo Alto. His mother & cousins came down. After our win (because John Elway Sr had a massive brain fart & Akers & Ty read him like a book), Eric wanted everyone to meet his mom. Fred was in a hurry to get back to San Jose and on the charter. I told Fred this may be the only game she got to see him play, the damn plane could wait. The grin on Eric's ace as he introduced his mother to alums was priceless.

Shown here intercepting a Joe Theismann pass in the 1970 Cotton Bowl.
His interception in the Big Shootout came at a crucial time when the piggies were about to put the game away.
    Taken way too young.

    Speaking of Ernie Koy, Jr...

@SabreHorn sent this photo of his grandson with Ernie (whose own grandson was on the opposing team).

HS all-American Weslaco HS. Quarterbacked the ‘59 team to a shared conference championship (with Arkansas & TCU), DKR’s first. In addition to quarterback, he also played defensive back, punted, and handled place-kicking duties. Longhorn Hall of Honor 1977.

He also made the cover of SI, the first Longhorn to do so. This showed him leaving the field in the Cotton Bowl after a 15-14 victory over the Sooners, the first victory for a DKR team over OU.

I noticed that, too. Not sure she thought that one through. That’s his wife Judy, BTW.
It’s also interesting that SI used a year-old pic for its cover.
