Aggy ran out of time in 9 of those 10 games against LSU
One those 10 games ended in a tie ... so I guess both teams ran out of time

LSU-aggy should be interesting this season. Don't know how LSU will end up after losing to Texas, but they should be better towards the end of the season if they are anywhere as good as the LSU posters here claim. The game is in BR, and at the end of the season. We all know what that means for aggy; however, if aggy somehow stumbles across another win Coach O will be gone by the end of the next week.

Speaking of aggy-LSU, aggy wore down LSU's secondary in the 4th quarter in 2018. What LSU has to understand is the Texas offense is significantly better than aggy's. The only thing that is going to help LSU is a lightning delay at halftime to give their secondary a chance to catch their breath.

now that lsu are the ags' "biggest rival" we should schedule them every year so lsu sees us as a bigger rival than the ags. lol

we could just make them what ou was for us when ou was a non-con game.

Apparently you didn’t realize LSU was literally playing wide receivers in the secondary due to so many injuries. Same with the Fiesta bowl. Had Fulton played, aggies would have gotten beaten way before OT

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

We send our weak sister to the mighty SEC and she beats you. And you cry and say, "It wasn't fair! We had injuries! If Boudreaux had played, we woulda won! Waaaaaaa!!!" Jeez. Did you run out of time too?

We played DBs at WR last year and will play WRs at RB in our game with you. The reality is that it shows depth riches/issues. Everyone has them. No one should whine about them.

I understand what you are saying but one guy would not have made any difference. Mond and his receivers had your LB's and DB's completely baffled. Texas' QB and receivers are in another league from aggy's.

I disagree. Fulton is that good. And Aggie finally beat us once since they joined the SEC. I guess even a blind squirrel will find a nut every once in a while.

Yup, chances are if you play a team many times the ball will bounce their way once in a while. LSU just don’t let it happen again within the next 50 years.

I also have fond memories of beating the aggys, but I also remember tossing poop on our band. I remember food poisoning for Major. And I remember their fans...

LSU loses oline man Kardell Thomas:

BATON ROUGE — LSU's injuries along the offensive line got worse on Wednesday as freshman offensive lineman Kardell Thomas went down with what head coach Ed Orgeron revealed is a serious injury.

At his Wednesday press conference, Orgeron at first said he wasn't sure how serious it was, but alluded that Thomas is expected to miss some time. Sources told Geaux247 the Baton Rouge nativeis expected to miss an extended period of time following the injury.

"Kardell Thomas was getting some (reps), but Kardell just received an injury right there (at practice)," Orgeron told reporters after practice. "I don’t know how serious it is, we are going to see, but I am sure he will be out for a little while. So that’s another injury for the offensive line."

Thomas, the OL that is out (possibly for the year), was most likely going to redshirt this year. Needs to develop strength in his lower body before he's ready for prime time. Could hurt his development to be ready for next year, that's for sure.

LSU's tackles and center have been healthy so far in camp. But a few guards are out with what are supposed to be minor injuries (other than Thomas). Need RG Lewis to be ready for the season - he'll most likely miss the scrimmage this Saturday but hopefully is back on the field next week.

At LG most were expecting Hines to win that spot, but he's been out more than he's been on the field so far this fall. Magee is running first team. Have another G or two out with minor injuries. Definitely thin at G right now if some of these guys don't get back to practicing before the season. Which is surprising considering everyone was worrying about OT much more than G, which was expected to be a strength of the team this year.

    Gotta love camp.

First things first. Thanks for having me. I have read all 13 pages of this thread. Very entertaining found out stuff about both Texas and LSU I didn't know. This is one thing I found very interesting.

Horns will have a top 10 "O" in '19. In the country not just Big XII. That means they will go from a middle of the pack in conference in '18 to top 10 in the country in '19. Mighty big jump if you ask me. No body did but that's just my opinion.

I know the Big XII is suppose to be a high flying seat of their pants point a minute offensive conference but the horns in '18 didn't really fit that mold.

According to popular opinion LSU and the rest of the SEC is nowhere near as advanced in offensive football as the Big XII. SEC simplistic run heavy league. No imagination in passing game. So let's compare some numbers. LSU and Texas first.

    AVG # plays per game - UT - 75 -- LSU -73
AVG yards per play - UT 5.5 -- LSU 5.5
    Run Pass ratio - UT - 55% - 45% -- LSU 58% - 42%
    Points per game - UT - 31.1 -- LSU - 32.4
    Total offense - 411 yds -- LSU - 402 yds

Don't really see much difference between those two sets of numbers.

As for Big XII VS SEC. UT and LSU both had a 5.5. yd per play avg. Three Big XII teams were lower than that. Only one SEC was below a 5.5 avg.

Now here is what I found very interesting. Only four Big XII teams had better than a 6.0 yard avg whereas nine SEC teams were better than that mark.
I guess the SEC can play a little offense.

Glad to have you. You're correct in that UT (Big UT, not the smaller school in Tennessee) does not run a typical Big 12 offense. With Sam at QB, it's more balanced and less pass-happy. Last year, you could fairly characterize our offense as a balanced attack that was very proficient at ball control, generating first downs, wearing down defenses, etc. Herman also has many tricks up his sleeve and likes to run trick plays, wildcards, and other unusual plays more frequently than most coaches. We also go to a hurry-up offense with regularity. Look to OU, Baylor, and Tech for the current best examples of the "classic" Big 12 pass-happy spread offenses.

Our biggest loss is LJH, arguably the best possession/ball control WR in the game last year. We'll have more speed on the field at WR this year and are very deep, but LJH will be missed. Epps may play a role similar to LJH this year, but IMHO Epps is nowhere near our most talented WR. We'll also likely hand off the ball more to the RBs to keep Sam from so much contact (which he seems to genuinely relish). Ingram's recurring mild injuries could put that plan in jeopardy--plus you can't stop Sam from taking off running on his own and lowering his shoulder... It's effective, but dangerous. Other than Bama, this will probably be the best OL LSU will face all year. We have the first competent OL coach we've had in eons (Hand), and he's very, very good. LSU will be the only team UT faces with arguably better overall team speed than we have, and it's pretty close (I'd put OU as roughly equal in overall team speed to us). I've long regarded LSU as a program with generally superior raw talent but so-so coaching.

It's been discussed upthread by both UT and LSU fans, but I would anticipate some growing pains early this season at LSU with their new offense. I wouldn't be surprised if they revert back to their more traditional attack if their new offense sputters against UT.

This is a great match up, that may be decided by turnovers, kicking game, home field advantage, and intangibles. Also, these are two great, and generally congenial, fan bases--the tailgate has the potential to be one of the best ever experienced.

    Texas by 7.

#1 - Those numbers don't surprise me one bit.
    #2 - Who says Texas will have a top 10 "O" in '19? I certainly don't think so.
#3 - I think you mean the B12 is "supposed" to be a high flying offense league. TH has said many times he wants Texas to be a run first team. However, the OL the last couple of years has prevented it. That is changing and I have no doubt Texas will more run focused in the future. It's certainly not TH's plan to be the prototypical B12 offense.
#4 - Who's popular opinion? The SEC has a number of high flying spread, run & shoot, up tempo, whatever you want to call them offenses. That's certainly no secret. However, none of them have done very well in the W column. And like SJ said, there's some really weak defenses in the SEC to go along with the good ones.

The Texas offense is going to be great. There is no way around it. We have a 3rd year starting QB who has been in the same offense all 3 years. As Tom Herman said in one of his press conferences. Sam knows the offense as well as any of the coaches. He see things that not even the coaches are catching.

Sam is going to be lining up behind the best offensive line Texas has had in over 10 years. We have some questions about Right Tackle, but the other 4 spots are very solid.

Our receivers are incredible hands down the best and deepest position on the team. No idea what to expect from our TE position, but we have a lot of guys with good experience in the program.

I think our RBs are going to be really explosive both as running backs and as receivers.

This offense doesn't have too many weaknesses, this is why I said we would be top 10 this year. I think we will average close to 40 pts per game.

I wouldn't count on wearing out the tigers front seven. They go two deep across the board with talent and experience. There is one player at DT (Apu) that is a TrFr though. He was in for spring and dominated in spring game. He is in a battle to start. This will be the most talented and deepest LSU "D" in a while, probably since '11.

After those two returning starters at WR who are some of those names on that deep WR corps?

As for SEC Olines bama's good but, some have Auburn just as high. With what the aggies bring back they could be better than UT also. Has that transfer from GT ever had to pass block before? Tiger Oline returns four starters and another four with some level of starting experience. RT is the BIG question in pass protection.

You are right about LSU "O". Big question is how the react in a hostile environment. If Burrow can avoid the turnovers we should be OK. Kickoff can't get here fast enough.

You are correct sir. There are absolutely some weak defenses in the SEC, not as many as the Big XII though. SEC has many more high end defenses.

    Defensive yards per play
    UT - 5.6 -- LSU 4.8

    conference comparison

    over 6.0 yds a play Big XII 3 -- SEC 2
    under 5.5 yds a play Big XII 2 -- SEC 7

Could you please list the names of that deep WR position? All I see is two with any kind of production coming from last year.

What would you say about the LSU "D" if they hold Sam and his buddies to 21 or under?

I think that would be a strong defensive performance because I expect (hope!) that the Texas O can be fairly productive this year. It starts with the o-line, of course, which should be improved but one never knows...

    1) Piss poor play calling

    2) Young WRs making the wrong reads

Both of which our fanbase is very familiar with going back to the Mack Brown years.
