Nice video/post. I liked it all except the "air raids" at 0:51 - 0:56. i used to really hate that drill in HS and Jr. H... I'm probably not alone.

I also thought it was funny how he was waiving that oversized baseball bat around when the return man was practicing fielding punts at 1:10 - 1:17. Like hitting a real high slow pitch softball. I'm not sure if there was a purpose to that, or if he was just clowning around with the return man.

On the CB battle, from TFB (Super K) --

The cornerback battle between Kobe Boyce and D’Shawn Jamison seems to have been decided for now. Boyce started the scrimmage and Jamison backed him up. Both did receive first-team reps but I anticipate Boyce starting against LA Tech.

The biggest difference in Boyce’s game, I’m told, is confidence. We all know he has the speed, flexibility, feet and ball skills. But at times last year, he just appeared hesitant and unsure of himself.

On the other side, Jalen Green started and Cook and Green rotated. Green has had an excellent camp from what I’ve heard. We know he has all the upside in the world but the issue was his knowledge of the defense. It sounds like he has remedied that. He knows what he’s doing now. The exact sourced quote was, “He knows what he’s doing now so his athleticism can take over”.

That CB position (Boyce or Jamison) is my biggest ? for the defense. Boyce has raw talent, but played about like you should expect a Freshman to play last year. He’s still young. These reports are very hopeful, and I certainly hope he’s up to it this year, but we’ll see against La Tech. Whether Boyce and/or Jamison have developed into quality starters will likely be one of the biggest factors in the success of our defense.

If Boyce and Jamison don’t work out, Cook and Green can man the 2 starting positions (aside from the first half of game one suspension). Boyd was frustrating—boom or bust; the sort of bust that cost us a touchdown or big play. I’m hoping for better CB play this year.

Here is the The Eyes of Texas Podcast with Eric Nahlin, Joe Cook on this --

    QBs:
-Casey Thompson starting to really come together as a college QB. Starting to compete with Ehlinger more every day. (Not the point of creating a controversy but his grasp on the game is becoming evident). Can win games with him if Ehlinger goes down (knock on wood).

More from that^ podcast -- it dawned on me later that they knew about the Moore arrest some time before the rest of us did

    WR’s:
-Best group on the field. Collin Johnson is awesome. Great leader. Gotten bigger/stronger. Devin Duvernay didn’t work at slot when he first arrived on campus but he’s one of the best players and with Eagles really starting to show up, the staff had to find a place to get him in the game. Slot was the best place. Great route runner. Eagles is the best pure WR on the team. Amazing talent that will show as long as he’s healthy. Jake Smith will play this year. Too good to keep him off the field. Epps should have a boom or bust type of year. Showing really good athleticism and hands in practice. Not fast.

    OL:
-Much more depth. Will be much improved. Next year (‘20) will be even better. Angilau is a beast. Braun is even more of a beast. Kerstetter doing well inside at guard. Okafor doing “ok” at tackle. May see some more outside runs instead of everything occurring between the tackles. Shackelford has entrenched himself at center. Cosmi is doing good as expected. Tyler Johnson, Christian Jones, and Hookfin will be ready next year. May get some snaps but not anything significant.

    One more quote --

Jacoby Jones was looking really good and running second team until he suckerpunched a helmetless Kerstetter in the face during the aftermath of some spicy skirmish. He's now in the doghouse.

I've seen no discussion on who the return men will be, kickoff and punt returns. I hope Jake Smith is one of them.

You can't judge the OL and DL from Spring or Fall camps.... They are going against their own guys; and who is to say if they are all that good or not.??? The lines can only be assessed during game action. Skilled guys can show their skills in scrimmages and drills, and can show great or poor talent, but linemen are only as good or bad as the opponent of the day makes them or forces them to be.

A double WTF on that one Jacoby Jones...! I’m very much for aggression, hard hitting, and generally (legally) kicking *** on the field, but you don’t sucker punch your own teammate in the face when his helmet is off.

D@&$ son, even Jack Tatum only did sh!t like that to the opposing team!

    Something I wanted to mention.

I was watching one of the youtube film breakdowns with the Ohio state fan. I think one or two have been posted here. He mentioned something and I went back and watched more film.

Our offensive linemen are really good and shooting a peoples knees. Don't believe me go back and look at the spring game. Now if this gets the job done in a game, I don't care, that is the other teams issue. But I saw a clip of Kerrstettler diving at the knee of BJ Foster. That actually pissed me off, I'm thinking WTF is he thinking. It' one thing to do it to your opponent, but damn BJ is going to be a star and you want to risk his health like that? It wasn't just BJ I saw these guys do it several times. I'm actually surprised we don't have defensive guys with more knee injuries.

I don't know what the fights have been about but when I hear of Jacoby Jones sucker punching Kerrstetter, I'm thinking there was a bit of payback in that punch.

Frankly I’m just impressed with your connections.

Now, you didn’t tell your wife that you were wrong yet, did you? Honestly is the best policy, except when it isn’t. It’s sort of a “Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile” thing.

A sucker punch in the face won't hurt a football player nearly as much as a cut block to the knees can. See Austin bill's post above. Rule # 1 is 'Don't go for your teammates knees. Period. That can be a career ender.

I won't judge Jacoby on this, cause I don't know what happened a play or two before this. Lots of sh-t can go down in the heat of an intense practice.

It's funny, a lot of my high school friends when into law enforcement and I just happens to still be in touch with them through Facebook. My uncle is the Sherriff in San Antonio and my cousin is SAPD.

I also have a long time mentor who recently retired from FBI, he was my Boy Scout Leader growing up. I have another buddy who is a US Marshall up in Dallas and another cousin who married a cop in Ft Worth.

If something happened to me, I got the blue backing me up.

As for my wife, I stick to two words, "Yes Dear". and I'm good. Happy Wife, Happy Life"!

Well, the fact the report states that Jacoby is in the doghouse for this, while there is nothing about Kerstetter being in the doghouse, sheds some light on the situation... Sure, they can’t see everything on every play, but I’m not going to second guess the staff on this one.

We’re probably not going to agree on this one. That’s fine. Understand, I don’t want anything done to damper our new-found aggression and mean streak as a team. It’s the “sucker punch” (on your own teammate) aspect of this that bothers me.

These injuries are getting awful. I hope most of them are not serious and they're back by LSU, if not La Tech.

Roschon was my pick as the first guy to (temporarily) switch positions to an "emergency" RB. His HS film shows exceptional running ability as a QB. I'd consider giving Jake a look too--maybe cross-train Jake as a WR / RB...? Jake rushed for 741 yards as a Sr, and he rushed for 1,135 yards as a Jr.

It's getting to be like the old "who around here played kicker in HS?" situation...

What's the latest word on when Ingram will be back? If Ingram is out, then our only non-injured scholarship RB is true Freshman J. Whittington. J. Whitt is exceptionally talented, but he's a true Freshman and came in as a multi-purpose athlete.
