Have enjoyed following the back and forth. I'll confess 167 that I'm a rabid fan without the blind confidence regarding this game. I'm fully aware what we might have in store because my take is we will sorely miss LJH as well as the reality this is not the same defense that we had against Ga, nor the same offense. Folks forget Tre and the game he had, and everyone else we are counting on is soooo new. I've seen Freshman and first year starters contribute but it's rare against an LSU talent.
But hope springs eternal and mine rings true BOrange so I'm hoping to head home Sunday with a HUGE smile on my face.

Burrow has pretty good running ability. More similar in style to Ehlinger, say, than a finesse runner. Shows good patience, finds the hole, is pretty fast, and is a load to tackle.

I've watched some of your games from last year and Ehlinger is a pretty nifty runner. Burrow's probably not that nifty but overall they are similar in the run game.

Burrow didn't run a lot during the regular season last year because the only other scholarship QB on the roster was injured, so they limited Burrow until the last 2-3 games of the year.

    Ehlinger 164 att 482 yds 2.94 ypa 16 TDs
    Burrow 128 att 399 yds 3.12 ypa 7 TDs

Pretty similar numbers for the 2 QBs (of course in college these stats include sacks, not just designed runs). I would expect to see Burrow keeping the ball on the read option, or on designed QB runs, a number of times against Texas.

Edit: Breakdown of 2-3 of his run plays from last year:

As long as the Texas defense held the LSU offense to under 21 pts I would be very happy. I would be happy even if all 21 pts came from the leg of our kicker.

In 2005 when Texas won the national title we faced what was by far the #1 defense in the country in tOSU. That year Texas had the #2 scoring offense in the country behind USC. They held us to 25 pts. Texas ended the season with a scoring average of 50.2

This offense isn't going to be that good, but I believe it will be good enough to average about 40 pts per game.

As for our best receivers: Brennan Eagles, think of him as a much faster Lil Jordan Humphreys, Mike Epps, think of him as a slower but much stronger Lil Jordan Humphreys, then of course we have Collin Johnson and Devin Duverney. Finally we have a Freshmen you will absolutely hate, his name is Jake Smith, he was the Gatorade National High School Player of the year. He is going to make your life miserable. All these guys are about as sure handed has there is in the game. And they are all very athletic.

Needless to say, I feel pretty darn good about our passing game.

What are you going to say if Texas hangs 30+ on your swamp kittens.

Please oh please let Burrows be a runner like Ehlinger.
Joe Burrow is 6'4 216 lbs, Sam is 6'2 240 lbs. If Burrows wants to run like Sam he will not finish the first quarter against our defense. Sam is a QB in a fullback's body. Burrow is a drop back passer that can scramble. Texas is just like LSU in that we both have a lot of speed on the field. Our safeties are ruthless hitters, they are going to kill him if he tries to run.

I heard the same stuff from the Georgia pound puppies about Fromm, he didn't fair so well.

Burrow is not someone I would consider a true dual threat QB. He does have his moments and can hurt the opposing "D" with his legs. He has pretty decent speed for a white boy.

This RPO might be new to quite a few LSU players but, not to him. He has always played QB and this is the offense he ran since 7th grade. He was Mr Football as a Sr in Ohio. Ran this offense for three years at the Ohio St for Urban and Herman too I suppose. Burrow had never taken a snap from under center before last august.

I can see Burrow adding another 40-50 passing yards to his game. Somewhere in the 275+ yards a game range. Actually I would have thought a longer drought than that.

We have a secret Texas psycho-mojo that causes good teams to make mistakes and implode on demand. You’ll see.

What people underestimate with Sam is his lower body strength. Think of the time Georgia DE had him dead to rights. He ducks, lets the guy go over him, and picks up a big 1st down. Sam's ypc are not high, but also he's our goto inside the 2 at the goal line. 4 downs against Georgia for 1yd, but that 1yd was the difference. Yards don't tell the whole story. Those 16 TDs are the story to Sam's running.

When LSU won the '07 title they played the same the Ohio State University. Tigers hung 38 points on the #1 "D" in the country. That game and your game in '05 has no bearing on 9/7/19.

National Gatorade High School player of the year, congrats to the young man. Saw where he was a 4* and something like the #8-#9 WR in the country. Did you see that finalist for the award from LA? Stingley was not only the #1 CB in the '19 class he was the highest rated CB ever. Read that on the internet somewhere so, it has to be true. Was smith in for the spring?

In '18 LSU signed the #1 WR class in the country. That group was led by the #3 receiver (5*) Terrace Marshall. Two years in a row LSU has landed the top two wideouts in LA and if the current commits hold it will be three in a row.

So basically what you're telling me is that besides the two returning starters none of the other WRs have done much of anything in Austin. All those other guys nothing proven yet.

There was a huge huge difference between the 07 tOSU team and the 05 team. The defence of the O5 team was legendary. They were by far the best defense in the country. Me comparing LSU to them is a huge compliment to LSU. I won't call it the best defense I've ever seen, but it was damn good. It put a ton of guys in the NFL. I looked it up and that Defense had 3 guys drafted in the first 8 picks of the first round of the 2006 draft. All together it had 6 defensive players taken in the first 4 rounds of that draft.

Point is that Even if Texas only scores 21 pts, I'm feeling pretty good that our defense will hold your offense to less than your defense holds our offense.

Dude you're getting a little carried away there. Fromm had 41 carries for -27 yards last year. If you can't tell the difference between that and Burrow, who had a higher ypc than Sam on over a 100 carries, well I can't help you.

Georgia people kept telling us how Fromm is a good athlete and will run on us if given the chance. Just like Burrow. Trust me, after facing Kyler Murray, I have zero fear of Burrow's running ability. If he wants to do his best Ehlinger impersonation, feel free, it's his head that will be knocked off. I will dare say that this Texas defense is going to be the fastest defense you face all year, including Bama. Now I will preface that by saying we won't be the biggest, but we will be playing more Dbs most of the time and we will crowd the line and try to force confusion in the offensive line. Of all the people running with the ball on your offense we want your QB to do most of the carrying. Better him than your Rbs or receivers.

Here's the numbers for Ehlinger and Burrow when you back out the sacks and sack yardage from their rushing totals:

    Burrow 93 att 589 yds 6.3 ypa
    10+ yards 21 times
    20+ yards 4 times

    Ehlinger 136 att 700 yds 5.1 ypa
    10+ yards 25 times
    20+ yards 0 times

Now I think Ehlinger is probably the better runner, and he was used a lot in short yardage situations that affected his average. But, after looking at these numbers, would you agree Burrow is a competent runner? He's no Kyler Murray, and I never said he was. But the D has to account for him or he'll keep the ball and gain decent yardage.

Ehlinger had 46% more non-sack carries than Burrow, but just edged him out on 10 yard runs and had no 20+ yard runs. I would argue that Burrow is the more explosive runner than Ehlinger, although Ehlinger certainly would get the nod in short yardage situations that call for a fullback.

So I guess you're right that they do have different running styles.

It would not surprise if the LSU game was a 1 pt affair or a 17 to 21 point blowout ( if you can call a 21 pt game a blowout these days ). If Texas comes in with the right attitude and things go well we could win by 21. If Texas comes in thinking it will be like the Sugar Bowl, we could get spanked by 21 +. just gotta sit back and hope to enjoy it.

No disrespect Bill. I can call you Bill? Right. I feel we have come to know each other pretty well over these last couple of days.

Right now everyday in practice LSU "O" is going up against the fastest "D" in college football.

    Umm not even close.

Ehlinger is a better short yardage runner which is an asset when trying to punch it in the endzone. Burrow can turn a 5 yard run into a 30 yard run. I’m getting excited about the new offense which will compliment the WR depth. Chase and Marshall should have big years and Jefferson is also handful. It will be interesting to see how Ensminger and Brady use all the RB’s. CEH will start due to experience, but I’m excited to see Emory. He will be a stud.

Texas has a 5'star freshmen safety named Tyler Owens who finished 3rd in the state track finals with a time of 10.29. He is not going to see the field this year because he had 6 safeties ahead of him. Texas is going to play all 6 of them. Tyler is not a small guy, he is 6'2 205 lbs. He dominated at the all star game (don't remember if it was the Under Armor or the other one in San Antonio). Point is Texas has speed everywhere on our defense.

Are you saying Texas will have packages to play 6 safeties at a time??? If so, huge mistake in my opinion. Your safeties won’t be able to stay with the wideouts and LSU will also pound the rock over and over and I guarantee you the safeties will get tired of hitting backs in the secondary. I’m not saying a package here and there with that many safeties isn’t a good fit for certain plays, but to see it often is a mistake IMO.

You will likely see some unorthodox packages from our D. Orlando is anything but conventional. Our quality depth at S is unmatched. Some of our Safeties (BJ Foster for example, also consider Overshown) hit harder than LBs. LSU’s RBs will get to know them up close and personal. Your trainer will have a busy week after the game.

Well, we sure have a lot of back and forth between LSU and Texas. I hope we play often. You guys are a much better School and a much better program than A&M. So I hope these next two games we play are epic and somehow each administration will see the value of scheduling LSU vs. Texas as often as possible.

As for the game, each side says we have the better QB, faster Defense, better WR, better Oline. Both sides agree Texas has better Safeties and LSU has better LB's. I think Texas has a slight edge at RB too, but not as deep as LSU. This could come down to a kick Ya'll. I think it will be pretty close. My tickets are about the 45 yard line, now I just need to find a cheap Cedric Benson jersey to wear to the game. Really looking forward to this one, could be the game of the year if one of us gets to the Nat Championship Game. The winner of this game will have a great season and will go far! That's my line and I'm sticking to it.

Not saying that Mr Owens isn't a very fast and talented player. He was very highly ranked but he wasn't a 5* or top 100 on 24/7 composite.

You aren't going to get a single LSU fan to say horns have a better group of safeties. No way no how. The line for best safety in the country starts at Grant Delpit. Tigers other starting safety is 5* Jacoby Stevens. LSU just flat out has the better "D".

I actually think and I’ve already stated that Texas as a whole has a better safety unit, but Delpit will be the best safety on the field period.

Are you ready for some football????? Maybe a few weeks early, but will say that LSU is talented, Texas is talented.... However, Texas does have to build on last year and have an equal or better year to continue progress towards the CFP. LSU will be a good gauge of where Texas is...… LSU's gauge has been "Why can't you beat 'Bama?" lately, so both programs are doing well....

They (LSU) are really our only credible challenger for the DBU title. Winner claims the bragging rights and the DBU title.
