I have a lot of relatives who are LSU fans. I was living with one and his wife in 2001. She was searching the guide on the TV one day and was surprised to see that LSU was on. So was he. They had no idea. Well, that's because, in spite of what they believe now ever since Saban took them to the promised land in 2003, they were never a traditional football power. Anyone saying otherwise is full of it.

So, with all that said, it doesn't surprise me that some seemingly otherwise level headed LSU fans would come on here and say that their team will score 40 on us with a new offense in week 2.

That is typical LSU hyperbole. I am only surprised none of them have misspelled the word "go" in any posts that I can recall.

Five 5-stars in the secondary. Overshown is something of a hybrid but can probably still be considered a DB at this point. Plus - Jones, Cook, Jamison and Watson were all fairly high 4-stars. As the unanimous #1 safety nationally in his class, Brandon Jones probably should have been a 5-star, he has played like one.

Yes- id much rather see 5 star recruits, but to put much stock into how much better a 5 is compared to a 4 without either one playing a down, ill pass. Look at 3* vs 5*

    lackluster 3 star recruit list:
Mark Ingram (RB, Alabama) a 3*, I reckon a better option is Darrel Scott a 5 * who shunned UT and went to Colorado? Texas had to settle for 3* Tre Newton that year.... I’ll take that.

Ryan Perrilloux, switched to LSU at the last moment.
Thanks Ryan as UT signed lowly 3* Colt McCoy that year.

Who would have recruited Utah’s 3* Alex Smith, instead of 5* Mitch Mustain?

    More 3* from the experts:
    Michael Crabtree (WR, Texas Tech)
    Terrence Williams (WR, Baylor)
    Le'Veon Bell (RB, Michigan State)

    Luke Kuechly (LB, Boston College

What I have learned is that yes..., recruit 5*, but I have also been excited to see a 5* kid sign at UT and then disappear, while seeing fans complain about a 3* that turns into a total beast.
Lil Jordan, Shackelford come to mind as 3*s,,,,

You employ some very interesting correlations.

    1. I’m not sure how LSU not being a traditional college blue blood relates to “fans” claiming we will score 40 points against y’all. It’s a strange comparison.

    2. LSU fans didn’t come on here saying we would score 40. One fan simply posted a quote from LSU’s QB saying that’s LSU fans aren’t used to seeing their team scoring 40+ points in a game.

With that being said........ we’re gonna drop 40 on y’all.

    Jk, jk...... but maybe

I disagree. LSU defensive front seven is one of the best and deepest we’ve had in a while. I see them getting a lot of pressure especially from the middle and right edge. I think it’s a push between LSU’s oline and Texas’ front

Notice I didn't say anything about your front 7. I know how good your linebackers are, but your dline is suspect and can be pushed around, on their own they won't get much of a push without blitzing a backer. Either way I think Texas offensive line will push them around and even push them back into your backers. Austin is likely going to be super hot and humid that day and the night will not be much better. It bodes well for guys who are not 340 lbs. Our depth on both sides will be key difference in this game.

Lets not forget we are going to go no huddle for most of the game so your fat boys are not going to get much rest.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

I saw most of your spring game on $ec network. I didn't find your defense to be that impressive. I realize that it's a spring game and there are major limitations on hitting. But I didn't see any inkling of the dominance of which y'all speak. But I'm sure that you had injuries, people playing out of position, not really trying, blah, blah, blah....

Still doesn't change the fact that24?7 (not composite) was the only one that had him a 5*. Rivals had him at #62 overall. Their cut off for 5* was at #30. So he wasn't even close on that site. Never said he wasn't good or become a very good player. He just wasn't a 5* composite and that is the ranking most everyone references when talking about star ratings. There is hope, Grant Delpit was a 4*.

As for comparing one secondary to the other. You and I guess most UT fans would be in the vast minority that would take the horns secondary over LSU's. Any returning all americans to the Texas secondary? What about preseason? How about someone predicting an incoming freshman DB as defensive freshman player of the year?

Your last sentence is just blind homerism.

I have all the confidence in the world that Stingley will represent DBU proudly all season. In every game.

It's a UT fan that posted a list of the respective teams secondary. I just tried to show him the ERROR of his ways and ENLIGHTEN him as to how it works in the real world. When you see someone making a mistake do you tell him about it? Or do you let him continue doing it wrong going forward?

I respect the comments from these LSU fans, a breath of fresh air as compared to the OU and/or Aggie fans.

One thing, UT is sandwiched between two D2 schools in usual SEC fashion.
Drives me nuts that the SEC claims to be far superior, but continue to play non D1 schools.
Hopefully this will start to affect rankings.
Kudos for Saban for basically saying that.

Yo Bill could you enlighten me about the Texas depth along the Oline and Dline? Serious dude. I want to hear your assessment of the backups. From what I have read so far in this whole thread you seem to be the most knowledgeable UT fan.

I saw the first half of the sugar bowl and the fourth quarter. That "O" didn't impress me one iota. Your "D" looked OK but, all them dudes are gone at least the front eight.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

The Georgia fans at my hotel after the game were slightly more impressed. Glad you guys beat em at home pretty bad. Didn't watch that game last year, but I see that Georgia had 322 yards. We held Georgia to 284 yards in the Sugar Bowl. I wonder how they piled up more yards against your great defense?

Yes. Thus the use of "back" and not "still here and never left". How is this related to LSU scoring 40-60 ppg?

The LSU "D" last season was good not great. This year it will be hell on wheels.
You don't get points for yards. With that said LSU scored more points on UGA than what UT did. Tiger "D" also held them to fewer points.

I would be confident too if I was a longhorn fan but these boys don’t know what’s about to hit em. The Purple & Gold Pain Train is about to roll through Austin and Bevo is on the tracks.

    Good one.

Sounds like something that goes on at the far end of Bourbon Street, down past Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop...
