Halftime vs Ga Southern, 42-3. Coach O said Burrow probably done for the game, backup will start second half.

    20-24 253 yards 5 TDs

New offense looks pretty damn good.

I kind of refrained from the thread because LSU has better athletes than we do, their defense is better coached than ours, and I'm just "hopeful" we can win the game. After watching the first halves of both teams my mind hasn't changed. We'll need some breaks and a massive effort to win.

One healthy scholarship Rb we have now? And I'm not sure he (Keontay) can break a tackle at this level. How did we get to this point... Again. It used to be the o line had no depth, now it's at running back.

I'll be there in burnt orange, pulling hard for the Longhorns, but we're big underdogs here.

Man the offense looked sharp. I know we played Georgia Southern, but the offense is night and day better than last year. Defense showed up as always. Total dominate performance. I hadn’t had a chance to see any of the Texas game, but it looks like they handled Tech fairly easy. Next week will be a battle for sure.

LSU fans in the past have chided b12 style offenses. Now you are running one. Welcome to the 21st century.

We didn't handle La Tech as easily as we'd like to. No major complaints since we won the opener for a change, but a lot of room for improvement to be had.

Nothing learned by either win. Yes, the Texas game is going on still. Texas was up 38-0 before putting in all their back ups. I think La Tech is a little better competition than GA Southern but not like it matters.

I have no idea why some Horn fans keep saying Arada is better than Orlando. I couldn't care less if Tom went after him first. Orlando has proven himself over and over. Over all the Texas coaches are better than the LSU coaches.

Exactly one week from now we will know all we need to know.

Actually, something is learned by neither team struggling to put away inferior competition. So I wouldn't say nothing is learned. Both teams took care of business, setting up the big game a week from now.

If you had seen LSU struggle on offense against SELA last year, you would understand why we're excited.

Ga. Southern is FBS and won 10 games last year. Rated just a hair better than LaTech according to the metrics based rating systems (FPI, SP+).

La Tech looked like they were almost void of speed. In years past that wasn't the case. And their qb... Not good. I saw a stat where he threw for more 300 yard games than terry Bradshaw. No ****, man. They threw something like 25 times a game back then. We were running the bone then, we might have thrown the ball a dozen times.

It's a different day, comparing stats from literally 50 years ago is nonsense. Their qb just didn't pass well tonight.

Happy for the win tonight, want to beat LSU, but our guys have to raise their game Saturday night. The varsity will be here next week.

LSU gave up 98 yards of total offense today. Better coaches?? We are both biased, but I think LSU has a better staff.

How many QB’s threw 5 TD’s in the 1st half yesterday???? How many scored on 6/7 drives in the 1st half???? BTW, I think that there were maybe 2 “real” games played from Thurs to Sat, so the “favorite” was in the same boat as LSU. I wonder how Tenn and Ole Miss feel today??? You think ISU is thanking a divine spirit??? Which one of the 6 or 7 RB’s LSU used will play next week????

    I don't completely agree.^^^
I learned nothing from the LSU game, because I didn't see it.

But I saw our game & I learned that 1) our young secondary will be torched by a good passer and good receivers; 2) our line backing depth is thin & has trouble covering the speed throw wide to a back/receiver--LaTech ran this over and over and gained big yards, 3) our DC called blitz after blitz which was defeated often, and left wide open receivers running free in our secondary. LSU will punish our D for these mistakes.

Also I learned that 1) Sam is hitting the deep routes much better, 2) our big receivers are really big and really good--Eagles is the REAL DEAL and Epps is good too--as is Duverney, and of course our AA candidate Collin J., 3) Ingram is really good, bigger stronger, and has not lost any speed or shiftiness, 4) our O line is really significantly better! Our defense has a ton of growing up to do. We will have a very hard time stopping LSU and Okie State, because of our youth and inexperience.

OK, I think we get it now. The 2019 LSU team is the greatest thing ever. Those extra question marks really drove the point home for me.

I hope the LSU football team gets complacent and cocky as fast as their fan base. Maybe they are as dominant as advertised, but I suspect a bad Georgia Southern team played a part in that. I will say our secondary did not show up as a strength last night and will be a problem in this game if they play the same way.

My biggest concern going into the LSU game is the same thing we were talking about a couple of years ago. The secondary has a few issues with fundamentals. Some are taking poor angles, missing tackles, not using the sideline and the back of the endzone as an additional defender, not playing the ball at the end of the pass play and being too soft on coverage.

It is not as bad as a few years ago and give the coaches credit for correcting the problem with most of the players. But this takes time and as to LSU, they only have one week. It is hard for me to understand why these kids get into D-1 football without these fundamentals. Where is the high school coaching?

Some LSU fans were nitpicking after the game stating they were disappointed in the running game. Kind of hard when you are throwing the ball down the oppositions throat. Also there were quite a few throws to the backs that were basically running plays. Really excited to see Marshall, Jefferson, and Chase in Austin. I’m hoping we won’t see a big improvement in your defensive backs for game 2! But in all honesty, the defense will play better in my opinion. What LSU will really try and take advantage of is the backs in space against your LB’s. Brady will punish that until Texas stops it.

Having not seen the LSU game I wonder.
Was the QB ever under pressure or was he able to sit back there and pick them apart.
Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield were great until punched in the mouth and put on their *** a few times.
We managed to beat both of them.
Granted, we are replacing some of our D-line.
It will be interesting to see how Brady performs if we can keep him under pressure and dirty up that uniform a bit.
Or maybe it will be one of those "whoever scores last" wins.

Many times last night, Sam had all day to throw. The big question is: can our very good OL protect well against a very good LSU D front. If Sam has time, he’ll pick them apart. Sam has also proven he can go deep with decent accuracy. The key battle will be UT OL vs LSU DL.

Let's not get too scared about LSU beating up on the 3rd best team (at best) in their division of the Sun Belt Conference. (That is not far from a good FCS team.)

However, the first one to 45 (if the Texas secondary had shown the ability to cover and tackle I would have said 40) will win the game with the other with 43 points and moving the ball as time is running out. (Until the LSU defense shows they will not quit in a close game the jury will still be out on their mental toughness.)

    1. I told everyone in the off season we have some extremely talented corners but they were young and would be taking their lumps. When you face a air raid type offense you can expect that you will see a lot of yardage. That is just going to happen. They tossed the ball about 50 times in that game. About 90% of those passes were within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage.

The only thing I learned was that we can't rush the passer with our starting dline without a blitzer. These guys are great run stoppers but just not great pass rushers. This is where we miss Omenihu most.

Texas isn’t coming close to scoring 40 on that D. I don’t think either team will sniff 40 come Saturday. LSU will air it out this game. On the question if Burrow had pressure. Very little and he wasn’t sacked once. The Oline was dominate, but also Burrow made quick decisions and was killing GS on quick slants. Moss was a beast at TE and will be a handful as well with his size and speed. Is it Saturday yet?!?

Burrow was never really under pressure. Part of that was due to generally getting the ball out very quickly. The OL looked better than last year, but hard to take too much away given the level of competition. The biggest change was getting 5 out running patterns on almost every play; Burrow did a good job of quickly finding the open receiver or dumping to the RB.

As already mentioned, the run blocking didn't look great. Will have to watch again, maybe LSU threw the ball so much because Ga. Southern was playing the run and daring LSU to throw. But not a lot of huge holes to run through. In the second half LSU cleared the benches, the backup QB didn't look great but he was throwing to mostly 3/4 string WRs including a few true freshmen. So hard to say how he would have looked with the starters in there. The young WRs may not have been where he expected them to be as they haven't been running the offense very long. Other than those two issues it was a good tune up against an inferior opponent.
