Alabama showing that strong sense of discipline...player must sit for the first half...err, must sit until head coach determines that the players in the game suck beyond belief.

I hope the players are aware of the close shaves being experienced by power 5 teams around the country. And that they have themselves ready.

    Georgia State beating Tennessee.

Duke punk with a major cheap shot (stomping on a Bama player after the two got into a scuffle) that got him thrown out of the game, and he left the field celebrating and pumping up the crowd and clearly proud of what he did.

Ga State pretty much has Tenny beat right now. Physically dominating the vols.

Tennessee , to me, is in the same boat as Nebraska. A once proud and prosperous program that has been rendered irrelevant due to the changes in recruiting nationally. Too many mid majors are plucking good talent, and the top ten programs are beating Tenn and Neb to the top recruits, leaving crumbs for Tenn and Neb. No decent home- based recruiting base, no longer able to recruit nationally to be relevant

    Arkansas, pretty much the same.

Holly crap! Northwestern had one more shot with 30 seconds left. QB was hit before he threw the ball, it went backward into the EZ, a NW player tried to pick it up but dropped it and a Stanford player fell on it for a TD. Wild finish! Final Stanford 17 NW 7

It would have been hilarious had Oregon scored at the end and won by a point after Malzahn's silly decision not to try and lead 28-21 at the end.

You're wrong, what happened at Nebraska is not what happened in Knoxville. Tennessee has done "ok" recruiting in spite of the program being in the darkest place in program history. Without looking I think they've had top 25-30 recruiting classes which with good coaching should result in top 25 teams.

Tennessee is suffering from a terrible administration hijacking the program resulting in control issues, toxic executive level environment and terrible coaching hires. The last embarrassment of a hiring process at least flushed all that crap down the commode. I'm not sure anyone left knows what it takes to rebuild a championship program. We'll see.

Edit: According to the 247 composite rankings, recruiting has been much better than I thought further magnifying my point of the real issues.

    2019 - 13th
    2018 - 21st
    2017 - 17th
    2016 - 14th
    2015 - 4th
    2014 - 7th

clearly season openers against such lesser opponents doesn't generate a lot of interest.

Agree while the same results, they arrived there for different reasons. The downfall of Nebraska started when the joined the Big XII partially due to the forced stoppage of their "community scholarship" by the Big XII and partly because of 4 of the worse Big 8 teams didn't get invited and were replaced by Texas. That meant 2 or 3 fewer wins and, as was proven, 1 more defeat. Once the downward spiral started even Cheating Tom Osborn could not stop it. On top of all of this, good recruits all of a sudden found out that Lincoln, NE isn't even Manhatten, KS or Norman, OK.

Vol is spot-on on Tennessee's issues. Phat Phil must have pictures on every politician in the state in order not to have been run out of the state by now. Leach would have been to football as Barnes has been to Tennessee basketball.

Despite what the homer announcers would want you to believe, it was all SC could do to beat Fresno. Helton's fate could be decided before October. Right now SC is at best the 5th best team in the PAC-12 behind Oregon, Washington, Washington State and Stanford. Edwards has ASU pushing SC. Maybe Coach Bro will find a place for him on the Cardinal staff (not likely to be a long term staff, but it would give him a chance to pay some bills before the cash flow stops. :confused2:

I believe Fulmer is/was more of a puppet to the administration who was completely beholden to the terrible boosters who demanded certain choices. Honestly I have no idea if he had much real influence on anything or if he was just holding a salaried position. I hope now he will do better with his AD position, but I'm not really confident. Again, we'll see

When I heard Leach was on the board I was excited because while he is controversial he is a really good and intelligent coach. Of course that was $hit canned by the admin after some really shady $hit which really pissed me off. I really believed he might be the bridge back to relevance. I just hope Pruitt can run a clean program until he gets fired for hopefully a coach who can get it done.

And... I think you are wrong

Why did you start at 2014? Let me list the years prior to that

    2013- 21st
    2012- 17th
    2011- 13th

    2013 Team Rankings

You can't be the powerhouse you once were with those classes. Sorry, but that's the truth

Even in (somewhat) recent years prior to that when they had good recruiting years, at least 3 or 4 other sec programs were ranked ahead of them. Again, you're not leap frogging anyone when the best talent is headed elsewhere

Tennessee will no longer be a perennial top ten program. That's my point. Until they can somehow find their way back in, I'm right

Run, you missed the point that Vol was trying to make that Tennessee is in a deep hole. He agreed with you that both are down but disagreed that both teams got there the same way. As I explained there were issues way beyond a coaching failure with Nebraska's fall.

I have not done a review of Nebraska and Tenn. recruiting rankings. I made a statement about talent because what I saw Saturday from tenn. looked like a shortage of talent. To the extent I have a reason to watch Nebraska anymore I would say the same thing, they seem to be outdone by teams that have better talent and often from middle of the B1G.

Agree Dave, but there were off the field and location issues involved in the Nebraska fall that were not present in the Tennessee fall.

I guess you are right but jeez, how did Penn State ever recover from Sandusky and Oklahoma from pretty much everything?

You deflected to a different subject. I started there because that's who is currently on the team. We could go all the way back to Fulmer days if you want, I don't care. What happened to Nebraska with limited scholarships/positions on the team and the elimination of partial qualifiers after joining the Big XII is not what happened in Knoxville. The results may be similar, but I'm debating your comment that what happened to Nebraska is exactly what happened in Knoxville. Not even remotely close.
