So far this offense is a bust. Arizona is playing with some commitment but Sumlin *is* the HC of the opponent. Tech should have more than seven points after 37 minutes.

Down by two TDs with two minutes left, those last four throws were pretty much 'throw it up and see if the wr can outfight the db'. Very little imagination to this offense. They look lost out there.

people out here in west Texas have sure fallen off that coaching bandwagon, even asking for Kliff to come back--calling offensive co-ordinator Yost "Dumber" because of his haircut

Their defense isn’t much to write home about, either. Supposedly it was ranked 16th nationally after the UTEP game, but I expect that it will fall precipitously after last night’s performance.

UA had the ball inside their own 1 with 11 minutes to play. They ran 13 plays, 99 yards, running off 7 minutes and punched in a TD. After stopping Tech, UA ran the ball 5 straight plays and killed the clock. That was 18 straight running plays for 121 yards, and a TD using up over 9 minutes. Tech had no answer to the ground game. Tech's D was gassed when they came off the field in the second half. If we have all our RBs healthy, we should be able to run the ball and go through the TT D like a hot knife through butter.

Even JT King's offenses were better. Arizona is a really bad team with a bus driver for a coach. They have the opportunity to be the worst team in the worst P5 conference.

The people of The High Plains deserve better.

I will disagree and say TTU has better than they deserve in coaches since they dumped KK and Leach and hired Tuberville.

John Scovell (Hillcrest), Tom Wilson, Kenny Baker, Donny Anderson.... Pretty good teams back then. Top ten going into the finale in Fayetteville in 1965 iirc. My brother was a freshman there that year. That was the first I'd heard of the horrors of traveling to Arkansas for a football game. I was in grade school then but remembered that season. Games on radio, going to one live. After that season it went in a steady decline. They had it going on in the mid 60s, in basketball as well.

The Anderson brothers (4 of them I think) lived a block down the street from my parents. In the early 60s Donnie's dad got a "great job" in Stinnett and they moved to the panhandle. Still Donnie came back every summer to visit his uncles including after he signed with the Packers.

In three varsity games against Texas, Donnie gained a total of 21 yards.

Really a good guy and kind of shy.

I don't remember Tech ever being ranked in the Top 10 in 1965, or anytime before Leach except maybe in 1968 when they made that fateful November trip to Waco.

I've always believed that hotel maid should have been given full scholarships for her kids and maybe a statue on the mall.

I had to look it up on football.reference.com, tech was ranked #9, hawgs were #2... I remember because my brother called my dad to tell him they were a top ten team. It was a big deal going into that game... Arkansas blew them out. Donnie had a bad knee his sr year, wasn't the same hoss he was in his two previous years.

My brother and some classmates made the trip, every car with a tech sticker was keyed.

I went to some of the basketball games they had that year,,we lived in Dallas at the time. Dub Malaise, Norm Reuther etc... Was a very good team.

    Sabre,
I had to look it up...Tech was also ranked in the top ten in 76,77. They were ranked as high as fifth in 76 before the cougar high game. They were ranked 7th or so before Rodney Allison was injured the next year.

Just imho... Allison might have been the conference's best qb. He and Slick were my favorites, it would be hard for me to pick the best of the two. Both were magic

Baugh, Meyer, Layne were before my time. My dad said Meredith and Benners were his picks back in the day. Trull was a great one. That's the first UT game I remember sweating out on tv. He and Elkins were hell to stop.

Fwiw, if tommy dunivan didn't suffer an injury Rodney Allison would have been buried on the bench and never heard of. To me, the mid 70s was the swc's finest era.

Everyone remembers Duke Carlisle intercepting Trull in the 63 game to save the 7-0 victory, but not many remember an earlier play where Elkins got behind the Texas secondary and was running free, but as Trull cranked up, he got blindsided by Scott Appleton and the ball never reached its target.

Tech really missed out not taking Les Miles when he was available.
