The most important goal is to be completely healed. A recurrence would be a very tough and much longer recovery.

Unless he's switching to CB, I see no reason to risk re-injury against ou.

At this point I don't care if he sits the rest of the year.
He will be special and needs to heal 100%.

I'm not an NFL talent evaluator, but I don't think there is any benefit to redshirting this special talent. We should be really thankful if he stays on campus through 4 football seasons.

I just wonder how game ready he can be at this point.
Not just physically, but mentally. For OU.

I am sure he's been studying hard, but nothing gets you prepped for live action than practicing with live ammo.

We need him, but maybe not if he's less than 90%

My first thought when this injury re-emerged was...sit him, rehab him, practice him. .work him in 3 more games later in season then RS and come back ready next year. Too valuable of a talent to rush back and risk further injury, but, hey...they have the med team, so hopefully they know....

I trust Herman and the staff’s judgment on his recovery. We are not privy to the extent of the problem and exactly what surgical steps were taken. For example — and this is simply speculation, but what if the issue was scar tissue from his initial surgery? While I don’t know for sure, I suspect that the level of expertise the doctor in Philly possesses might be light years beyond that of the surgeon who did the initial work. So
maybe JW will be “ready” much sooner than most of us thought.

All that said, I’m personally not prepared to anoint Whittington as the second coming. His high school numbers were off the charts......but so were those of Johnathan Gray. Just saying.

Like everyone else, I have very high hopes. We’ll see...

Honestly, I'd love to have him back, but we don't necessarily need him. With Roshon and Ingram, we are doing fine. In order to beat blOwU. All we really need is to be efficient on offense and get a few stops on defense. We do that and we will beat them.

I'm not convinced they are much better than Okie Lite. They have played no one, and when we get to Dallas they will be the second best team we will have faced and we will be by far the best they have faced.

The problem we will have to face is the same problem we faced in the Big 12 title game. They are ranked in the top 5, undefeated, a Heisman candidate, and are the favorite to make the play-offs for the Big 12; while we have a loss to the probable number 2 or 3 team in the SEC. That is the biggest hurdle we will have......The same problems we had in Arlington last December.

@dukesteer, it is not possible that the Godfather of this surgery in Philly could know more than Hornfans on whether or not he is okay to play.

so they were heavy favorites in Dallas a year ago too. So maybe they face the same problems as they did a year ago too in facing us.

Last year, their D-line occasionally made plays to slow us down. That is not happening this year with our OL. Also, like the Georgia game, the Cal transfer RB played big. We need Ingram to step up like last week.

Who cares who is favored? Seriously, they are untested because they haven't played anyone. Maybe they beat us, maybe we beat them. Football is easy when you play a bunch of reject teams, and that is exactly what they have faced all year. We on the other hand have played against 3 really good offenses and one really really good defense.

It still comes down to matchups and I still like our chances, as of right now, their offense is on par with LSU, but their defense is on par with OSU...maybe. It's all conjecture because all they have faced is reject teams.

You can bet one thing, because of our respective schedules, Texas is going into Dallas much more battle tested.

I can almost guarantee that if Texas beats blOwU, we will virtually swap spots in the polls.

Has that doctor reexamined him since the surgery? And if so, when?

You think they will stay ahead of us in the polls? Texas only loss was by a couple plays to LSU who is a top 5 team and a win over blOwU who is a top 6 team. I'd say it's going to let us jump a few teams that are ranked ahead of us.

Not that any of this matters. Texas is eventually going to move up in the polls as the teams ahead of us lose games. I'm confident we aren't losing more than one more game the rest of the regular season. We might not make the playoffs, but I like our chances of winning the conference.

I will say again, we could finish the regular season with only one loss and still not make the playoffs. We need help from other teams to make the playoffs. SEC champ needs to be undefeated and we need the #2 team in the SEC west to have 2 losses.

I know that unless Clemson gets beat they are in, and I just don't see them getting beat in that weak conference. Same with tOSU. Right now, as I see it, the teams with the best shot at a playoff spot are: Bama, Clemson, LSU, tOSU, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Texas. We control our destiny with blOwU, but we need help with the other 6. This is why I say, win the conference and let everything else sort itself out.

No, I do not think we will exchange places in the poll. We will move up, but not as high as they were. They will fall, but probably not past our ranking going in.

It is all conjecture now, so let us wait until after the game to see how it shakes out. Remember, the voters have it fixed in their mind we are not as good as LSU.

Anything can happen. Needed help and got it in 2008. Beat #1 Ou and went to #1.

The $EC teams will stay where they are until they lose, and after they lose will only fall a couple spots, so they will have the strength of schedule card for the committee to select them over other deserving teams for the ESPN Invitational...er...play-offs.

A_B, agree with this. At this point in the season, everyone should agree that the PAC-12 has no shot. Unfortunately, the $EC West #2 (LSU) could very well only have one loss (Alabama) which would pit LSU and a one-loss Texas fighting for the 4th slot. We all know who will get that. The better scenario would be either the Sons of Clem or tOSU to lose a game to a team with a losing record.

What I am afraid of is as at some point in this season the Texas offense is going to have a full game of being off and/or multiple coaching brainfarts are going to cost Texas in the form of another loss.

    Let’s talk about ceilings...

Our offense is very good and while I think that it can and will get even better, we are already most of the way there IMO. The area we need to improve is the running game.

I see the growth potential on the other side of the ball where, on D, we have a higher ceiling than perhaps teams like LSU and others. In other words, the D Burrow faced on 9/7 and the one Hurts will face on 10/12 may be quite different. I suspect so.

My point is that if our young talent on that side of the ball continues to evolve, I believe that Texas will be perceived differently by the voters.

We’ll see how far we’ve come in two weeks. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

The D really improved in the OSU game. They just have to keep improving and get the injured talent back. We could be very close after the CCG. Unless we drop one. I still don’t think we lose to OU. A loss will potentially come from Baylor or ISU. TCU is also a concern. But I hope Texas can play 1-0 each of those road tests. I can see us getting close to the CFP in the end. Too many variables right now to predict. We just can’t lose another game.
