Bottom line is they were more physical and played with more effort than we did. Note that I didn't say we weren't physical or lacked effort at all. ou just did both at a much higher level for the majority of the game, particularly on the LOS.

And I think the entire offense was rattled by the ou defense. When I saw Sam and Keontay basically going back and forth at each other in the huddle and on the sideline, I knew we were not in a good place.

I also noticed that after those discussions/arguments/whatever that Keontay didn't come back in the game and it was Roschon all the way.

Just to be clear on the facts.....
    1. Saban won a NC in yr 4 at LSU & an SEC title in yr 2
    2. Saban won a NC at Bama in yr 3...and has an unprecedented run since
    3. Dabo won a conference title in yr 4 & 2 NC’s in yrs 9 & 11...in yrs 4-11 he has 5 conference titles and 2 NC’s

Totally agree it’s too early. But, in no way can Herman can be compared to Saban....and he is not alone. Maybe he can achieve Dabo fame....we shall see after next season. If so, he’ll deserve to be on Longhorns Mount Rushmore. I hope I’m still alive to see that!

Ingram seems to a head case. I'm glad we have Bijan next year.

Not sure how my criticism of Ehlinger “early last year” has anything to do with what we saw today. (I have since praised him effusively, and conceded that I was mistaken.)

Their D dominated our offense. That was the single biggest story today. We did not have any injury issues on that side of the ball so the observation about being banged up and playing underclassmen everywhere does not apply.

On D, yes, we have had attrition. But perhaps the single biggest event today was the ejection of Roach. Stupid play, and by a captain. After that we had no run D.

Some of Saban’s is luck..... he was prepared and took advantage of it but some was luck....

Its impossible to say for sure, but here are a few thoughts: We are playing a lot of younger guys who have not had the chance to bulk up, get bigger and stronger. When most of your starters are Sophs and juniors you are likely playing guys that still have some pounds to gain--muscle.

Also, I read an article a couple of years ago stating that Herman's Houston teams led the NCAA in concussions, implying that the practices were too physical, banging kids up. Thus they never had enough time to heal between games. I don't know if this is true or not. Sometimes teams just have bad luck.
Sam took serious beatings his freshman and soph year. But what could TH do? He didn't think Shane won the job.
Sam has the heart and body of a linebacker. I wish he didn't have to run so much, but he made two td's today. Who can argue with that?
RJ should share carries with all the backs. If he's carrying 20+ times a game, as a true freshman, he's going to get hurt.

BTW, I thought Sam played well. Good enough to win. He held the ball too long a few times but their D dominated. And yes he missed a pass or two, but there were also a few drops on perfect passes.

Unless Sam was doing a poor job of seeing the field, for my eyes he played quite well. He just didn’t get much help from the O-Line, the receivers, and from the play-calling.

Agree^^^. This not only surprised me, it shocked me. Yet, somehow, due to OUR D bending but not breaking most of the time, we only lost by seven.

I think Beck and TH need to look in the mirror and figure out a better, more deceptive way to run the ball. Take a hint from ou, use a two back motion run game.

Agree, perhaps when J Whit comes back. I’m worried about Ingram. He has head case issues? Not sure what’s going on there. He needs to play better. He hasn’t shown up in two games straight.

Yeah, he hasn't broken a run like RJ has. But to be fair, RJ wasn't touched on the long run until he was well down the field. He had a big hole on the right side of the line. Ingram hasn't seen a hole like that in a few games.
But to my point about the repetitive, predictable run game TH and Beck use: when was the last time one of our backs has beat the defenders to the edge? We do not have a sweep play.

OU's sweep beat our guys all day. Why? Because its quick, deceptive and they know how to block it.

OU's running backs are not better than ours. Where is Kirk J? He is the fastest RB to the hole we have. Where is Daniel Young? He hits the hole (if there is one) harder than anyone we have.
RJ has a bit of it all. But not enough to be the anointed one. Its the scheme. None of these guys are Ricky or Earl. Even Earl was held back by DKR's scheme. It took Fred Akers abandoning the wishbone before Earl blossomed.

was unable to be online during the game ... so apologies for the inevitable repetitions ...

oU's defense was MUCH improved from last year's. However it was distinctly aided in the entire first half by their 13th man - our play caller ... and whomever failed to tell Duvernay to knock it off with the attempted KO returns. the stupid rule favors the offense, let's just take it there and go.

Save for a couple obvious gashes, which have been stated by Orlando would happen once/twice per game, the D played well enough overall ... even after losing Roach.

HOW BOW DICKER! iced 3 consecutive times, and kicked one ... kicked another for the points.

too many dropped passes ... and too many breakdowns in pass protection, despite oU's improved defense.

Liking Roshan Johnson more each week. Ingram better up his game quick.

Anyhow. made an honest game of it despite our mistakes and faced the best QB we'll face all year.

    HOOK 'EM!

D line got destroyed, Shack got ran over most of the day, Rojo is rb1 from here on out. DB’s can’t tackle, welcome back CJ ( meet his mom and dad and Dickers also while we waited for the team bus to arrive this morning ). Orlando seems to have lost his groove and I really hope that wasn’t Herman calling plays today because they didn’t seem to find a rhythm at all.

I thought Burrows and LSU were the best QB and offenses we would face. too bad the offense we had against LSU didn't show up today.

Luck?!? Maybe so...luck is an element in every successful organization or endeavor. Was Mack Brown lucky? Was Darell Royal lucky? Was Bear Bryant lucky? And does luck continue to contribute to Saban’s 146-21 record at Bama? Maybe so....just sayin’!

luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

you know the opportunity is coming on the schedule ... so it must be preparation.

So, does anyone else think Sam was very timid in the run game and lacked his usual mobility? We heard of a rib injury. Wonder if that was hampering him.

We’ve waited 20 games to see Ingram emerge. I don’t think it’s going to happen. Roschon Johnson is clearly the better back and he needs to be getting the majority of the carries. I’m tired of feeling badly for Ingram. He is what he is, and it’s not what we had hoped. If he’s a head case, sit him down. And if he wants to later put his name in the Portal, so be it.

I have nothing against Ingram but I am tired of the excuses.

I’ve watched Sam for three years. As most of us have. Surely he is playing hurt because the last two games he has not looked as sharp as before. I think he is playing at 60% to 80% healthy right now.
I’m no Dr or Coach but I know Sam’s game well.

I don’t know. No interceptions. No fumbles. Two running TDs. Under pressure much of the day. Nine sacks. More than one drop on perfect passes: Jake Smith & CJ to name two.

For someone who is supposedly hurt, I thought he played one heck of a game.

For me, even the aggy loss today to #1 Bama will not assuage the Horns loss to the lowly sooners...
