Wow. I'm 99% sure Wake Forest recovered that onside kick. Louisville got very lucky it wasn't reversed to Wake.

Steve Ensminger is not a 1st year OC and Kyle Trask is not a RS freshman.

I did not look up the OC until just now. The way I had heard it touted before and during the Texas game was that he was in his first season as the OC at LSU and installed a completely new pro-style offense. Texas is in its 3rd year with beck under the same scheme and it sucked yesterday. That was my point.

I see now Trask is a redshirt junior. I must have just flat out heard them wrong in the broadcast. I thought I heard redshirt freshman. I was mistaken.

Well then, I guess ‘our’ Robinson might still be available to help out our D as a consultant (or even a ‘silent’ Co-D coordinator). Just a thought...

Although he’s a real LB guru and LBs don’t seem to be our problem.

My (slightly opinionated) recap of the finals in some of the other games:

    Boise St. 59
    Hawaii 37
Darn. I don't care much for Boise St, and am looking forward for someone to knock this pretender from its lofty perch.

    AZ St. 38
    Washington St 34
The pirate ship isn't in flames yet, but it's sails are tattered and its bulkheads have noticeable damage. Look for plenty of unpredictable, off-the-rails comments by Leach in the near future (no surprise there). Despite prevailing opinions, I still like this guy.

    Temple 30
    #23 Memphis 28
This just goes to show that SMU ("Dallas" on some Saturdays) has a long, treacherous road to travel with trap games everywhere. SMU gets its "Owl" game next week--not against Rice, but against these Temple Owls.

    Oregon 45
    Colorado 3
Oregon making their case. They should nickname this matchup (CU v. O) as the "pot bowl" or something... UW v. O should be a good one next week.

    Michigan 42
    Illinois 25
More of a statement on how sorry U of I is than how good Big Blue is this year. I like Michigan, but the luster is off Big Blue after their severe Wisconsin beat down. It will take wins over Penn St. and aOSU to restore the luster to Michigan. While I would like to see that, I'm afraid that ain't gonna happen this year.

    Louisville 62
    #19 Wake F. 59
Another undefeated pretender goes down. (SMU should be moving into the top 20 now).

    Charlie 27
    BYU 23
Charlie surprises with a close win at home. Charlie's troops just "played harder" in this game. Still, nobody was watching (mostly empty stands). It's tough to coach at a commuter school.

    W. Kentucky 17
    Army 8
    Didn't see that one coming...

    Navy (4-1) 45
    Tulsa 17
Navy is quietly putting together a good season, and may even get some consideration in Top 25 polls. The Middies could be one of SMU's toughest tests. They should also win the CIC award. Of course, Army v. Navy is the classic rivalry game of all classic rivalry games, so you never know.

    Washington 51
    Arizona 27
The Dogs put AZ in its place. UW vs. O next week should make for an entertaining watch and an important piece of the PAC 12 North race.

Chop, the difference with Temple is that they are a jeckyl and hyde sort of team...and the difference is most notable when they travel. I expect to see SMU/Dallas post a W in that one...

As to the Pirate...he has made it clear after the epic collapse a few weeks ago that MAJOR changes were needed on defense. Clearly one week was not enough to right the ship with a new coordinator (I believe the earlier one is gone).

LB is one of our problems.. They are TOO SLOW for this defensive scheme...That LB we had last year was FAST and saved us many many times because he was all over the field... This year we don't have anyone like that.

    10/19

There's a decent slate of games today:

Oregon v. Washington--a big showdown out West. Anything can happen in the PAC 12 conference. Oregon has an uncharacteristically tough defense and has been playing well. Oregon will be favored, but I'm taking the Dogs.

Michigan v. Penn St.--a classic battle of good vs. evil up North. Harbaugh really needs a big win. An inconsistent Big Blue will have their hands full with a rough Penn St. team that has shown well pretty much all season. I want Michigan, but wouldn't put any $ on it.

Iowa St. v. Texas Tech--an interesting test for Tech's new coach Wells. Wells and his Raiders will face a good (but not that good) solid team that's not the pass happy typical Big 12 opponent. Tech is up and down, but very dangerous. ISU is there some weeks and gone the next. I'm taking Tech.

TCU v. Kansas St.--look for a hard fought and hard hitting battle between these so-so 3-2 teams. Since Snyder's been gone, Patterson has the upper hand with in-game coaching. TCU has more firepower also. Frogs jump all over them.

Baylor v. Okla St.--this should be a very interesting offensive shoot out. Undefeated 6-0 Baylor takes their show into Stillwater. While Baylor is a dangerous trap game for anyone, don't be too fooled by Baylor's' 6-0 record. They haven't beaten anyone that good and just barely survived against ISU and Tech. They beat Rice by 8 points. Both teams can light up the score board. Home filed advantage to OSU. Chuba Hubbard runs wild. Cowboys with the upset.

Ariz v. USC--Zona is showing some life, but USC out matches and way out-talents the Cats in L.A. USC showed very tough against top-10 Notre Dame. Although nobody gave me the authority to do this--I'm "officially" pronouncing that USC has removed itself from the dumpster fire they've been in. They have massive latent raw talent onboard after years of stellar recruiting. It's still a ways back to the top for the Trojans though... USC for the win today.

Temple v. SMU--SMU gets their "Owl" game this year, and it's not against Rice. The home field advantage, and Shane's passing put the Ponies over a decent Temple team.

aTm v. Ole Miss--a battle between two middle-of-the-pack also rans down South. Sounds familiar for aTm. Mond and the ags' inept offense can't get things going again, this time against a very so-so Rebel D. Rebels win. Ags meltdown further (I'll have to start posting You Tube videos of the Chernobyl show so you can see the level of melt down we're talking about).

Charlie v. Navy--Charlie surprised last week. He won't here against a good and well-coached Navy team. Navy with the W.

Ariz St. v. Utah--ASU is here one week (wins over Cal and Mich. St.) and gone the next (loss to Colorado and narrow win over Sacramento St). Youts have a narrow loss to USC and an otherwise perfect record. Go with Da' Youts at home today.

Florida v. South Carolina--Florida with a tough win. UF will likely drop another few games and was clearly a pretender as an undefeated. Today won't be one of their losses though.

Auburn v. Arkansas--A typical boring SEC slugfest. Auburn pushes them around in the trenches and gets the win.

LSU v. Miss St--Look for a thorough Southern butt-whoopin' here folks. LSU by 3-4 TDs +

And the very late game: Air Force v. Hawaii-- Go Bows. Flip a coin with these two pretty good, but inconsistent 4-2 teams. I'll take Hawaii, but without much conviction. It should be entertaining, and it's all that's left at that time of night if you haven't got enough college football for one day.

    Your usual good analysis Chop.
    Today's meteorite game.
Upset only for those fans in Waco.
Actually a trap game for SMU (@ Cougar "we give up" High next Thursday will not be the test everyone tough it would be at the start of the season. 02 November @ Memphis will be the real test for the Ponies.
Anyone who bets on this game should really be put away for their own protection. Either or both of these two teams a) could play a decent game, or b) produce absolute suckage. What is known is that that aggy will claim victory regardless of the outcome based on the fact that they were able to score on both Clemson and Alabama. $EC $EC $EC baby!
You just sent HornHusker Dad off the edge of the cliff. The Army Air Corps played a good game last week so this one could actually be the most entertaining of today's slate. (No ouBubba ou trashing WVa in Norman will not be a game to watch - even if anyone actually thinks WVa has a shot.)

I'm not even standing on the edge of the cliff, Viper. :smile1: Hawaii has a decent team. USAFA has been pretty good, but has come up short in some big games. For USAFA to win, they will need to (a) control the clock with the running game and (b) score on nearly every drive. Teams that don't face the wishbone/flexbone often usually have some difficulty stopping that running attack. Not sure USAFA defense can stop the Rainbows - best hope for my Falcons is to grind it out and keep the Hawaii offense off the field. I'd love to see my Falcons win - but I'm not betting the mortgage on it.

TD So Car. Long run up the gut.

    So Car 17
    Florida 10.

Didn’t see this one coming, but I’d like UF to go down again. Rainy day in Columbia, SC.

Now a long run down the left sideline for a TD on a little inside pull/trap play by UF.

    Tied up at 17.

So Car knocking on the door again.
