Seems like we have been complaining about assistants for awhile (Brown to Strong to now).
It's not talent, we recruit well
And it's not pay, we pay well

Actually, it depends on far apart the teams are. If the teams are extremely unevenly matched (generally Colorado or Missouri in the 2000s for the most part), then it really does not matter. However, if a team is not significantly better, the rematch favors the loser of the first game. My best example is 2011 LSU. 2011 LSU was the best team in the country (and in my opinion still has the overall better resume than 2011 Alabama and should still have been the national champs after the two teams split the series). However, 2011 LSU was only slightly better than 2011 Alabama and Alabama easily won the rematch.

The Big 12 #1 and #2 rematching every year is going to be a lot more evenly matched and will produce far more rematch upsets than the Big 12 South v. Big 12 North where many times the Big 12 North team was far and away overmatched.

If Texas and OU had replayed each other for the Big 12 title in the 2000s, the loser of round one would have come away with a lot more victories than Colorado or Missouri did.

OU shortsightedly pushed for this rematch title game thinking it would be like playing Colorado and Missouri in the 2000s. The first game against TCU was like that. However, at no point, were Colorado and Missouri the second best team in the Big 12 in the 2000s. Rematching #1 v. #2 is not like that at all and will produce far more rematch upsets/hurt the Big 12's playoff changes in the long run.

I am not saying Texas wins this rematch this year. However, excluding outside factors like either team having injures, etc, I would say Texas has a far better shot in the rematch than it did in the cotton bowl in October just like OU had a far better shot last year in the rematch than it did in the cotton bowl last October.

The way Beck can recruit I'm afraid we're stuck with him. Getting a new passing coordinator would probably work though.

Disagree. You are either forgetting or ignoring how good those 4 teams were. Here is the the Post-bowl rankings of each team in question:

    - 2000 KSU #8/9
    - 2002 Colorado #20/21
    - 2007 Missouri #4/5
    - 2017 TCU #9/9

Only the 2002 Colorado team fits your description/memory. The other 3 occurrences were Top 5 or Top 10 teams. Those KSU, MU, & TCU squads were outstanding teams. Keep in mind how hard it is to be ranked that highly when 2 losses are to one team.

Examples like 2011 LSU/Bama just show that when 2 evenly matched teams play, the game is usually a toss-up. Sometimes the same team will win, sometimes the other team will win. Losing the first game doesn’t provide an advantage.

I do agree that Bama should have never been in that game. They had their shot at LSU & lost at home. OSU should have got a shot at LSU. OSU’s only loss was on the road on short week a day after a terrible tragedy struck their athletic department.

OU is the overall better program because their program sells out for football. They don't give a damn about anything else.

Texas is trying to be a jack of all trades. Sure, we want to be good at football but we wont sacrifice other priorities to be good at it like OU will. Texas is trying to maintain itself as an elite academic university. OU doesn't give a damn about that stuff.

And the results speak for themselves. We won't ever be the same football factory that OU will. However we have the better university by far. I'll take that.

At this point, I don't assume Horns win 6 in a row to go 10-2. ISU will be a tough road game and @ Bailer concerns me more. Bearz and QB Brewer are playing well, gave us trouble last season and will be fired up for the Horns.

Got to take em one at a time...

Baylor still hasn't play anyone, but they have found a way to win. Baylor hosts ou the week before Texas so the will be coming off that hide tanning.

Everyone will be up for us. As if they didn’t need any impetus seeing how OU handled us will inspire them all. Baylor, even TT will he fired up. For TT may be their whole season, as it has in the past. Heck, might be the same for TCU as things are going for them so far.

Wow, watching replay now, when Sam makes that flip and gets called for grounding #6 on defense rips Eagles by the face mask. Literally flips him around right at the line of scrimmage - of course completely missed. Second qtr 5:12 mark if interested.

Wow, hard to believe Sam couldn’t see that safety blitzing from way back there on the next play.

Oh my, what a difference tv vs being there. Watching now I see how we had this game when we tied it up. Then, we started to NOT tackle and play calling went to s***.
In first half that pass to White was right on, he should have caught it. Some others, though not nearly enough, deep balls were off - too short - but that one was on the money. Maybe Jake will get more aggressive but he should have had it.
I still say they should have thrown it more often to CJ. But I feel a whole more like we could have won. Also Malcom, have to say it, had he just kept his head up, he could have played the rest of game. The jerk Lamb going to the ground screwed him but he should have kept head up!

Although I did like Shane a lot I admit, I’ll never make that disparaging remark about Sam.

Well d***, Eagles on another one he should have caught. What a difference that would have made. This is the throw from end zone by Sam in 3rd. Crap, again I say, missed tackles, that’s what did it. The few times we did an all out blitz were effective. But to require an all out blitz for pressure says a lot.

No, what really happened is that the refs started screwing us over. They missed 19 holding penalties on OU during that game. They also missed a few other miscellaneous calls like defensive holding, pass interference, facemask, etc

The refs were paid off by OU, plain and simple.

We don't have to win out. We have tie break on OSU who I still think is 2nd best team. They had 5 turnovers against tech. That'll kill you every time. Baylor will lose 2 for sure. Look at their schedule. Probably 3. We can drop one and we're still playing in the CCG. I'd bet a lot of money on that.

Watch that Eagles play again. One arm was hooked by the DB and he tried to catch it one handed. You're right about the pressure. Our defensive ends are not good pass rushers and this might be a problem for the rest of this year and next.

Also he coaches and develops QB rather well. Kneejerk fan reactions are not what the program needs to follow.

Roach getting kicked out of the game didn't help. We needed our Sr.s to step up, but that didn't happen. Least the next half is against Kansas. Hopefully we come out fired up, get ahead, and give Sam some time off.

Klatt is good breaking down this game. Fair analysis. He is generally positive toward the Horns despite VY and team killing Colorado x 2 in 2005. Even closed by calling it his fav rivalry game in college football.

That's what I love about this place! You could call holding on every play. Also, I was impressed with the OU defense in that they're pushing the envelope and getting a few PI calls. I always say in basketball if you don't have a moving screen call or two in the game you're not pushing the envelope. This Grinch defense was a nice change.

Getting favorable calls that the Big12 later admits were wrong have ALSO benefited Bailor. Saw this morning that the illegal snap was improperly called and is something that contributed to the Tceh loss...

I don't agree with the ou defense shut down the Texas running game. How can you say that when the RB's averaged over 10ypc? It may look that way with a quick look at the stats, but that's a shallow analysis. Yards lost on sacks are part of the passing game, not the running game.
