    2016: Texas 11th; OU 16th
    2017: Texas 31st; OU 7th
    2018: Texas 4th; OU 8th

    AVG: Texas 15th; OU 10th

That's who is out on the field dominating.

Oh yeah two Heisman winners and NFL starters. We have Colt.

Last two were 2018 and 2019, the latter of which you completely omitted. 2017 was a quickly put together filler class which has exceeded expectations by a longshot. In case you forget, Herman was at UH in 2016. So try again.

2020 has not been signed but presently is second only to 'Bama in total 4 & 5 Star commits.

We are getting contributions from the 2019 class, but OU's big advantage was the play of 4-5 guys who will go in the. first 3 rounds of the 2020 NFL draft and some 2018 DL and LBs that Texas recruited very hard and didn't get.

The two new classes aren’t going to dominate like upper class men do. Throw in jalen Hurts and there’s even more experience. Recruits from 2018 / 2019 are not starting/dominating.

If you go to 247, they have a team calculator, it basically shows everyone on the team and their recruiting rankings. It looks like this.

    1. Bama
    2. tOSU
    3. UGA
    4. USC west
    5. LSU
    6. FSU
    7. Texas
    8. blOwU
    9. Clemson

There is no talent advantage for either team, we are basically even except for coaching and development. We are a team of freshmen and sophomores, especially on defense. And it shows every week.

Oh I think that year we had the 31st best class screams mediocrity.

We’re a year or two away. Not deep enough. Good player goes down next up is not performing.

    Can take off Bunkley-Shelton
    He is not coming
His replacement might be Carthage ATH Kelvontay Dixon (Pig commit) - he can play either “Z” or “H” for us

But I was right in my comment. We have out recruited ok 3 out of the last four years. So they don't have a lot more better athletes. We need better coaches to make better schemes to make more wins.:deadhorse:

aggy Perroni on the visit there of Alfred Collins

Collins has been to (aggy) a lot and is comfortable in (aggy)land, but I still think the longtime Texas ties are going to be too much to overcome. His last official is to Texas this coming weekend and then he will work on making a decision.

    later response to Q&A--
Jimbo spent a lot of time with him and made a push, but yeah, I don't think he ends up at (aggy), so you are probably correct.

I should have made the point at the time but I think I figured that people reading the recruiting thread would already know. And that point is that, in the near future, all of these OL spots^ will be filled by some combination of high-4 and 5-star recruits. Right now we are starting four 3-stars and a redshirt freshman 4-star.

But back to the debate, Mack Brown went 6-9 head-up vs. stoops and that includes 2013 when Mack beat both Stoops and Snyder who appeared to conspire in a reprehensible effort to save Mack's job (Like Stoops, Snyder had a winning head-up vs. Brown).

    Brown v. Stoops
    1999 38-28
    2000 14-63
    2001 3-14
    2002 24-35
    2003 13-65
    2004 0-12
    2005 45-12
    2006 28-10
    2007 21-28
    2008 45-35
    2009 16-13
    2010 20-28
    2011 17-55
    2012 21-63
    2013 36-20
I highlighted the ones that still hurt to think about.

I can tell by reading some of the posts on this thread that, even after all this time, not everyone agrees on our past. My memory and perception is that Mack Brown and his assistants, other than perhaps the first matchup, never again outcoached or outsmarted Stoops and his assistants. We finally just overloaded our teams with so much high 4-star and 5-star talent that we could beat them by out-talenting them. But, if all things were equal, they were going to outsmart/outcoach us every time.

The point above was that the Herman vs. Riley matchup is beginning to look like déjà vu. It doesnt have to go that way, but it already feels like the same thing is happening.

I don't get that feeling at all.

    1. We have probably the best S&C coach in college football. We have great assistant coaches all around.

The fact is OU has probably the best offensive mind in college football in Riley, but their other coaches aren't superior to what we have at Texas. I will give them credit for one thing. They are willing to do whatever it takes to win, including cheating. Until we are willing to sink down to their level, we are going to have to just out talent them in order to beat them.

Football is #1 in their priorities, this isn't the case at Texas.

Actually, it screams new coaching regime. Look and see how many of those guys have started and continue to start. It might have been a short class, but Herman exhibited excellent evaluation skills in a short time.

May I suggest the 2017 Recruiting thread if you want to discuss this in depth?

This thread is for the incoming 2020 class.

I think that is a recollection 16 years too far in the past. Herman was sobered by how badly the coaches performed this year, including himself. It will improve, stat.

This century, our record vs ou is 7-14 (is the year 2000 part of this century? I said yes). In addition, we have 2 Big 12 titles while ou has 12

You do not see parallels in the way Stoops outcoached Mack Brown to the way Riley is outcoaching Herman?

I think you are in the minority on this. Havent you at least been skeptical of the performance of our secondary since the start of the year? Dont you see regression among key starters? What about the defensive scheming overall?

Which is another way of saying they outsmarted/outcoached us, which is what I wrote.

If not head-up record (we are now 1-3 v ou), which metric do you think is better for that comparison?

I think our football program should be about this too.

On the cheating, if you mean off-the-field, then this is why I give Royal/Akers a pass head-to-head against Switzer who may have been the biggest cheater in NCAA history. It's tough to compete fairly against that if you are trying to run a clean program. But, IMO at least, that part has been level from Mack Brown forward. So, not the same excuse.

If you mean on-the-field cheating, like what Riley does. I am not sure what to do about that. If there is any certainty in life, it is that the Longhorns will never get any level of fairness and understanding from Big 12 refs. So, we are unable to appeal to them. And quite frankly, I suspect that if we stooped to their level and played the exact same way Riley-coached teams do, Big 12 refs would be flagging us right and left. It's how they roll. So, that is a bit of a quandary. In that Scipio article I posted in the ou thread, he had ideas about how to play against it. I dont have any better ideas than that. And it doesnt appear our coaches even had this much going for them.

If you look back at the Top 6 players in the state in 2017 and compare to the 2020 NFL mock drafts on the interwbes...247 and walter football, etc...
DT Marvin Wilson (2nd-3rd round walter football)
CB Jeffrey Okudah (#6 pick walter football)
OT Walker Little (#9 pick walter football)
LB Baron Browning (top 5 Lb prospect draftnetwork)
    LB K'Lavon Chaisson (#23 pick 247)
RB JK Dobbins (#9 RB CBS draft watch)

2018 was great for us, but the truth is that had we recruited better in 2017, we'd be sitting really pretty right now.
