My step-dad grew up a UT fan. He tells us how, while very young, his mom would never miss a UT football game on the radio. Many of my aunts and uncles became huge UT fans as well. He's never been to a game in Austin, but my brother and I surprised him with tickets to the ksu game. He's nearing 80, but is still quite spry. Any suggestions/recommendations for local eateries and gear shops we can hit up while there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Scholz Garden is a long-time classic near the stadium with a very nice outdoor area. Great atmosphere and a short walk to DKR. Scholz Garten University Co-Op is your Longhorn gear spot. It’s on Guadalupe (“The Drag”) right across the street from campus at the West Mall. If a Bevo logo can be put on it, they have it. Fun place to shop. Co-op for gear no doubt. Scholtz is great game day as stated but unsure of walking distance for Dad. Wife and I used to walk from a bit farther - free parking at Capital off San Jacinto - and walk has gotten to be a challenge over the years. You’ll get a lot of opinions about food on here regardless of food preference. All I’ll throw in is we love the mixed fajitas at Polvos on first. Best anywhere, IMO. And enjoy Bevo Blvd. quite a change from the old days! Enjoy your trip! My brother and I did this for Dad around gosh 20 years ago I guess. It was fantastic even with though we hard crummy weather. Hookem.
You'll make some great memories for your Dad, you and your brother. I 2nd the recommendation you visit Scholtz's & The University Co-Op on Guadalupe. If your going to the Co-Op pre or post game (kickoff is at 2:30), you need to allow some extra time for that as finding a parking spot will be a bit challenging. Plus, the store is large but there will be a LOT of people shopping / buying - with long lines to the cashiers. In the meantime, I hope your Dad gets to celebrate a Horn victory with his 2 sons!
