What is more pressing, fixing the O or fixing the D?

Right now I'm leaning towards the D. I'm guessing that the real question is who is a must fire, Beck or Orlando, you can only pick one.

IMO, Fix the D, we have won in the past with a stout D and questionable O, but I don't think we have ever won with a ****** D and a Great O.

You can only pick one of them.

What ? Hell, the defense has held the last two opponents well below their season average. ISU and Baylor were putting up 40+ and our defense ( with absolutely no help from the offense ) held them to 24 points. What has the offense done ?
This is the Big 12....You can't win with defense and a bad offense, but you can win with a great offense and poor defense...See OU 2018 !!!!!! and OU 2019 !!!!!!

Are you kidding, with our talent we should have held them under 15 pts each, we are still incredibly talented compared to those two teams, there is no reason to be playing on either side of the ball this badly. But I get what you are saying.

Something has to get fixed, I'm hoping we get both sides fixed.

Pay sites are now saying our BMDs are putting together a money package to either get the best coordinators in the business or buy out TH completely.

Dabo might just become the first guy to reach 10 mil a year.

The honeymoon is over for TH and this fanbase is beyond fed up. I’m glad we have BMDs who can make things happen.

Here is a bit of speculation.

USC really wanted Bijan Robinson, and since they are about to fire Clay Helton, there is a strong possibility that they go after Tom Herman in an effort to bring in some of his recruits including Bijan Robinson. They keep Harrell and a few of the Texas coaches.

We don't have to worry about a buyout, but we lost a big chunk of our recruits.

LOL ... you violated your own ROE, Bill! :p

    Pick one.

when in doubt ALWAYS get a better defense and kicker. If they don't score, we can't lose ... which means we CAN win.

If we emphasize the offense and neglect the defense ... we get Mackovic. TTech has had fabulous ticket-selling offenses. How many championships?

The offense can NEVER stop the other team's offense, only slow it with a ball control, number of 1 downs = yards to TD/10. But the DEFENSE can score.

For our current team, I say fix the offense and bring in a dynamic OC.

Even a great defense will get worn down and deflated when it's on the field for a significant amount of time due to constant 3 and outs and poor field position. Our defense has not been bad when healthy.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

Since you said pick only one, my .02 is the OC.

    O on Sat. vs. Bailor:

    Not physical
    Lack discipline
    Gave up 5 sacks
Poor rushing outside of 1 long run by Ingraham
    Play calling predictable
    Big & critical penalties
    Overall regression

There is a pattern here... we've seen this vs. ou, TCU (to some degree), ISU, Bailor... time for Beck to go.

Orlando had a pretty good D in 2017 when he had some experienced players and not too many injuries. Beck's offense seems to have always relied on Ehlinger bailing him out. I could be wrong statistically but that's what it seems like to me. The offense needs a bigger fix than the defense in my opinion.

Neither. The real problem is the OL, which is Hand's area. Is he a bad coach or recruiter? No. Has the OL quit listening to him? Perhaps. It might be time to play other players and get them ready for next season.

As to this "fan" demand for bloodletting, it is about as intelligent as seepuku. Remember that this is the same group of coaches who beat Georgia last year, OU last year, and has given us to top three recruiting classes. While we are all disappointed, it is wise to give them a chance to straighten this out and let Herman re-establish control of the staff. It is stupid to eviscerate a coaching staff that has had so much success because of a difficult year. We had many difficult years before Herman got here so let's not forget that. Football is not tinder and instant gratification is not a good metric.

Beck as a recruiter and a position coach is fantastic, no complaints. Beck as a OC leaves a lot to be desired. An OC creates plays that allows us to maximize our talent and puts them in a position to succeed. We have wasted Collin Johnson's talent since Beck arrived. how many times has he caught passes with the opportunity to move laterally? Just about every play is him doing jump balls. We did absolutely nothing to try and free him up. Our passing offense is ridiculously simple.

Looking closer at blocking indicates that we can't figure out where the pressure is coming from and all too often we are caught with guys blocking the wrong guy or letting guys go completely free. This is a mental/coaching issue, not a skill level issue. Yes, we have interior guys getting beat, but it's only accounted for about 50% of our sacks, if we don't have the mental scheme issues our sack total is much more respectable.

I've written about Orlando's scheme issues all season long, I said after LSU we don't have the dline talent to put pressure on the QB. we have 3 DTs starting on the defensive line. I love Graham and Roach but those guys are DTs playing DE. Not bad when you are trying to stop the run but too slow to put pressure on a QB. For Orlando's scheme to be successful he has to blitz on every down or the QB will have no problem picking us apart.

Like our offense, our issues on defense is 75% scheme.

As others have pointed out, Baylor and ISU run a 3-4 with success so I can't agree that most of the problem is with scheme. If we had Derrick Johnson playing LB and Brian Robison along with Tony Brackens play DE no one would be talking about the scheme. Although I don't think Texas has recruited the right players for the scheme, and probably not because lack of effort, but missing out on some key targets (other than Coburn).

Maybe one could argue the scheme shoulda been changed for the players Texas has right now, but I don't see the players on the roster for that either. Who is a good pass rushing DE? Possibly Ossai, but who do you line up on the other side and who takes his place at LB? I just don't see the talent on DL or LB Mack had during his good years, or even Fred Akers had during his good years.

At least with the defense the last couple of games with players getting back there's a glimmer of hope. After watching the play calling against ISU I have no hope in Beck at all.

At this point in the season, the D is playing better (better does not equal great) than it was, but the O has tanked. So, Beck would be my candidate to mount the gallows first.

The Spread offense intro to college football was like putting a gun in a 5'3" woman's hands. It evened out the field. Lesser talent can play with better talent. The spread offense allows lesser teams to score on quality defenses. Look at what the spread has done to the defensively dominate $EC. Very few 17-14, or 10-7 ball games these days. Rules changes have also hurt defenses. Holding a spread team to 24 points is huge.

A 3-4 and a 3-3-5 are two different defenses. The 3-3-5 run by some teams is not the same as running a 3-3-5 and blitzing late from 10 yards off the LOS like Orlando was doing with DL only bull rushing without stunts.

That's true but someone must have slapped Orlano on the side of the head because he hasn't been doing the last couple of games.
