Discovered it is December 13 against Coppell. ESPNW had a LONG article on Andrews and Gusters signings and how the Andrews commitment went down. It was disgusting. Team karaoke and Andrews revealed.

    AAS Player of the Week:
Shay Holle, senior, Westlake: Holle averaged just over 20 points and 10 rebounds at the Allen Hoopfest, leading the Chaps to a 5-1 record and a silver bracket championship. Holle scored 30 points in a 64-62 pool play loss to 10-0 South Grand Prairie.

Hey DFW I saw that Sierra Canyon was no longer listed as a participant in the Sandra Meadows Classic this year. I’m disappointed. I was looking forward to you attending and giving us a report on How Ashley did against the tough Texas competition!

I just looked at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest website and they are still on the schedule - playing DeSoto at 4:30 Friday (Sandra Meadow arena in Duncanville).

I was looking at the wrong tournament it appears. Will you have the opportunity to go to the tournament and see Ashley's team play? You always have good insight. Hope to get a narrative from you on how she plays!

Thanks - I hope I can make it. The wife of the analyst who volunteered to work the day after Thanksgiving had a baby Monday so I'm trying to get one of my other people to take it over to support our Canadian operations. They need to just sync their Thanksgiving (October) with ours. ;)

Atascocita (Elyssa Coleman) played Pearland (Miss. State signee DeYona’ Gaston).

Didn’t see any scores reported, anyone know who won?

No, I don't see a score from either Houston Chronicle, Max Prep, or Rank One.

Per DMNews today, Chevalier et al will be playing against DeSoto at 4:30 pm Friday at Sandra Meadows Arena in Duncanville. Then Saturday at American Airlines Center against Duncanville at 6:30 pm. DeSoto is loaded albeit young this year so that game will be telling. Of course the Chevalier vs Kelly game will be revealing as well. Of course, it is team vs team but the point guard matchups will give fans an early glimpse of what they will be getting. It is real winner for these high school teams to be playing at AAC. Both the Stars and Mavs are out of town that night and Cuban apparently welcomed the boys and girls HS teams with open arms. Of course it doesn't hurt to have Lebron James and Dwayne Wade kids on the teams...…..as well as 6 or the top 20 high school players in the nation. The games Friday are sold out. I imagine that with 20,000 capacity, AAC will have a few seats left but is getting a lot of interest. I would love to go to any but out of town with Thanksgiving. I will report on DMNews results but it would be good if DFW-Horn or other could actually put eye-balls on one of more of the games.

If the games Friday are sold out then I won't get to see Ashley. Every time I tried to buy tickets for the Friday session, it would route me to Ticketmaster for the American Airlines Center games on Saturday (I can't make the Saturday games). I sent an email to the tournament organizers asking about ticket availability Friday in Duncanville but haven't gotten any response.

Sandra Meadows Arena only holds 2,000 so I would think the statement from DMNews is probably correct. The article says that all the games both at SMA and Duncanville Gym 1, and AAC are managed by one guy (Glenn Smith). He uses two laptops and his cell phone. But quoting him in the paper he says that with teams from 8 states and all the high level teams and the celebrity kiddos playing and #1 ranked player in nation(Cunningham), etc. that he is swamped. Probably why you cant get a response. Smith said that when the games were posted Saturday, all tickets were sold out in 48 minutes for Saturday. And the website crashed. When it came back up Friday sold out. So I have no idea if there are any AAC tickets left. The article doesn't specifically say but it sound like even AAC is sold out. Keep checking on the AAC games as only 4 games were moved. Three boys and one girls(Sierra Canyon vs Duncanville). Obviously those games are with the top national teams and Duncanville boys and girls.

Atascocita beat Pearland 44-39 per MaxPrep. Gaston had 28 points and 12 rebounds. MaxPrep only showed high point player who was Davis with 19 for Atascocita but Coleman did have 9 rebounds. Atascocita’s record is 11-2 and Pearland’s record is 3-7. A little surprised by Pearland’s record.

Terrible - the other 2 players referenced are Harmoni Turner (Harvard) and Jayla Brooks (SMU).

Don’t think so - at least not while in high school.

Copied this from the Dallas Morning news:
DeSoto 50, Sierra Canyon (Calif.) 41: Old Dominion signee Ash’a Thompson scored 15 points to lead the state’s top-ranked Class 6A team to a victory against defending California Open Division champion Sierra Canyon.

It was a matchup of nationally ranked teams, with Sierra Canyon No. 6 in USA Today’s poll and DeSoto at No. 11.

DeSoto’s defense stifled Sierra Canyon’s trio of Division signees. Duke signee Vanessa DeJesus was held to five points, Texas signee Ashley Chevalier scored six points and Boise State signee Alexis Mark had 11 points.

A pair of free throws by Thompson ignited an 8-0 DeSoto run late in the second quarter that erased an 18-17 deficit, and DeSoto never trailed again. Sophomore Sa’Myah Smith totaled 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for DeSoto, while junior Kendall Brown chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

    From the Dallas morning news:
    Sierra Canyon 68, Duncanville 55
Duncanville’s Deja Kelly put on a show with 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a tough squad from Sierra Canyon in a 68-55 loss.
Both teams played a back and forth contest for most of the opening half, including 17-17 deadlock going to the second quarter.
The second quarter saw both teams hold four-point leads, with Sierra Canyon using a late 10-3 run to hold a 31-27 halftime lead.
Duncanville went on a scoring run of its own -- a 13-1 jaunt midway through the third quarter to help build a 46-40 lead going to the final quarter.
However, Sierra Canyon had the final say with a 16-5 run to start the final quarter and Duncanville got no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Sierra Canyon five-star recruit Ashley Chevalier had 12 points and seven assists in the win, followed by 17 points from Vanessa De Jesus and 13 rebounds from Rosemary Odebunmi.
    Duncanville’s Hope LeMelle added a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Some recent Metroplex news. DeSoto is now ranked number 1 in nation after win over Sierra Canyon. Sara Andrews is out 4-6 weeks with strained knee(ACL), Bradley with Bishop Lynch shows up down the box score so wonder what impact she will have at Texas on 2021.

South Grand Prairie is, if I'm not mistaken, ranked nationally. Shay putting up those numbers against them makes me feel like we just may have gotten us a GOOD one that's a bit under the radar (player rankings). :headbang:

Good point - SGP is currently ranked #7 nationally.

I have high hopes for Shay - multi sport athlete whose mom (softball), dad (football) and older sisters (basketball) all played at the collegiate level or higher (NFL) so she knows the commitment and work required to excel.

Those stats were actually just player averages. Gaston is averaging 28 PPG and 12 RPG because they only put in stats for one game, their first game. Elyssa's team also only has stats in for one game.

I don't think Pearland has anyone outside of Gaston. HoopGurlz has 2023 Rylee Grays listed as Pearland HS, but I believe she chose the Village School. She'll be one to watch.

According to USA Today, DeSoto is number 1 ranked team in country. The win over Sierra Canyon recently got everyone’s attention. DeSoto is a very young team with a lot of size and athleticism.

Last night, DeSoto as number 1 team in nation went down. To South Grand Prairie by 8 points at DeSoto. So no fluke. SGP is ranked like 17th in nation and is now 17-1. They will obviously move up. Perhaps Sierra Canyon ranked 2 will move up to 1.....even though DeSoto beat em two weeks ago. Basketball is what have you done for me recently.
