Is there a more annoying game day experience than the Miss State cowbells? Omg, just shoot me! I am watching the egg bowl now. Kind of surprised there is not a rule against artificial noise makers.

The only one worse I can think of was those stupid horns blowing during the World Cup before they banned em.

Honorable mention: Atlanta Braves doing the FSU chant back in the day.

We used to do the same thing here until it was disallowed.

I was at The University back in the early to mid-80's (thus handle) and never remember being as obnoxious as MS ag, and I remember them being as bad at Cotton Bowl when Ricky struck Heisman--:smile1:

Wow, I did not know that moondog. Do you remember who was behind banning them? Glad they did though

I remember them being "rung" on 3rd downs (when we were on D) and the chant "Go, go, go 'Horns go!"

The cowbells. I totally forgot about the bells watching on the TV as a kid. What year was that stopped? I’m guessing around 82?

I remember them being very loud in a game against Houston when Jenkins was still coaching there. That may have been the last year they were allowed.

I was there 1986-1990. I do not remember cowbells. There are lots of other things I don’t remember though. :whiteflag:

No University of Texas game is complete without the Longhorn Band’s deadly weapons — cowbells. These sonorous instruments are passed out to each band member at the start of a game. When rung, they produce a deafening sound, symbolic of our PRIDE and SPIRIT. Past experience (Texas vs. Arkansas, 1977) has proven that cowbells, rung by three hundred plus Longhorn Band members, can make more noise than an opposing team’s fans.

My memory is also a little fuzzy around the edges.
But I do remember a game with loud cowbells.
    We need more cowbell.
    I have a fever.

I was at UT for the 82 and 83 football seasons, and the main thing I remember was us (the students) getting in trouble for stomping on the aluminum benches on the east side of the stadium when UT was on defense. I seem to recall that we caused UT to get a couple of technical fouls for the noise we were making (and yet the LHB's cowbells were OK?). So we were told to knock it off.

Either that, or the LSU band playing the same two notes back and forth in the 7OT game vs A&M last year.

Yes, this is the worst. Especially as there isn't a track and the paddles are almost within striking distance of the players.

TE fumbled and they called it incomplete or there's no big aggy win.

I was at UT during the 80's. Went to pretty much every game. I do NOT remember us having cowbells, although I have memories of other teams having them. Maybe I blocked them out somehow? But, I also remember not wearing burnt orange to games, so who knows what universe I was really living in. Maybe a virtual one...

I’m with you pluck, and don’t remember making burnt orange a habit until Mack’s making it an issue.

In 82 and 83, the crowd sure wasn't as loud as it is now.

You can see in pictures before Mack got here, you can pick out the individual burnt orange wearers in the crowd.

Yes, without a doubt - the ou band and the incessant sounds of boomer sooner between plays.

Before Mack Brown, a big group of us tailgaited pretty much EVERY game. I have lots of pictures from back then, and for whatever reason, people generally wore whatever they wanted, which wasn't burnt orange. Maybe a UT ball cap here and there. Seems odd to me now...
