CDC is an excellent AD, and he said what he needed to say. Perfect tone.

I know many here don’t like Bohls but his column this morning — “The Longhorns go out with a real bang after a real whimper of a season” — perfectly says exactly what I think.

I don't know how, but it looks like Orlando will survive.

Oh well, I'm not going anywhere so I'm on board. :hookem:

Certainly it's fair to allow Tom Herman to make the decisions on his own staff. He should be coaching for his job next year so as long as he and CDC are also aligned on that, I don't really care who stays or goes.

Not replacing TO would be a mistake IMO. Herman has a lifeline now, he might not after next season.

What we saw on the field “for much of the year” — and even more so the metrics - suggest that a new DC is in order. Even with a full compliment of healthy upperclassmen (last year), TO’s unit was — like the AT&T ad says - “Just Ok.” Just OK is not good enough.

Let me add that while I believe that CDC told Herman that it’s his (TH’s) decision, you can be sure that CDC did plenty of probing, and he certainly expressed his opinion. So when he says that it’s Herman’s decision, that is a bit misleading. It’s like Trump telling a Cabinet member that it’s “their decision.”

Frankly disappointed in the comments. “Right course” after a 7-5 season following a 10 win Sugar Bowl season is not the right course or direction.

This team was riddle with injuries, but lost games they should have won and seemed unprepared in most games after OU.

CDC's, conversation may have been something like, "Tom, it's your team and assistants and you make the decisions regarding any changes you deem necessary. But, if next year, you deliver another season like this one, we'll be having a different conversation, and it won't be pleasant. Capisci? So, don't piss me off. Now, get outta here! Go do your damn job!"

We certainly can't use "Youth" and "injuries" as an excuse next year. Considering how many players got significant playing time this year yet would have normally been on the bench should have us a REALLY solid depth chart next year.

I mean this is two or three years in a row now, I believe, where our backup quarterback(s) have had little to no playing time. The problem is that our 'gimme' games have been anything but and we've been in dogfights or losing to the kinds of teams our backups should have been getting reps against.

I hope TH did not need CDC to tell he needs to win big. If TH keeps Orlando that means TH is willing to sink with Orlando.

Don’t be concerned unless Sam goes out completely due to injury. But that would also have been the case in 2005 with VY, and 2008 & 09 with Colt.

I think we will be stronger at the QB position next year than we have been since the Colt era, particularly if Thompson stays, which I expect. Additionally, I do believe that Sam will be in the Heisman conversation next year. There’s no substitute for experience and there’s no doubt that this challenging year will have been a blessing in disguise relative to his growth.

He has probably learned a very pointed lesson related to premature elation, and basing performance predictions upon it.

I never thought Sam could make it through an entire season but he did so I’m counting on the same next year. The battle for backup should make for an exciting Spring.

If we keep RB recruits Robinson & Jordan, and keep Thompson, I probably move Roschon
back to QB and let him battle for the backup spot. That would be a bit of an embarrassment of riches.

Man, you and me both. The embarrassment of trying to explain my premature elation combined with the less than convincing pats on the shoulder. Ugh.

Personally I hope we have a different QB next season. Sam is a servicable QB but I want to see someone else.
Also I would play two QBs every game so that the backup gets reps. Maybe 80/20.
It's better for recruiting and makes the opponent prepare for two QBs

Not gonna happen Pom. Baring injury Sam is our guy and imo if he had any kind of a stellar, even semi stellar supporting staff of skill players, heck even an above average line, he would be a premier QB for us.

disagree. Sam may not be an elite passer but he hasn't been helped much by the rest of the O this year. They all had bright spots but WR's dropped too many, Ingram didn't consistently deliver and the line seemed to get worse as the season went on. RJ was the only bright spot that delivered the whole year. Sam isn't the issue right now. An offense that needs a QB to run for 30% of our ground game is the problem.

40 rushes per game and we win almost every game, we may be undefeated or close to it. Beck hardly used the RB’s most games. Yesterday TH called 47 running plays, only 10 were SE.

Yep. But he wasn’t allowed to pass. The game was clearly won by that point. Give him some meaningful passing reps.

I agree, but my point was that he appeared to have poise with Tech loaded up at the line.
