I am thinking that all discussions are off until after the season. Brady signing now would be leaving money on the table.

Pretty sure that anyone we want is under contract and working the next several weeks. That does not, however, keep their agents from visiting about "possibilities".

I’m sure that there is plenty of conversations being had.

Just speculation on my part but (for example) if we wanted Brady and he wanted to come, I could see a scenario in which an agreement is announced after this weekend but before the CFP. That would allow Texas to leverage the news for the Early Signing Period. Again, I’m just speculating.

Absolutely, remember Herman came before Houston even played their bowl game.

One issue is probably when to make the announcement. If the chosen one(s) end up in the CFP, I would suspect there will not be an announcement until after their game(s) are over. Anyone else should come shortly after the CCG's this weekend.

The press release called for a "national search." To keep up appearances, you gotta allow a couple of days to pass.

Phil Parker, DC of Iowa, seems like someone we should at least take a look at. He does it without superior talent.

I would go Brady big time and add Asst HC. Make him highest paid OC in the country. If he isn’t being considered for a HC position, next best thing and prepared him for the next step.

In the end, you either get him or bankrupt LSU.

I like Brady, but really the guy has one season of success. I don't think he is a flash in the pan, BUT how many contract extensions have we seen around the country based on one year?

I'm for giving him a livable salary with lots of incentives. If he delivers, he is among the highest paid assistants. If not, he gets a second year of incentives or is shown the door.

Rod Babers was saying today that Urban Meyer had credited Chris Ash with convincing him to make big changes to Ohio State's tackling drills and techniques, and that those ended up being improvements that played a key role in the 2014 National Title, fwiw.

I've come full circle with the DC. First I wanted Ash, then I wanted a few other guys, now I'm back to wanting to get Ash. I think he is exactly what we need.

    1. He cut his teeth as a DB coach
    2. He is a proven DC with the ability field a Championship defense.
    3. He makes awesome Quesadillas

    We Gotta get him.

    I’m sold on Ash too.

Don’t think we can get Brady, or Sculley from Utah. IMHO, Ash and Morris are most likely to come and best available. But Lashlee is real good too. Maybe more unproven.

    Bill,

I'm not so sure about Ash. Urban Myth talking about him teaching "tackling". Will this defense sign off on "tackling"?

    That was exactly LSU's thinking.

It did not work. Brady is going to listen after the season is over, evidently. It will not just be Texas, either.

So you are saying if LSU is offering him 4 years at $1.5 per annum with incentives, Texas should just fold?

I do not think Herman nor Del Conte nor the BMD see it that way.

Why does WIKI show Ash on our staff as an Analyst as of this year? I must have missed that. It says he started Sept 29th. Maybe that's why our defense improved the last few weeks?

Regarding Joe Brady, I'm not sure why we would bring in someone who has never been solely responsible for an offense to come here for his first gig to fix our problems. I also wouldn't give him all the credit for turning around LSU's offense. I'm pretty certain he helped, but that team is stacked with experience. He's never been an OC and I've never been a fan of giving someone his first shot at any coordinator position here at Texas.

So, we go after this guy from "Keeping Up Appearances" then, Richard Bucket (it's pronounced "Bouquet" a French derivation). What does he know about being an OC or DC?

I have the same concerns. He has the LSU receivers playing a lot better, but being a Coordinator is a lot different from being a position coach. I lean toward a seasoned OC who has produced solid results to take over at UT.

Yeah... we already have one guy "with potential" manning the ship. Better bring in some proven first-mates

Since 2000 blowu has won about 13 or 14 Big 12 titles. Their last 2 head coaches were coordinators before they became coaches. Why is it that they can get guys with zero coaching experience and dominate us and we seem to accept the premise that we cant hire a coach with none to little experience.

Don't get me wrong, I've said the same thing I'm now questioning. Are they just better at finding coaches than we are? We keep looking at guys and wondering, does he have enough experience when maybe what we should be asking is is he good enough.
