Don't like it all. Utah is much better than they looked against Oregon. Plus they'll be pissed. Not good.
I never thought I would see the day when Texas is "scared" to play someone in football. Personally, I wanted Notre Dame or A&M. Beating Utah doesn't move the needle for me one bit.
Wait...Shouldn't they be uninterested like Georgia was when they lost their CCG and missed the play-offs and had to play in the little old Sugar Bowl ???? Utah may not even show up much less give us any effort at all...... LOL
Come on Horns. It’s Christmastime in San Antonio, the cradle of Texas liberty. The Riverwalk will be lit up, lights everywhere. Great atmosphere. Great New Year’s Eve Bowl. Let’s get this party started!
Utah has a quick fast QB and a good passing attack. Their defense is solid..giving up less than 20 points per game in 10 of 13 games....Offensively they are averaging 30+ a game.......beating them may not move anyone's needle, but getting spanked by them will get the recruits attention. Not a good bowl matchup for Herman's future.
Utah does not have a good passing attack. Oregon beat them by making them try and throw. Utah runs our exact same offense. Their QB is a worse Ehlinger/Tebow clone. We are literally going to see our Urban Meyer offense take on their Urban Meyer offense (which will make for bad viewing in general). This is a good matchup for both defenses as they practice against this offense every day. We actually should have kept Orlando for this.
The bowl has choice of what's left after NYD. CdC can do some politicking for certain spots. I would think that Utah would prefer the Holiday Bowl for recruiting in SoCal
The Alamo Bowl takes the Pac12 and Big 12 teams that finish the highest in conference and do not make an NY6 bowl. Utah was the highest Pac12 team not to make the NY6. We won the tiebreakers and finished 3rd behind OU and Baylor. Just happened to end up with a 7-5 team against an 11-2 team. Happened to us in 2013 when 8-4 Texas played 10-2 Oregon in the Alamo Bowl (which did not go well for us). Hopefully this time goes better. Personally, instead of going strictly in order, I think the Pac12 should have swapped their Holiday Bowl and Alamo Bowl teams. Texas-USC in the Alamo Bowl and Iowa-Utah in the Holiday Bowl would have been better.
Alamo gets to choose from the B12 and P12. They get the first choice from each that are not involved in playoff or NY6. Lots more money involved and full house picking Texas than any one else available. Alamo had their choice of anyone available not just Texas.
Very tough matchup for our offensive line. Lets hope they can heal up and get things figured out because this might be a better defensive line than both LSU and Baylor.
If we ever wanted a shot at getting Van Fillinger back, this would be the matchup to show him where we stand vs Utah.
I'm with KBBaker. I think we'll do fine against Utah, but it sure would have been a lot more interesting to play ND, or aggy.
I watched the 2013 Alamo Bowl with an Oregon Duck fan -- that game marked the end for Mack Brown. At halftime, maybe Tom will interview Morgan Scalley for the Defensive Coordinator job. I sure don't see us beating the Utes. At least the cupboard won't be bare for the next set of coaches.
Good new! Those Utes played the Ducks hard & just what you want to see in a bowl game. The Horns will be up for a win against a good team.
Utes will be tough, very tough don’t kid yourself. We play our best we have a chance but ONLY if we are tip top. Collin gonna play? That will be critical. Everyone needs to be in top shape and ready to play. I actually think ND would have been a better match up. Utah has to be as pissed as Boise is with the match up.
