Harrell made the right call by staying. Parlayed all the rumors into a fat new contract and will be in line to be the next USC head coach once Helton is fired. And Helton will be fired.

I was never convinced he was the right OC for us. I would much rather have seen Chad Morris, but if the rumors I've heard are true and he and Herman don't get along then I can see why that was a stillborn hope on my part.

I'm not sure Harrell had a choice...seems TH wasnt sold on him.
..Though he (Harrell) did use the "opportunity " to his advantage.

Ask ten fans and get ten answers. Nobody really knows the details and Herman does not want to disclose them. It's his right. Seems like a hot potato that nobody wants to own up to. IMHO, TH turning over the offense to the right OC and being more of a CEO coach is in his and our best interest. Has to be the right OC, and someone TH can trust.

Sounds like Mark Johns and Rhett Lashlee are both better at a power spread concept and running the ball than Graham Harrell ever was or ever will be. All season and last season as well I watched games and in our difficult offensive games I was bewildered at our giving up on the running game. Now we have JQJ and Bijan Robinson coming in and J Whitt should be good to go in 2020 (fingers crossed). After watching the film from Coach Lamons, I feel the running game is the key to success with this offense and the talent Texas has. We need a run oriented OC. Mark Johns from Memphis sounds really good. Hope Herman is talking to him. He knows Memphis well from his AAC days at UH. I've never watched them play before. Rhett Lashlee would be a good option B, he is from SMU and Auburn in the past.

I may be a minority but I am not a go with the crowd kind of guy. I still think power spread 45+ runs per game will create a dominant offense that will eat up these spread and air raid teams of the Big 12. And it will help out this defense trying to learn a new and better system. If we improve our run game with this OC hire. Look out Big 12!

Possible OC -- Mike Yurcich (Passing Game Coordinator/QBs, tOSU)

    From OB --

He was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2013 to 2018. According to Yurcich’s bio, during his six years at Oklahoma State, the program ranked fifth nationally in passing yards per game (315.9), 11th in touchdown passes (179), seventh in total yards (478.6) and sixth in scoring (38.0). In the 2017 season, Mason Rudolph had 4,904 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and nine interceptions, James Washington and Marcell Ateman had over 1,000 yards receiving, while Justice Hill has over 1,000 yards rushing. In addition, Oklahoma State led the nation in passing (389.2 yards per game), was second in total offense (568.9) and ranked fourth in scoring (45.0).

Basically, that is the ideal balance Herman desires at Texas.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has 2,953 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and only one interception this season (190.3 passer rating). Kevin Wilson is Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, but Yurcich impact on Fields is obvious. More importantly, Yurcich could become a coordinator again at Texas.

Right now, Ohio State is preparing to face Clemson in the college football playoffs on December 28.

Another name is Sean Gleeson (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks, Oklahoma State) and of course Applewhite.

Would that be considered a lateral move? Why would he do that? Mo money? If he is a "passing game coordinator" I would go for that.

Have you been to that ********? Columbus is the worst city I've been to, and I have been to Philadelphia, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Port Arthur

I remember doing some work in Cleveland back when Ohio state had John Cooper as its coach. He was just days before his firing and he had a call-in show on the local radio show. Wow, the fans were absolutely merciless to the dude. I actually felt sorry for him. I thought they were the worst fans I've ever come across. We are saints compared to tosu fans.

IMHO Philly is worse. I have personal reasons for my dislike of Philly, but as for Mike Yurcich coming to Texas. Good move!

People in Philly have a different mindset than Texas. I have a good friend who is an OSU grad. So I’m biased towards Columbus, full disclosure. Not many good cities in Ohio. Ever been to Toledo?

Now your just trolling. We have one of the best RB coaches in college football. There is no reason to make changes where no change is necessary.

....and our running game is sooooo dynamic.....Coaching RBs and coordinating a rushing scheme are two different things.

He would be getting a promotion to an OC position and, presumably, a nice raise.

If we get someone who is employed it will require a 3 year guaranteed contract to get them.

Any city worse than Port Arthur is the arse hole of the Universe.
There have been some fine folks from PA. But the city itself is the pits.

I can't comment on PA, but I can think of several cities that are Grade A top shelf Arse. Most of them are in the Rust Belt. 3 are in Ohio.

Best Cities I've lived in were:
    Austin
    Minneapolis
    Salt Lake City
    Dallas
    Houston
    San Antonio

To have a good running game prerequisite # 1 is having healthy RBs. That was an issue this year. Then you must have talented backs. Next blocking and play calling.

I don’t think that Stan Drayton was the issue as you seem to be suggesting.

I want to know who should lose their job to have a Running game coordinator? Hand, Drayton? Generally speaking the running game coordinator is one of those two.

I had lunch in Highland Park yesterday, at True Foods. The fare was chicken-avocado wrap with hummus, cucumber, sweet onion with sides of sweet potato hash and kale salad. I don't think PA has that, but you can get some pretty good gumbo in PA--at least I used to. The gumbo and then the all you could eat fresh off the shrimp boat seafood at Sartin's down the highway west a few miles kept me sane during my time there. There has never been anything from the gulf of Mexico better tasting than Sartin's BBQ grilled crab. Yeah, Baby!

Youngstown must be below the pits, whatever that is. Port Aurthur's bad air, bad water, bad climate, the occasional hurricane, frequent flooding, is a gauntlet.

Yet, as noted, many fine people have Port Arthur roots. Miracles every one!
