I'm with you. I hate throwing a guy out of a game for a very close crown of the helmet hit. Trouble is where do you draw the line on what is egregious? So they've taken a zero tolerance approach which is pretty harsh. I just don't think there is a perfect way to execute this rule.

Ohio State did more than enough to beat themselves in the game but the replay official reversing the scoop and score late in the 3rd quarter was total crap.

I thought he definitely had possession but you could argue his forward progress was stopped before he lost the ball.

I also imagine that OU has to spend a good deal of time re-training their players how to cover and block without holding.
They clearly coach them how to hold and get away with it during conference play.

I bet there is quite a bit of consternation about that after the regular season within the OU offices.

Lincoln Riley: "Hey guys, were College Football Playoff bound!"
    Team: "WHOOOHOO"
Lincoln Riley: "Well, you can celebrate today. But we got a lot of work to do in less than a month, learning how to play football by the rules. On Monday we'll be going over Blocking 101 and Covering 101. You are going to have to unlearn everything we taught you up to this point this year"

I dunno, but the "holding not called crying" seems sorta weak.....isn't there "holding" on every play? Sorta like the Patriots and Seahawks secondary....they are coached to "hold/interfere" a lot because the refs aren't going to call it every play......

Western Kentucky and Western Michigan are tied at 20 with 1:36 left to go in the First Responder Bowl. (Of interest only because WKU are the Hilltoppers, whatever those are)

Maybe the "Hilltoppers" are the guys that dig and strip-mine off the tops of the mountains to get the coal. :idk:

These teams are not looking bad from what little I have seen. It seems like Kentucky has a lot of speed in the backfield.

Navy gonna try and win it with a field goal with 0:05 left. I expect KSU to use all 3 TO to try and ice the kicker.

    New Years Day 2020

    Happy New Year to All!

As expected on a New Years Day, there’s a good slate of bowl games.

    Citrus Bowl: Alabama v Michigan
I’ve gotta go with Bama here. Michigan lacks the overall talent up and down the lineup that Bama has. Michigan also can’t come close to matching Bama for team speed. Saban will have the Tide well prepared after the embarrassing losses to LSU and Auburn, and will face his old foe from his Mich State days. Harbaugh just doesn’t have the horses.

    Outback Bowl: Auburn v Minnesota
This could be the most entertaining match up of the day. Minnesota’s superbly coached squad faces off against a very stout defense. I think the Gophers balanced passing attack will eventually break down the tough Auburn D. On the other side of the ball, Minnesota has less to fear from a mostly anemic Auburn passing attack, and the Gophers are tough enough up front to not be manhandled.

    Rose Bowl: Oregon v Wisconsin
The Granddaddy of them all. Gents, make the annual deal with your wife that you’ll watch the Rose Bowl Parade with her if she’ll let you watch bowl games the rest of the day. It’s on now, so get to it. As for the game: Mighty Wisconsin has more balance and is (much) stronger in the trenches. Competition in the PAC is suspect this year. Oregon barely escaped against Washington and some other very so-so teams. Wisconsin has a balanced offense, a smart coaching staff, and a very powerful OL. Badgers with the win today.

    Sugar Bowl: Georgia v Baylor
It probably will not be a good day for the Big 12. Georgia is too tough, the talent differential is large, and the coaching is only a slight advantage to Baylor. Key to the game: Georgia containing Lynch and the rest of the Baylor D front. This is lthe best D Baylor has faced all year, and I don’t expect Baylor to run wild on them. They’ll score, but it won’t look like a typical Baylor game. So, if the dogs can manage Lynch and crew, look for a bulldog win.

Re: Rose Bowl Parade. The Society of the Descendants of the Mayflower has a float going by now. It’s a rosed-out Mayflower ship. The ultimate celebration of WASP heritage parades down the streets of Los Angeles, California (technically Pasadena) to a cheering crowd. You don’t see that everyday in this day and age. :lmao:

I can tell you from personal experience that if you ever point out to a Yankee that the first American Thanksgiving was actually celebrated near El Paso, Texas, they will be very dismissive, if not insulting.
