Chop, you dead right about older penalty. There are literally dozens of things lined up yo kill football as we know it. A violent game is ...violent.

We’ve reached a point where we need at least a couple of professional officials on every game. Fifty years ago football was a college sport, more or less, and revenues did not support pro refs. It is now a billion dollar business and it can afford better, more consistent crews. The all out assault on safety is a right thing, but the high-minded idea that injuries can be stopped by rules is just wrong. Chop blocks, clipping, blind sides, QB hits all cut back on injuries. But there needs to be logical latitude given to the 2 professional refs to intercede when a strict, inviolable penalty is a clear injustice.
Accidents do happen. Like the OSU/Clemson targeting. A logical person could see there was no intent to injure. Two players, going full speed both ducked and helmets hit. Accident. The OU prick, who launched head first at a blindsided OSU player (away from the play) had totally clear intent to do serious harm. He, or any similar player, should be DQ’d for a number of games that a level headed professional ref can justify.
The other rules (or lack of) cancer is these play halting fall down injuries. It looks like a damn soccer game. LSU killed us with a number of those. The player is dragged of like James Brown and two plays later comes running back like a deer. I understand that a ref cant tell if a player is truly hurt. So they have to be allowed to be removed. But we need something to stop 1 or 2 players falling down over and over. Must stay out 3 plays. Or second fall down, you’re out for a quarter. Three or more fall downs on one drive is a walk off or time out charge. A permanent pro referee can be trusted to tell the difference in injury and drama buying time.

Hit a button. Just saying. This is a violent game and if we want to keep it a full contact sport we have to address injuries. And with the egregious/zero tolerance penalties somebody has to add a degree of sanity. That or some flags around belts to be pulled as a tackle. I’d like to keep that game on the intramural field.

I think it is well established here that diving for a punted ball is very poor judgement. Auburn cost themselves a touchdown.

Auburn is so talented up and down their lineup, but Nix at QB keeps them a good, but not great, team. He’s not that bad, but he’s not on the level of the top QBs. AU is putting some points on the board today.

Reminds me of a typical LSU QB before Burrow came along. Maybe not that bad.

Win or lose today, Michigan fans should calm down and back off the ledge with their ‘fire Harbaugh’ stuff. They’ll end up with 9 or 10 wins on the year. Michigan has been in a much worse condition before, and for a long time. 21-16 Bama now. Patterson’s accuracy is a bit off. Michigan about to punt it back to Bama.

Nice D stand by Minnesota near midfield. Then Auburn tried a fake punt. The punter threw a post pattern to the TE. Incomplete. He was arguably interfered with, but no call. Still 24-24. These are two darn-near evenly matched teams. Heck of a game.

Not that it makes any difference, but that punt clearly went out of bounds at the three right in front of the official, who spotted it down at the four. ;)

Post pattern with man coverage - safety on WR. Give the DB credit, he was within 10 yards when the kid crossed the goalline.

Wow, what a clutch 4th down catch by the TE. That could be the ball game. . . . Then, as icing on the cake, two more first downs. Congratulations, Minnesota

Watching the Rose Bowl. Whisky is up 10-7 on Oregon. Game is also carried on ESPN Skycast. View is from the sky cam on the field behind the offense. Can see everything the O and D are doing - blocking schemes, routes, open holes, D stunts and coverage, etc. Best part, no announcers, only hear stadium announcer, crowd noise, and the bands.

Woah. Oregon with a TD. O QB Herbert ran it in using a stiff arm. Herbert is big and strong for a QB.
