    NOTES

The No. 25 Texas women's basketball team opens Big 12 Conference play on Friday when it plays host to TCU. Tip-off at the Frank Erwin Center is slated for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be nationally televised by Longhorn Network. In a preseason vote of the league's 10 head coaches, the Longhorns were predicted to finish second in the Big 12 Conference in 2019-20.

    Texas in Big 12 Openers:
Texas is 13-10 all-time in Big 12 Conference openers and has won five consecutive league lid-lifters. Last season, the Longhorns defeated Oklahoma State 60-51 on Jan. 2, 2019 at the Frank Erwin Center to open Big 12 Conference play.

    The Series
    :
Texas and TCU meet for the 48th time in the history of the two programs with the Longhorns leading the all-time series 44-3. Texas and the Horned Frogs met three times last season with the Longhorns winning all three games, including a victory in the Big 12 Conference Tournament quarterfinals. Texas is 21-0 all-time vs. TCU when the game is played in Austin.

    On The Boards:
Success on the boards has been a staple of Texas teams for many years. In fact the Longhorns have tied or won the rebounding battle in 127 of their last 151 games overall, including eight of 11 games this season. The Longhorns hold a +11.3 rebounding margin, which ranks 17th nationally. Texas has reached 50 or more rebounds in four games this year. Sophomore center Charli Collier ranks 11th in the nation in rebounds per game with 11.4.

    Double Trouble:
Texas leads the nation with 18 double-doubles so far this season. Senior forward Joyner Holmes and sophomore center Charli Collier rank among the top-five nationally in double-doubles. Collier is tied for third with nine double-doubles and Holmes is tied for fifth with eight double-dips. Senior guard Lashann Higgs has one double-double on the year.

Which team will show up? I sincerely hope it’s the team that beat Stanford. :bevo:

I think we may be finally finding our identity as a team. I'm optimistic, but in a very measured sense.

Higgs need to be getting more minutes. She is not playing her best basketball, but still, she is a much better offensive player, and just as good a defensive one, as Celeste Taylor. You don't waste all that talent with so many minutes on the bench. I think her confidence is down, but sitting on the bench is not going to build it back up.

We are just getting out coached right now. TCU running that tight zone not allowing any penetration. This is the team we saw earlier in the year. Not looking good!

After all these years, we apparently have no clue how to attack the zone. No cutting, no movement, just passing the ball around the perimeter till someone finally hoists the ball up.

That was embarrassing for everyone. Anytime Texas plays a zone they get lost and look like they have no clue what's going on. Also it's been the same problem every season with the careless unnecessary turnovers

Ugh, I've determined that watching this team, this year, is detrimental to my health. You could see them falling off after the Stanford game. It's the Hawaii tournament all over again. As soon as the Bigs get in foul trouble and Sutton starts throwing the ball away the writing's is on the wall.

When you can’t shoot the ball consistently from the perimeter and teams can sag in the paint it really doesn’t matter what you run offensively. Although the offense in general isn’t very good especially against a zone.

It's mind-boggling that with Collier and Holmes we have no idea how to use our height to attack a zone defense. Aston gets less out of more talent than just about any P5 coach I can think of.

Again, when you’re not a consistent jump shooting team from the perimeter it’s easy to prevent the post players from being effective. And we know Bill Finely’s going to play a zone, so I would expect the same the next game against Iowa st.

TCU has used basically the same game plan against us since Pebbley has been the coach... and we STILL can't figure it out. SMH

And this is why we need a change. Sure pull a major upset every 20 years and this sloppy mess.

We didn’t show up for the 3rd quarter and Karen “doesn’t know why.”

Well it’s your job to know why, Karen. And it’s your job to fix it while there is still time on the clock. Going and looking at film after the fact is a crock of sh*t.

Maybe pull a Pat Summitt and kick them out of the locker room until they decide to play a full 40 mins. I don’t know either. But then again, I’m not paid to know.

This why there needs to be a change. One upset every 20 years followed by miserable losses to below average teams shouldn’t (and won’t) cut it.
Broken record: turnovers, scoring droughts, inability to change throughout the game. Unexplainable substitution.
Warren comes in, scores 2-3 times, Aston pulls her.

I assume every team except Baylor and WVU will use a zone against us in the B-12. I don't think Tech does, but maybe they will, too. I would if I were the other coaches.

I forgot how good Audrey Warren is. I hope the coach will really utilize her talents the rest of the year. Bummer she lost half the year.

Simply out coached. Higgs needs to be on the floor.
At some point I with Andrea Lloyd would put down the mic and start to coach these girls.
Here is a concept. We need a coach that has competed and WON a championship.
    Very very disappointing.

It seems like somebody would hire a coach that knows how to break a zone.

Iowa State won’t be a picnic. I expect the Horns to go 0-2 as we can’t even break a zone. Laughing stock of the big 12.

I saw her play AAU on a team with V. Gray, T. Vetenheimer and S. Prince. She was a raw athlete with not a very polished skill set AT ALL. She wasn't even near the same level as Vetenheimer at the time.

What the TCU staff has done with her is a testament to their coaching abilities. That's what player development and coaching up looks like. Meanwhile we continue to waste top talent....

Big 12 stats tell the tale. The past 2 years Texas has been in the top five in less than half of stats. In 2017-18 (their last good year) they were in top five in 18 of 21 categories. Except for rebounding and points by the Bigs, this team is under-performing all the way around. For a team with four seniors and 400 games' of experience, it is very surprising.

    1. Your team gets outplayed in the third quarter because the opposing coach makes adjustments and you don't, nor can you make in-game counter adjustments.
    2. TCU always plays our tendencies very well...so does almost every other team in the Big 12 because we're predictable with that one dimensional strategy that has been in place for seven years. How many games in the past few years have we lost (or barely squeaked by with a win) to teams that had not even a fraction of the talent we've had?
    3. To have Lauren Heard outplay your THREE McDonald's HS All-American guards (two of them Top 10) is YOUR fault, and speaks volumes about just how inept you are as a head coach.
    4. What's REALLY totally unacceptable is that year after year after year the it's the same old **** with YOUR teams, and the fact that you won't take responsibility for it but choose to blame the players' efforts instead. That's incompetent COACHING. That's on YOU, boss...
