I believe Iran intentionally missed US troops. They can claim victory by attacking US troops and No US response.

To the common observer, it appears missiles raining from the sky is a common occurrence, much like rain showers on the north shore of Hawaii islands.

As I expected, a symbolic retaliation with no significant damage. Iran has much to lose by escalating this conflict.

a few weeks ago, Iran was 2 for 2 using these systems to hit the saudi oil fields.

Naw ... I reckon our black ops beeps/squeaks folks were able to send those missiles to crater in the desert without harming our troopers.

    ... Persia isn't done, though.

I'd resist the urge to "go about" without keeping them in the cross check. (sts)

... or the F35s which launched last night.

But wait ... US GEO says it originated below ground.

yeah, that's what I'd say, too.

either way, (natural disaster or instigated by US or Israel) it's not a good end for the Persians.

    yeah, that's another spin doctor.

I'm going with the black ops guys. While it's true Iran made the threats for their "post mourning" period ... we didn't clear out our billeting.

This is a precisely worded legal argument in English
It means more than it says

yeah, I don't have the dope on that ... perhaps just a poor sack who wasn't aware of what was happening and decided to launch into active combat operations with a commercial airliner. ... then trigger happy, expecting US Air Forces, Iranian anti-aircraft system ... well.

A 737 is tough ... but that? Never heard of a 737 just spontaneously combusting ... even a poorly maintained one, if it was.

Yeah sounds like a "we have to come up with a response to save face, but we don't actually want to escalate this further".

Just a guess, but they probably activated their own radar jamming as soon as their missiles were off, and so brought this plane down themselves by accident. A better practice would have been to ground them for a period. But they will never admit it. And its not like they are going to let the FAA in to figure it out

have a high estimation of US forces eh?

Lessee ... the 737 launched outta Tehran international (not any of their air bases) ... was bound for Kiev (meaning NOT toward Iraq)

Tehran is a couple hundred miles east of the Iraq border ... 737 shot down at <10K feet ...

    Nope. It was Iranian, @old65horn

I'm confident they meant it ... but their systems were ill prepared for the "force" ...

we have some very sophisticated defense systems ... and the more reliance upon GPS/electronic ... the easier it becomes to jam/disable it.

They didn't know their missiles were going to miss until they did. THEN they published that weak spin.

The highest. There is little dispute they are the best in the world. I do not have the highest regard of the man in charge though. He caused the problem, heighten the problem and brought us to the brink.
