Do you really think a "cowboy" on a ship is capable of launching a missile to take down the 737 alone?
Do you have any concept of the steps necessary on the ship to do this?

Edit IF you have a high regard for our military why would you think a "cowboy " could do this

Don't let your hated of our country Trump and the military in general cloud common sense.

so based on your estimation of Trump, you think we had an operator shoot-down a civilian airliner?

C'mon man ... you've GOT to have better sense than that. Do we need to allow a face-saving moment like the Iranians needed in their spin doctor defense minister?

look at a map. The threat to the airliner could only be Iranian unless the Captain wandered a couple hundred miles ... in the wrong direction!

I'd really like to hear more about this array.

You are aware of the Iran history, right? AKA Persia. Specifically the past 40 years.

You feel that he heightened the conflict for killing an Iranian general? The same guy who ordered the attack on our embassy???

Consider it may be time to step back and go do something else for a good while. Just switching to decaf is insufficient.

While mechanical failure is always possible, the timing makes that highly suspect. However, your idea that a Ukrainian Boeing passenger plane was brought down on takeoff by a US Navy warship in the Gulf 1,500 kilometers away is conspiratorial nonsense.

No I do not really think the US shot down the jet, but I do know know what caused it to come down.. Yhe point was that wild speculation I see from "experts" on this board are also just speculation.

And yes, the US Navy warship did shot down an Iranian airliner before. Read the independent analysis and you will see that the captains own fellow caotains in the area consider him to be a dangerous "cowboy".

All good points Joe, but just speculation and my post was just a wild speculation exaggeration
Yea, I am very familiar with the US history since '79. Wonder why you guys always start the time frame at that point instead of going back 66 years to what really cause the conflict.

Here, this should help you understand how the conflict really started.

    1953 Iranian coup d'état - Wikipedia

Yes, I think that he almost brought the whole middle east to an explosive conflict with the assassination of an Iranian general/statesman. Why do think that that Bush and Obama did not take him out? Did you know that a Mossad sniper had the General in the cross hairs of his rifle but did not pull the trigger? Same reason for all three. They were not corrupt, lawless ignorant people. If you do not, you need to read more.

    Thanks for the advise though.

Ah .... because that's when the mullahs overthrew their government and became a terrorist state in contemporary history. Before this, they were actually quite western ... not necessarily friendly, but they didn't send suicide bombers on jihad.

Why do you think the strife began in '53? These folks have been warring with the Hebrews for millennia. Another overlooked fact is the redrawn borders by "Hail Britannia" after WWII.

I've no doubt Mossad has passed on many many assassinations. That doesn't support your thesis.

Evidently Suleimani directed the attack on the US Embassy in Iraq. Unlike the previous administration's failure to recognize ... attacking a US Embassy is an act of war. Murdering Joe Q Public is bad and is clearly subject to the law... murdering a cop because he's a cop ... well. That can't be tolerated either.

You'd have a valid point if it can be demonstrated/proven Suleimani was not involved in that Embassy attack.

Trump was doing his job. If you want to believe the conflict is his fault, then that's what you believe. Clearly in the last 48 hours, our restraint, Trump's restraint, has demonstrated your estimation to be a gross error ... not unlike your gross error of popping off about the US Navy bagging the Ukrainian Airline 737 which took-off from Tehran.

I'm sorry you're having such personal difficulty with Trump's being president and particularly with his incredible restraint.

... now ... you have a valid concern about the ME "explosion" ... that's STILL about to happen, and it would regardless of Obama's having a 4th term. But anyhow. Carry on. That's where most democrats are at their best.

Yessir ... 1988, July IIRC. A gross error which was adjudicated. Unlike many errors of Iran and even our previous administration (well, yet ... let Pelosi flail a bit longer, then apparently a good run at justice for almost precisely that for which Trump was impeached ... but not confirmed by the senate)

now what Captain do you reference? The USN ship Captain in 1988 ... or the Captain of the Ukrainian Airliner? If the former ... irrelevant to your statement. If the latter ... well, also irrelevant. The aircraft was NOT within detection distance of a US Navy vessel, let alone an engagement zone.

You messed-up with your characterization of the US Military ... if it was supposed to be funny, it wasn't. Not to me on multiple facets.

Maybe someone on the ground thought it was the Great Satan coming for them so they shot it down from the ground near the airport?

Here are pics of MH17, the plane brought down over Ukraine in 2014 (just another odd coincidence?)

fact is ... airplanes don't just explode mid air.

yeah, there's a lot of Jet A fuel, but structural failures are not at all common, particularly on 3 year old airliners.

There is no doubt this aircraft was engaged by an anti-aircraft Surface-Air-Missile ... fired by the Iranians ... who were expecting US Air Power response to their surface-surface missile attacks.

    This from the Israeli think tank article is interesting and good news;
" The killing proves beyond doubt that the Iranian security system is riddled with informants. They knew when Soleimani left his secret hideout in Damascus, what plane he boarded, at which airport he was going to land, which vehicles he and his retinue entered upon landing, and exactly what time those vehicles were heading out of the airport. This suggests an information flow involving tens if not hundreds of informants closely connected to the upper echelons of the Quds Force. These informants could and did provide this information to their American counterparts in real time to get the US helicopters in position for the kill"

I like to think they are all looking at each other wondering who the moles are and who they can trust.
