So would it be violation AFTER the game is over? If they're not going to play again in college? Although less than an hour AFTER the game, they're not being given monetary benefits to play......sounds legal speak-ish but will be interesting to see what the NCAA says about it....

If all of the money was handed out was after the game, and only to players who are not coming back, the players are in the clear (I am assuming the payments are permitted under the Napoleonic Code).

HOWEVER (and it is a big However), the school, the coaches and the $EC are going to get grilled about it as the NCAA cannot sweep it under the rug because the whole world witnessed the payoff.

The video shows Justin Jefferson getting paid, he is the first guy and is likely going to declare for the NFL Draft. The second guy getting paid is Ja'Marr Chase, a sophomore who cannot declare for the NFL Draft. I didn't see anyone else getting paid in the video, but obviously others did because Joe Burrow got paid.

NCAA does not care, it's SEC and they are the cash cow that threatened to leave the NCAA. My guess is some announcement will be made that all the money was given to kids who are not coming back and thus not a violation. Rest will be swept under the rug.

The NCAA is a governing body for the weak not the powerful.

I'm shocked something like this is happening in SEC country.

Well, let's be honest.....assuming EVERYONE is paying the players in some form or fashion and Texas gets away with it because our lawyers are better than yours, etc. (I really don't want a debate on how much Texas does or doesn't do it, etc), we could just say that OBJ was at the NCG and as a "fun thing", gave players money to say "bro, here's a taste for some of that NFL dough you'll be getting soon" and leave it at that.... I mean, they get the scholarship and the training and the food and the girls etc etc given to them but they're (supposedly) not getting paid for it in cash.... so when it's time to celebrate, maybe "we" could cut some slack.....

If it occurred, then I suspect their championship would be vacated. Assumes he paid them for winning, not losing.

Every high school kid in the country saw OBJ give that money to those guys, and now they have it in their minds and expect it to happen to them. That one act did more for LSU recruiting than the national title.

If the NCAA was a real, intentioned governing body who cared about the integrity of the sport, they would have immediately issued a press release and had a team of people looking into this, addressing media with intentions and updating on findings.

The best way to handle this would be for other teams to purposely and blatantly try the same thing to "call the NCAAs bluff" and highlight the selectivity of their "concern" for the sport

How does the new ruling of pay for play affect this act? Odom can just say he was ahead of the ruling

The NCAA is a bluff. No subpoena power. They hire private investigators to do their work.

Why is it that half the football fans know who is cheating, how, and when, but the NCAA doesn’t know anything.

If you ever have the opportunity to “host” one of those cretins in your office, enjoy. It’s more fun than a week at DisneyWorld.

Here's an absolutely ridiculous article that misses entirely and proves my overarching point about how some kind of relativist view of rules, law, right, wrong etc leads us to gray areas that quickly turn black, lack of direction and conscience, and, generally, confusion and chaos.
Nobody even knows what they should think about this....The "journalist" sounds like a confused, post-modern new-ager with nothing to guide.
I know what to think...at least unless some new revelation changes things:
It is wrong and punishment should be handed down. If it isnt wrong, then they've really opened the door for more and deserve whatever they get in the future.
    Seems clear to me....

Highlighted in the article is the fact that OBJ also told the school he'd like to give some other gifts to the players, including Beats headphones.

Let's be honest here. 100 dollar hand shakes go on everywhere and have always been part of every football program. It even happens at Texas as was the case when Colt shushed his GF/wife about the exact same matter. We are all part of the Hypocrisy. I had two guys I worked with that played football at La Tech. They told me all about going to alumni parties after games just to get their 100 dollar hand shakes.

The big difference is that OBJ did it on national TV flaunting it in front of every school in the nation. There are schools on probation looking at this and saying why are we being punished and they do it openly and get nothing. If the NCAA does nothing, they cut their throat, if they act, the drive another wedge between themselves and the SEC who has already threatened to leave the NCAA.

I'm willing to bet that a new report is going to come out that OBJ knew in advance who was leaving early for the draft and only gave them money. He told Jefferson that "I told you I would take care of you". This indicates a premeditation to do exactly what he did. Last time I checked, fake money is not taking care of them.

There is a reason the OU players don't wear their helmets walking to and from Owen Field; thus the name "Million Dollar Walk"

Acho now trying to backtrack. Agree it's stupid of OBJ to do it in front of a national audience but also stupid for EA to bring up something from 10 years ago that didn't need to be popped on a national ESPN show. Understand he is trying to make his own fame and name.

Good post, bit it apparently wasnt fake money and it wasnt just given to those who were graduating...
And my biggest problem w it is just the blatant nature. It isn't equivalent to something done behind the scenes, because it was soo blatant. By nature, it means if there is no response then I guess we can do whatever we want and push it even further. JMHO
