Do they ever fire college coaches midseason?

Man, this team is painfully bad.

If this clown ever becomes a "coach", I'll be glad to discuss it with you.

I've watched UT basketball coached by Abe Lemons, Bob Weltlich, Tom Penders, Rick Barnes, and now Shaka Smart.

I just got back from the Drum tonight. That had to be the most painful game I've ever witnessed. Not even the stupid ritual scream of "Who wants a T-shirt?!?!" gets this crowd to make even a hint of noise. Can you blame them? What is being put on the basketball floor doesn't even come close to what Coach Barnes did in seasons past. Our offense shows no signs of anything structured. What exactly is our game plan? I witnessed 3 people on the jumbotron yawning when their mug was put on the screen. And fans were actually screaming "Stop shooting 3's!!!!" to our team after it was clear we were not going to make many after going 5 of 24. We finished 8 of 29 from 3-pt range. And we took a total of 7 free throw attempts for the game. Wow. Just incredibly sad what has happened to that once fun place to watch some decent college basketball.

I go back even further, to the dark days of Leon Black (get it" dark days/Black). Anyway, the current product has to rank up there with the worst of Black and Weltlich. Neither of them had anywhere near the talent Shaka has recruited and squandered.

This is an outrage! Firing Rick Barnes was like firing Mack Brown! Oh wait....maybe a little different.... Remember, we don't really care about basketball...

The firings weren't the problems. The problems come in not hiring upgrades.

How many years does Shaka have left on his contract?

Man! That sucks. What was that based on? Making the big dance once and winning the NIT? Texas needs a coach that consistently wins the conference championship and makes the elite 8 more than once or twice per century.

If we have to pay him, this is the solution I proposed to Deloss for Mackovic:

Here is your office, complete with desk, chair and telephone. You have no secretary. Your hours are 8 to 5, Monday through Friday with an hour for lunch. Your contract calls for a car, your Prius will be delivered tomorrow. You should contact the University police department about parking arrangements. No expense account, no cell phone. No, we will not pay for a mural in your office like Earl got.

Any media interviews must be approved by this office.

    Enjoy your cubical.

I had to Google. I am shocked to know the Prius first came about in '97.

How did the rest of the story turn out?

He laughed but liked the idea, yet refused to do it. I knew Mackovic’s ego couldn’t stand being reduced like that and he would cave in and leave.

While I think Smart is a horrible coach, and I know Billie Powers was clueless, I really don’t dislike him nearly as much as that arrogant son of a *****.

You should have thrown in there that Mackovic could be the new Longhorn wine critic and sommelier.

Would you drink anything that ******* recommended? My 11 year old grandson knows more about wine than Mackovic.

I heard he had an affinity for wine. Whether he knows good wine or not is beyond me.

I've posted before when we got our *** kicked by UVA, I went into McCue Center that morning to visit my friend Rick Lantz. Rick handed me tickets and said, "50 yardline behind the Texas bench because I want you to have a really good view of the *** kicking coming your way".

Mackovic would abandon his team when things didn't go his way. He did the same thing when we lost to Rice in Houston. You see, it could never be his fault. He grabbed his clipboard and paced between the bench and the seats. I was cold, wet, and miserable, not to mention embarrassed by my good friend destroying my offense.

I stood up and yelled (add sarcastic Buffy voice), "O John, say John, what Chardonnay goes with a blowout". He tried to have security remove me, but the policeman told him he needed to pay more attention to his team and losing than the fans. Saw Mackovic in locker room after the game. He was less than thrilled that I got in.

Shakas buyout drops to $6M after this season. My guess is someone pony’s up to get him out when we miss the real tournament again.

Shaka is doing his best to make a case for this to happen as the Horns are down 35-15 with just under 4 minutes left in first half. Not watching, but 15 freakin points.
