I'm not rooting against USC but man these links have been pure entertainment gold. We've been screwed up for a decade but at least we aren't USC screwed up.

Actually, the downhill slide started on 15 December 2000 when USC hired Pete "I don't want to know, but the good players have to be compensated and the NCAA is too stupid to figure out what is going on" Carroll. Which led to Pat Hayden's absentee AD tenure. Which led to Reggie Bush and his San Diego house and Range Rover. Which led to the greatest team of all time 2004 and 2005 until they net their match on the field. This ultimately led to the crumbling of the house and loss of Bush's Heisman (which was awarded based on his performance against Fresno State). This led to the hiring of Lynn Swan as AD and the rest is history.

To any who think USC isn't loaded when it comes to raw talent, see below. They had excellent recruiting--generally by-far the best on the West Coast until 2020. This is USC's pre-2020 recruiting classes data from Rivals. They have stacked up great raw talent. Now, in the 2020 class, they're in a dumpster that's on fire and has been pushed off a cliff.

    USC recruiting pre-2020 classes:

    2019 Ranked 18th. 10 - 4 star recruits
    2018 Ranked 3rd. 5 - 5 star recruits; 13 4-star recruits
    2017 Ranked 6th. 17 - 4 star recruits
    2016 Ranked 10th. 2 - 5 star recruits. 11 4 star recruits.
    2015 Ranked 1st. 4 - 5 star recruits. 16 4 star recruits.

With redshirts, the 2015 class will be gone. Even so, if you combine 5-star and 4-star recruits and call them "blue chips", with redshirting USC would have: 58 blue chip recruits on the roster from classes 2016 through 2019. (it's probably a bit less since some don't redshirt, transfer, quit, get drafted early, etc.). Dang, the Trojans were almost recruiting on Jimbo's level. :rolleyes1:

Good coaching could rapidly make them a major force in the college football world again. I see a lot of us (where we were pre-Herman) in this tale.

I guess it's no longer possible to have your own private Idaho anymore...

It's also hard to build a program when your mascot is the Vandals and you play a crap schedule. Note, Washington State is only around 50 miles from the U. of Idaho, so a (pretty) decent program can be built in that neck of the woods.

No, they are flooding in as retirees, as it is so cheap in comparison to CA and, dare I mention, lily white. No one from Compton is moving there.

Hot summers and bleak winters surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers, when one can get to them. What is not to like?

Well, better than TTU, that is for sure.

Does Bru count twice or thrice between USC and Texas? Kind of like the vacated 2006 Rose Bowl loss, I guess.

I see USC as a talent-laden team that squanders their (often massive) talent advantage--usually due to poor coaching. Not to get down on our recent past, but yeah I see a lot of us in the late-Brown and Charlie era in today's USC team.

Idahoans are pretty nice, but up in the woods is a stronghold of White Aryan Nation types. Ted Kaczynski was holed up there.

This "coaching rumor" thread is trending toward 'west mall", where most posters can't spell 'coach'.

Tech had a tough time beating out the prestige and $$$$$ of USC in the battle for a coach.

That sounds accurate for most people. Strangely enough, if I had to choose L.A. or Lubbock as a place to live and raise my family, I'd choose Lubbock.

    1/22

Baylor -- Dennis Johnson (LSU analyst--former DL and LB coach) will move to Waco with Aranda to be an analyst and possibly a position coach.

Hawaii -- Todd Graham (former HC at Rice, Tulsa, Pitt and ASU, and originally HC at Mesquite Poteet HS) takes over as the Bows' new head coach. Not a bad hire. They could have done a lot worse.

Washington State -- incoming head coach Nick Rolovich (Hawaii HC) brings in some of his crew from the Islands, including Brian Smith (OC), Ricky Logo (DL), and Craig Stutzman (QBs).
