I don't think they care about San Marcos, UTEP, etc. This is most likely about TCU and UNT. "They aren't in Dallas. We are. They're in Ft Worth and Denton." Maybe against UH it works.

I love going to Ft Worth. It's like going to old Austin minus Whole Earth Provision and little Whole Foods. But for recruiting, I imagine 18yos prefer Dallas to Ft Worth and Denton. That's probably true for local corporate support as well.

Hate to break it to the Dallas U. partisans, but Dallas U. is not in Dallas either...

I think the guy in the Dallas polo shirt below must be the pimp. He had to preppy up his wardrobe and drop all the gold chains when he moved his operation from Dallas to the Park Cities.

Of course, Austin College isn't in Austin.
    Boston College isn't in Boston.
The University of Miami isn't in Miami.
And Dallas U. (f/k/a SMU) isn't in Dallas.

SMU has a Dallas USPS address. Highland/University Park agreed to it a while back. I think it's probably census stuff.

Also, the University of Dallas, a small Catholic school, is actually in Irving across from the old Texas Stadium site, and the University of Texas at Dallas is in Richardson.

The only real Dallas U's are the University of North Texas - Dallas, home of the Trailblazers, and Paul Quinn College, a historicly black Methodist school are actually in the Dallas City Limits.

I believe it has always been that way. When the Zip Codes came out those Zip Codes starting with 752 were the converted Dallas postal codes. Farmers Branch has the same issue - not a part of the City of Dallas but has a Dallas Zip Code.

DBU is in Dallas. For now at least, it’s not in Austin (or in Baton Rogue). I hear it may be in Austin in a year or two.

Interesting. Kind of like the City of West University Place and the City of Bellaire being municipalities practically surrounded by the City of Houston. (Bellaire and West U are right next to each other, and both are surrounded by 3 sides by Houston.)

West U is probably a great comparison - both were formed long ago for the sake of creating a bubble for the local University and surrounding community. I don't think anyone believes UofH or Rice are not part of Houston.
To add to the SMU part, addresses in the area can be designated either 'University Park, Texas' or 'Dallas, Texas.' It's more like a local Dallas neighborhood with special governing rules than anything.

Not sure why anyone would go out of their way to associate themselves with Dallas. I mean it’s ok if you have to live there, lots of people have to, but it’s nothing to go bragging about.

Dallas debuts at #24 in the new AP poll. They are now officially recognized as the second best college football team in Texas. That fact might even cause some consternation among certain lowlier college football fan bases in Texas, who knows...

    Great job Shane and crew.

I know we all have this fun city rivalry in Texas so I'll say Dallas is rated as the 2nd best city in Texas to live in after Austin. 21st in the US. It's ahead of Houston and San Antonio.

As it relates to recruiting, for sure Dallas and Houston should sell their advantages over Ft Worth, Denton, Waco, Lubbock, etc.

Personally I'd rather live in San Antonio or Ft. Worth than Dallas.

I love San Antonio. I spend about 10 work days there every month. Ft Worth is great too. I also like Abilene.

But as this thread was about Dallas, and people feigning ignorance as to why SMU would want to brand themselves to Dallas, I was making the obvious points.

Zipcodes do not have to conform to city limits. Rather they conform to post office locations.

Yea SMU is a Dallas school. Would love to see them play and beat Aggie. Maybe in a bowl game? Aggie would have to upset someone for that to happen. They are likely 6-6 this year.

I think they are doing this wrong, they should embrace the past instead of running away and pretending it never happened

I'm kinda hoping SMU/"Dallas" can keep their winning run going even after Shane leaves. They get one more year of Shane. After that, here's what their QB room looks like (below). They also have a class of 2021 commitment from 4* QB Preston Stone, who attends an elite private Episcopal school in North Dallas. (kid has SMU written all over him...) Their coaching is solid, and they may be pretty good for the foreseeable future. Memphis just lost their coach (Mike Norvell) to FSU, and Navy will lose their star QB (Malcolm Perry), so SMU could be the top dog in their conference.

    7 Shane Buechele QB 6-1 207 JR-GT Arlington, Texas / Texas / Lamar HS
    9 William Brown QB 6-3 220 SO-1L Rosenberg, Texas / Lamar Consolidated
    10 Terrance Gipson QB 6-0 193 FR-HS Houston, Texas / Westfield
    12 Derek Green QB 6-3 205 FR-RS Leawood, Kan. / Rockhurst
    18 Jacob Oehrlein QB 6-1 215 FR-RS Brenham, Texas / Brenham

Of course, it's a great underdog story. Back from death. Might be a movie about it some day.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

If SMU football continues the winning ways, at some point I suspect they will lobby for an invitation to the Big XII.
