Frankly it will take a small miracle for Texas to even stay close with Baylor. Just for the heck of it, according to HoopGurlz: Higgs (2015): #7 Holmes (2016): #2 Sutton (2016): #6 Underwood (2016): unranked Collier (2018): #2 Allen-Taylor (2018): #56 Warren (2018): unranked C. Taylor (2019): #40 Baylor: Cooper (2015): #12 DeGrate (2015): #98 Cox (2016): #1 Landrum (2016): #18 Richards (2017): #19 Ursin (2017): #64 Egbo (2018): #7 Smith (2018): #13 Bickle (2018): #29 J. Oliver (2019): #12
Saw them play a couple of times. They looked like a high school team. Didn't we start Jamie Carey, Kala Bowers, Heather Schreiber, and Stacy Stephens when we made the Final Four?
The announcers kept saying, "and with no point guard". Is it because of injuries and/or the many transfers the last couple of years? BTW, when I say many transfers, if you flip the mirror - that could be a description of us the last couple of years.
I believe Lemon was gonna be their PG this year but left the team, and Veitemheimer just isn’t good enough for B12 competition.
While they have more ranked players, we have the ability to start (and should be starting) four top ten recruits and arguably the best freshman in the conference. They have a bit more depth, but our first seven or eight players theoretically SHOULD be developed enough to take on pretty much anyone in the country. We know that's not the case though.
Transferring after the season started? Yeah, sounds familiar to us! Kamryn Lemon has left Oklahoma women's basketball team
That’s just not true. Listen there is no arguing that Baylor has had tremendous success compared to us and in the last five games we have only beaten them once (in Waco). But in Austin the last three seasons we have played them within 6 points twice and 3 points once. Full disclosure - they have absolutely trashed us in Waco the last two years. I want to beat Baylor as bad as the next guy and a loss is a loss, but “barely sniffed them” is not an accurate statement. We have been and continue to be competitive, but sadly just not victorious.
Except we have been sniffing. Sadly we just haven’t bitten. And the quote refers to this current group. This group has been 1-5 and the games in Austin have been on average 5 point (two possession) games. Not arguing we have lost. Just pointing out we have most certainly been sniffing. that said, I hate sniffing a bear’s ***
I hear you and don't totally disagree. BUT....with the talent we have, we should be doing more than "sniffing" IMHO......
I think to get all wrapped up into measuring this team by whether they can beat the Sea Hag or not is a fool's errand (it's highly unlikely). Look at the fact that they have won 5 in a row and look at all of the conference road games that they have won. That is what I find most encouraging about this team. Clearly OU is a shell of what they have been for much of the last two decades, but watching that game last night was like, well frankly a little like watching some of Jody's teams in the late 1980's (transition basketball anyone?). Better at every position, better prepared, better coached. A loss to Baylor will be one loss. Counts the same as the one loss to TCU. Knocking off a second number one team would be great, (doing it in March in OKC would be even better!), but enjoy where this team is today versus where they were three weeks ago. Kudos to KA and this ball club for taking a huge step forward since that horrible night against the Toads. Hook Em!
Back to OU for a second, if anyone wants to answer --- didn't Veitenheimer start, or at least play a lot last year? That is why I was so surprised not to see her at all. Thought maybe she was hurt or in Sheri's doghouse.
Yeah I just pray this team comes out with the same mentality they had agaisnt Stanford. If charli collier and Holmes come out aggressively then the rest will fall into place so everyone keep there fingers crossed!
