Well we can certainly debate the importance or lack therof of women’s college athletics, but basketball is definitely its most high profile sport. And behind the bench and courtside at each of our games I can spot a few multi-million dollar donors to the university so I would have to disagree that the pressure isn't there. The games are frequently televised for a national audience and Texas has certain expectations for its brand that aren’t currently being met by this program. I would be more surprised if her contract is renewed. That said, I am totally in the dark about what might actually be in the works one way or the other.

As we are all in the dark. It really comes down to this. If he keeps Aston. he is perfectly fine with mediocrity, which would most definitely contradict his statements about what he expects. If her contract is not extended or renewed, we will know he actually means business, is serious, and meant what he said when he was initially hired!!!! It's really that simple....

I so wanted to believe in Karen. I have traveled a long way to attend home games since 1996, but IMHO it was apparent quite a while back that it wasn't going to happen with her at the helm. She has had the talent to get it done!!!!! There are no excuses!!!!! I continue to support them 100% every game, but have learned the hard way to temper my expectations.

I said it, too, and I stick by it. We've had the same recruiting success (a few years ago MORE recruiting success) as Baylor. We have run half of the big recruits off, and haven't developed what we've been able to keep.

Yes...and gets JERKED out of the game when she makes a mistake, just as she has her entire collegiate career under KA.

And there will be pressure to fill a new arena with fans passionate to watch winning basketball.
    Mediocrity won’t cut it.

Now that Ron Thulin has brought Joyner Holmes' false eyelashes ("the longest in the Big 12") into the public sphere, is there no one who can ask her to go without? It might improve her shooting. :smile1:

I don’t see it. The only program where there is actual pressure is football because they pay the bills for all the other non revenue sports in the athletic department men’s and women’s.

Our posts haven't been taught how to use the backboard since Jody left, and apparently Karen it telling them to just throw it up towards the rim and hope it goes in.

I have a general question about renewing a coach's contract. I've been under the impression that contracts are usually renewed well before the end of the season in which it expires, because otherwise you're sending signals of uncertainty which can be detrimental to recruiting. In other words, if the AD was intending to renew Karen's contract, wouldn't he have done so already? Why would he be waiting until the end of the season like this?

34.4 sec left in the third. You can see Kim yell at her in the slo mo replay but you can’t tell what she says and Warren didn’t even seem to notice. The refs reviewed it at the monitor and determined it was just a normal foul. Kim is trash. Plain and simple. I can’t think of another coach who would yell at a player not on their team. But she beats us and for some that is all that matters.

Came home from a trip, turned on the TV with 6 minutes left in the game ... to hear Ron Thulin say (paraphrasing here) ... "JH takes it herself and Baylor gets the rebound; she's 1 for 12 tonight." So I turned the TV off. I agree that a new coach would be helpful, but not necessarily an immediate answer - ask Tom Herman! KA may leave gracefully, as did Connie Clark, perhaps with the same apparent realization that the fun is gone from her chosen profession. What really, really concerns me is that we may become nationally irrelevant. WBB is popular - ESPN has expanded its coverage to all NCAA tournament games this year and it's not a surprise when a mid-major programs wins. The WNBA is increasing in popularity in its markets, and you know there will be Kobe tributes this year. Now is the time for Texas to become a top-10 ranked team every year, as we once were - and I hope CdC wants, at least to fill the new arena. The "legendary program" label is nice, but continues to recede. If we don't find a way to get local support and continued national buzz, we'll find ourselves just another program with a "storied past" but not much going on in the now. Rambling on, sorry. But I'm a fan and an alum and I care.

Yup, and if it was me it would be a John Chaney vs John Calipari situation. I don’t care how many times you beat me I’m not going to allow you to talk to or disrespect my players. If you have a problem with something one of my players did you should come talk to me and I’ll handle it. Great overall coach but no doubt she’s trash.

Did y'all see this postgrame presser? I haven't watched a ton of these, but I sense a certain mix of frustration and resignation with Karen that we don't normally see, even after other bad losses.

I didn’t see or hear anything different than what we usually see or hear from Karen after the annual Baylor loss. Same old didn’t reverse the ball etc.

Whoever does the schedule were not kind to the Longhorns- the second week back to school with three games in 7 days, two of them away out of state games and the third against the #2 ranked team in the nation, followed by 9 days off? Crazy.

Kim can seem nice and sometimes funny in interviews. But you don't have to dig down far for the bad sport to come out. She is so immature and unprofessional for a 60 whatever woman. I'm tempted to say Geno is also a bad sport, but it's different -- he badmouths and, IMHO, can really mistreat his own players, but I've never seen him go after another team's players or openly diss another coach. You can't say that about Kim. She'll badmouth anyone, e.g., our very own KA.

Geno does not mistreat his players. Please do not equate criticism with mistreatment. I seriously doubt you would ever see loyalty like you see from Geno's former players if he were in the habit of mistreating them.

I couldn't tell what she said to audrey warren but when the ref came over she said something about audrey then said "she is known for that type of stuff" very very disgusting

How did you hear that? I’ve got pretty good audio on my TV, and I couldn’t hear anything but the cheerleaders. Were you sitting at the scorer’s table?

I’m not trying to be a pain. I just don’t hear it on the replay.

Yes, HnH, a lot of Geno's players love him and express gratitude for him being so demanding, but others have indeed been mistreated, at least by my value system. The thing I find out of line is how he publicly disses some of his players. Do you remember the mean things he said about the player who transferred to Mississippi State when he was in the process of running her off last year? (Can't remember her name.) Most stick with him, but some others have left (even before leaving became a fad). Constructive criticism is one thing, but mean criticism to the media is something else. Charde Huston is another he always said pretty mean things about, but she stuck it out. Of course, I'm in no position to know what their day-to-day relationship was like.

Again, as others have said, his players love him. I've not heard one real criticism of him by any of his former players, and certainly not a hint of mistreatment. I'm sure there are a few who weren't particular fond of him,, as there are with any program, but the general consensus by his former players, is one of respect, appreciation and love.

Coaches' behaviors or not, we got our butts kicked and we looked like PURE CRAP on the offensive end of the floor. Additionally, I don't even think Baylor played all that well... and certainly not their best.

No, we didn't reverse the ball because our method of doing so is standing around, dependent of dribbling around the perimeter passing or handing off the ball. Defensively all BU had to do was overplay us outside to make that so difficult.

We need some MOTION in our offense, but we've never had it and apparently never will under the current "system." We had THREE assists the entire game, yes THREE... count them. That is #&$+! pathetic!

It’s just baffling how everyone else can see that the offense is hot garbage but apparently she can’t. She’s failed her players by not trying to improve offensively. She doesn’t have to be Geno in terms of offensive X’s and O’s just give your players a damn chance.

You can't hear it but I read her lips. My grandmother cannot talk and I read her lips to understand what she is saying so I have become really great at reading lips over the years. I watched the replay and slowed down the video about 5 times to make sure I really understood what she said.

Yes @kurupt she has failed these players terribly. There are FOUR Top 10 recruits on our roster and another McD's AA as well. Additionally, Underwood was once Top 50 before missing the AAU circuit the summer between Junior and senior years with ACL, but did bounce back to be the DFW area's leading rebounder and one of the top scorers. Then there's Allen-Taylor who chose us over Notre Dame, Baylor, Mississippi State, and South Carolina. Palmer and Warren are very capable players as well. That's NINE very capable players.

Those players didn't become highly regarded by not being able to score. After watching Texas and our inability to score in half court sets... and consequently our struggles over the past several years to defeat (and lose to) teams FAR LESS talented... why in the world would top recruits want to come play for us? Looking at next year's class, the answer is they no longer want to. They've been paying attention.

CDC better do something or else we'll be looking like OU, scratching and clawing to try and maintain middle of the pack status in the conference. TCU and especially Tech are on the rise and that's real stuff! There's some hella coaching going on in Fort Worth and Lubbock. Imagine if they'd had the raw talent we've had over the past five years.
