the legend of Pistol Pete Maravich was born as he surpasses The Big O's career scoring mark.........incredible ball handler and scorer. No telling what his totals would be if there had been a 3 pt shot in his day, I doubt his 3 yr scoring marks will ever be eclipsed......43.8 soph, 44.2 junior and 44.5 senior....44.2 career. Rabalais: Remembering 'Pistol' Pete Maravich and the 50th anniversary of his brilliance
Back in the mid 60s, hardly anyone attended Texas basketball games in Gregory Gym. I had the pleasure of attending a game (probably a dollar or less) in I think 1966 when LSU came to town. Neither team was really good, but what was good was halftime. Since there was no halftime entertainment, Coach Maravich sent his son (not yet a member of LSU varsity) to "perform". Pete put on a ball handling, dribbling exhibition that would embarrass Curly Neal or Meadowlark. A great memory of a great player and great human being.
I was there, too, Sabre. What an amazing show he put on. He had an amazing career. Just imagine what he could have done with the 3-point shot. Died at 40 playing pickup basketball in Pasadena, CA :-(
