paraphrasing Ann Coulter; The Dems should quit whining and count their blessings. Usually when a coup is thwarted the losers are executed.

probably not wrong ... but it saved a LOT of expensive time to arrive at the same ruling.

Romney's bolter isn't just a bolter. He's bucking for something down the road. Standby for a party change and late POTUS entry.

Right, I doubt anyone believes he did this because he thinks Trump should really be removed.

So funny to see the same people who excoriated him in 2012 now hailing him as such a hero. Laughable. Same people who will now believe Bolton if he says Trump was doing the Dems claim.

Romney’s just a petulant child, is still butthurt he lost in 2012 and President Trump said mean things about him. He’s toast.

Unless Mitt makes some move that I didn't expect, I expect that he's going to ride off into the sunset as a Utah Senator whenever the voters there kick him out. I listened to a neat discussion about him. He had discussed this being a decision of his to protect the constitution and that he knew that he was going to pay a daily price for this going forward. He also discussed how he regrets some of his squishiness in the past. He said it was often easy to rework how you felt on a particular issue when it was easier to feel that way.

Not sure I fully comprehend that last sentence Bub but I do have a contrary take from most on here regarding Mitts decision. I do not agree with him but I will not degrade him on his beliefs nor that he is sincere in his feelings. The two sides on this whole thing were too convincing depending on your own predisposition. What I do not understand is why couldn’t he (a Senator and all) call Bolton and have a private lunch to satisfy his consternation. I know, I know, I’m naive on this but I do not understand why people can’t just use some common sense and basic human courtesy. As I’ve said before, they all make me sick - both parties.

I think he's got a history of "flip flopping". I think that was one of his regrets, looking over his past public life. It was easier to flip flop on an issue when the flipping made your life easier - you know, path of least resistance.

Definitely understand the “path of least resistance”, been guilty of that often myself.

I doubt he does either of those things. I just think hes a self-righteous *******. That's pretty much why he lost the 2012 election. His 47% comment and Bain Capital history killed him. Voters just didn't like him.

Did you vote for him in 2012 when you had the opportunity?

No. I voted for Obama. However, I'd vote for most West Mall participants before I'd vote for Trump. I like Mitt, I just don't love him.

It's possible I'd vote for him too as a Democrat. But he's a Mormon. What was his position on gay marriage and abortion. I don't recall...

I just looked it up. Wikipedia has lots of quotes over the years. Concerning abortion, some seem to indicate Roe v Wade is established law. Others indicate states rights are important. Some indicate he wants to tighten up laws to protect lives. Probably lots of political posturing. I didn't read that he wanted to ban it but he did make a comment about banning except in cases of woman's life at risk, rape and incest. So not sure where he is...

As for gay marriage, here is a Wikipedia reference:

"In 2012, Romney reiterated his opposition to same-sex marriage and civil unions, but also said that "[his] view is the domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights, and the like are appropriate but that the others are not."[396] Also in 2012, in an interview with a reporter from Colorado, Romney stated that he believes that marriage is a "state issue" and that he is not running on that issue.[397][398] During the campaign, Romney received a 100% from the National Organization for Marriage but only received an 11% from Save California which both oppose same-sex marriage."

It doesn't matter. He will "evolve" on his positions in order to be accepted by the Dems, just like Al Gore did.

The Republican party gave us two RINOs for President back to back in 2008 and 2012, McCain and Romney. When Obama won, I was as fearful as most Dems were when Trump won in 2016. Now, I wonder if Obama was any worse than McCain or Romney would have been (besides Obama's selecting two SC judges not so much on their qualifications, but mostly for diversity: Sotomayor and Kagan).

If McCain or Romney would have won, it might have put the GOP in the same malaise and breakdown that the Dems are currently experiencing. The failures of McCain and Romney are partially responsible for the rise of Trump.

I didn’t vote for either of them but I looked it up and Mitt got 47.2 of the popular vote in 2012 and President Bone Spur got 46.1 per cent in 2016

mitt lost the popular vote by 5 mil and Orange Jesus only lost by 3 mil

obama got 51.1 and Lady MacBeth got 48.2.

I didn’t vote for either of them either
