XFL Football...Who's Going to Watch?

Houston has a good team. Their D tore the LA offense up.

 

Dallas Renegades?

Hey, I'm not real excited about this league or game. But my oldest adult son bought tickets for the two of us Sunday and I am pleased to spend time with him, regardless of the game.

Of course, I will have an adult beverage and with my trusty game binoculars report back to this very board about the hotness of the Renegade Cheerleaders!!!

 

I believe the O/U was posted on the scoreboard at bottom center of screen.

 

It was. On one of the games, it was 51.5.

 

thought Landry Jones from ousux fame was starting qb for Dallas?? they touted him on their advertisements, "former Pittsburgh Steeler..." Nelson has played for Dallas from what I've seen

 

Landry Jones is the face of the XFL. Does he want to be?

 

He was injured during one of the first practices.

 

Good to see that Big Game Bob hasn't lost his touch in retirement!! Dallas loses to St Louis 15-9 (Dallas was -9.5)

 

I saw him on camera at one point. He's out this week because of an injury I believe was the issue.

 

More impressed than I thought I would be with the overall game experience.

The play was what I told my son after the game: professional but kind of NFL Lite. The enthusiastic crowd was announced at 17,000 + but it seemed greater than that.

Not having seen QB Landry Jones play at this level, not sure how much better Dallas would have played on O today.Renegades moved the ball fairly well by air but had trouble establishing the run game. Jerrod Heard had a few catches.

Cheerleaders?

2 Male and 2 Female team staff, casually dressed in team colors, holding signs to encourage the fans.... hot cheerleaders probably not a high priority first season for the new XFL.

Best part was quality time with my son.

 

Games definitely don't GET much bigger than the first in franchise history...

 

Minor league football just doesn't appeal to me. Between HS, college and the NFL Im pretty full. And the layoff provides for anticipation. Im all in for EPL, Champions League, NBA and baseball coming up.

 

To each his own, buddy. I quit watching the NBA and MLB, years ago. Still watch some college basketball and baseball, but usually just the conference tournaments and the Big Dance and the CWS. I'll check out the World Series if there is a game 7. But that's it. So, now with the XFL, and the CFL, College Football and the NFL, football is practically year round.

 

At least two of the XFL's rules (the KO and points after TD) will eventually find their way into the NFL. The push for the KO change will come from the medical and player sides. Unless the NFL moves the extra point (kicking) to 45-50 yards, the kickers will adjust, so just do away with it since it really isn't a football play. The staggered points after TD used by the XFL changes strategy which can be a good thing.

What will be interesting will be the lengths the NFL will go to downplay (if not ignore) the XFL's contribution to these changes.

 

I watch very little NFL, but for some reason this was cool. I may watch XFL more than NFL.

 

Well anyone who works in football will agree with you. This is like the D League or J League I think now. Unless you're a scout or in the game eh, but I get what you're saying.

 

I watched about 2 hours of XFL over the weekend, and loved it. Things I enjoyed, in no particular order:

(1) Kickoffs and conversions. As discussed above.

(2) Faster pace of play. Shorter play clocks are made possible by 6 players on both sides of the ball having speakers in their helmets. I'd like to see them go further -- make it 11 and shorten the play clock even more.

(3) Cameras everywhere -- even on the field. This will become an issue when one of them interferes with a play, but until then I love it.

(4) Transparent replay review. The delays were much more tolerable because you got to listen in as the referee and replay official talk through what the ruling was on the field, what the film shows, and what the correct result should be. No more listening to the talking heads in the booth blabber on incomprehensibly.

(5) Live sideline interviews. Hearing from the QB, coach, etc. immediately after a big play is cool.

(6) End-game clock rules. In the last 2 minutes (or is it 5???), the clock stops after every play, and doesn't start again until 5 seconds after the ball is set. This makes a super-high-octane offense more possible than ever.

(7) Only two timeouts per team (per half?). Enough said.

All told, I can't think of anything about the XFL rules that I liked less than the NFL rules. Every change was a positive one.

 

What, no electronic strike zone?

 

It was cool. Yeah there’s gonna be the give me punk rock or death crowd, but I liked it. I’ll watch again.

 

I was reading an article the other day about their contracts and found it interesting that they have written into them that players WILL stand for the National Anthem. That alone should help draw some eyeballs...

I've watched every XFL game so far and I have to say that the offensive line play in this league is awful. It'll probably get better the more they work together.

 

A lot of older HC's and OC's and no QB's.

 

So far, I like the new rules and the pace of play. As these guys play together longer, the offences' production and play should get better.

 

Channel surfing while the Daytona 500 is in rain delay. There is Reggie Smith as referee in an XFL game between Dallas and somebody. Does this mean that he is finally gone from the Big XII? Seriously, some defunct league helped the SWC get rid of Percy Penn and Bill Began. Can the XFL serve that same purpose? If so, that is cause for celebration. I might even buy season tickets to insure several if Anderson's cretins are gone.
